  1. There are normally four criteria for a licence objection, one is the safety of the public. The BA have the means at their disposal to stop this mooring if they so wanted. Likewise they are the planning authority. Objections to sell alcohol are normally taken very seriously especially if brought by a body such as the BA. So why not say " there is an easy way and a hard way let us come to a binding agreement" At the end of the day you need a licence to operate a pub, it is not good business sense to place that in jeopody.
  2. What about Friesland! Much Broadland history! Loynes had base there beore WW1. Pleasure wherries were towed there. It is like The Broads on performance enhancing drugs! A really good summer high over the South North Sea and I think you could make it in 12 to 14 hours. I bet plenty of TSDY owners would be willing to shadow you.
  3. Not for us unfortunately, we shall be in the air conditioned comfort of the NNUH with my very poorly wife. Acute Oncology is almost a second home to us these days.
  4. Must say that I tend to go along with the Griff BA type of outlook. I do not take to scruffy boats. Unfortunately due to circumstance my own is well below our normal standard. I like to see a boat well turned out, fenders stowed and looking it's best.
  5. Dear Vaughan, I would hate to think that I upset you in any way. I was merely trying to say that you were in the South of France and that quite reasonably you would not expect force 8 to severe 9 along the English Channel and the tail to lash the East Coast. In other words you would have expected normal August conditions on the Upper Thurne. And yes in calm conditions you could row a long warp out to a casualty as I have seen Richardsons do many times when one of their punters miss the entrance to the Ant and find the putty in Turkey Broad.
  6. Just a question, I have not heard of wrap being used on wood. Was your finish impervious? Could in direct sun the wood sweat even through epoxy and bubble a wrap. Or are you having a laugh?
  7. I would give almost anything to