  1. If like me your missing Wimbledon, catch this on BBC iplayer. It was on this afternoon. A look back at the championship, back to Fred Perry.with clips of matches and interviews with players and Royalty. I sadly never seen a match there, but did the tour a few years back.Even empty Wimbledon has atmosphere, well worth a visit for tennis lovers.I first watch tennis with my mother back in the sixties. Often all day.
  2. Covad not cover.Thats the phone, even it don't take it seriously
  3. Even sticking to the rules I landed up with pneumonia, worrying They told me it may have been cover.Think I am right in taking care. Also there's talk about furlough and a suggestion that we don't want to return to work. There no doubt many would be happy to say at home and be paid but not all of us.
  4. I was going to steer clear of this post, because some think I'm over careful shielding.I will speak for my self. I've been shielding since March 23.I've stuck to the guildlines. In that time seen many break the rules right left and centre. Many many have total disregard for others.A mentally of I want to do something don't care about anyone.I like almost nine million I think, have been furloughed.I would love to return to work.Fact I can't return to work until at least 1 August. Guidelines from NHS/Government. From 6 July I can form a bubble of six outside. Still can't go to shops for example. I trying to recover from pneumonia and this week I've taken voluntary redundancy My season is finished.DONT tare us all with the same brush. Many of us want to return to work
  5. Happy birthday ,Doddie 50 today. For those that are not aware who he is.He played Rugby for Scotland a great player.Sadly he also has Motor Neuron Disese.A condition that he thought he wouldn't reach 50.He's often light hearted when you hear him speak. This is truly a nasty disease ,yet he never wants people to feel sorry for him, just a understanding. He fully understands the seriousness of this disease but to hear him he is full of hope and the charity he set up looking at help and support into this disease. Have a very happy birthday Doddie.
  6. Agree with Cockatoo, other spots Beccles and Oulton broad, and Loddon.Just readjust your ropes now and again.Just make sure you allow some slack. On more then one occasion had to help people get the swim deck off the bank, because they tied up to tight. Enjoy the south, just beware of the river monsters when you come some.
  7. Well on the boat always, regardless of weather. Waterproofs, spare jeans a few t-shirts and a wooly jumper .Any one that visits us,we always tell them to prepare for four seasons.
  8. According to BBC weather, for the next week low twenties sun and cloud no rain. Have a good time.
  9. Have a great time, as I said worth a few phone calls, local shops always good for local info.
  10. I've said before, but these people are the lowest of the low. Often they pick on the elderly. They just don't care what harm they do.
  11. Okay I get it.Your question there's not many play areas on the Yare.At one end Norwich should have some dotted around. The other end Yarmouth, some, many attractions will be opening from this weekend. As Paul said the ship at Reedham. Not sure what the pub is like not been there for a few years. As Jean said there are some very nice walks along the Yare.Try perhaps tourist information. It seems things are opening up each day.Boat yards may also have info, local shops good source too. Remind me when do you next hope to go?
  12. Over the years many takeaways drop there menus to moorings. The thing now the food business are trying to make up for lost time and money. Worth giving takeaways, restaurants and pubs a call.Believe me that want your business.
  13. Like it or not this virus has changed life touching every corner of our lives, perhaps for many years to come.It is the elephant in the room.It would be lovely just to talk about only the good in the world, but sadly thats not so just now People are concerned for now and more then likely for a considerable time to come.If those of us visit the river and a pub tomorrow .There will be limits as to what we can do.
  14. My guess and it is just a guess. Speak to broads authority and coast guard. I have VHF.
  15. Never remember if it was Winston Churchill or Harold Wilson who said a week in politics is a lifetime. Well this past week has seen many changes for me.This time last week I was in the middle of this chest infection, trying to get rid of it.Monday I decided to take voluntary redundancy, something I didn't want to do.By Tuesday I found out my section is no more,so perhaps the right thing to do still ,worrying mind.Despite suffering with this chest infection Marina and I finished the living and dinning room.Monday I was told my infection was very bad and if is slow to clear have another xray.So today I went for one. They thought it was to soon since the one last week. In the end they did. They told me there was a concern it was coved.Xray done thankfully the infection is going in the right direction but was surprised when they told me,it was pneumonia .So a odd week to say the least. Some photos of the house:Alan's bedroom ,our bedroom living and dining rooms
  16. Sweet kingfisher is ex hire.I don't give a monkeys what people think.Shes no oil painting but she's ours.If people want to be inverted snobs that's there problem. We enjoy the boat plain and simple.
  17. Any parcel that you didn't order report to the company that sent it and contact the Police, plus speak with action fraud. Use another phone. To be safe.
  18. Loads of ideas, often I have two meals ready. Cottage pie, just make mash on the boat.Chicken casserole. Just pop back in the oven.Stir fry, this can be a one pot,get ready made sauce from the supermarket. Serve with noodles. See my recipe for Spanish style Chicken. Some prep at home.Chicken katsu:Chicken fillet cut four slices, flour egg and crumb.Prep at home cook in the oven for 10/14 minutes just sprinkle a little oil.Serve with rice salad and curry sauce .look for a brand called good boy comes in block form lots like chocolate. I use two pieces add a little water and slowly bring to the boil, using a whisk.
  19. Dinner tonight. Bacon pudding new potatoes and veggies. Fine dice medium onion sweat in a little veg oil until soft. Six or seven rashers of smoked back bacon cut into strips about the size of little finger, add to onion cook for two minutes. Set aside. 6oz self raising flour,3oz suet a little salt.Mix together with a little cold water.Tip use a folk this will keep the mix cold not to wet or dry so add water little at a time.Dont over work the pastry otherwise it will be tough. Again some chefs overwork the mix.Oli a pudding basin.Roll out mix insure you set aside a small piece for the lid.Roll out nice even round taking care line basin ,fill with mix, round out lid Place onto mix fold over joining together. Tin foil the basin, secure with a elastic band. Steam for about one and half hours. Also very good instead of bacon, red onions and two good cheeses ie good strong cheddar and smoked cheese, also any cheese you prefer.
  20. Best I think speak to boatyard and insurance.
  21. Dont hold your breath! Will only improve with nee land lord and a good management team.
  22. Often bigger the better, with chillies the small ones are the hottest. However scotch bonnets are very hot.
  23. Very true, whole spices ,like coriander cumin, lightly toasted Ian dry pan, insuring there not brown then ground, much better in curries .Profsonally we use am of freshly and ground spices. I wouldn't recommend coffee grinder,if poss invest in a spice grinder. Another tip for curries when making curry about one third onions to meat, veg or fish.Brown without burning as much as possible. You will taste the difference.
  24. Spices: Ground spices dont like sunlight, try where possible to keep in the cupboard and or in meltal containers. Try to use spices as quick as possible. Ones that have been in the back of the cupboard for a few years, will lack flavour.Just snuff a new packet. You can tell fresh is best.Older spices won't harm you but your dish will lack some flavour. Fresh herbs,I've had a bay bush for about 15 years.Thyme rosemary mint. All great easy to look after.Always good to have a few that you like most. You can grow some together if space is limited.
  25. I spoke with my Nurse practitioner this evening about meds and also about my chest infection. Last night and early this morning, I had pains in my back. Not a back ache, but my lungs.Slightly concerning. She said it was is a bad infection and to have a follow up Xray, which the Doctor said also. She said if the pain continues have it done sooner rather then later. She said in her words it may have been a bit of covad. So if I'm still having pain tomorrow, I will get a Xray. I was getting ready to do my walk from Wednesday. Sadly I will cancel with the British lung foundation tomorrow .Was very much looking forward to doing the walk, but need to get over this. Hopefully I will do it next year.
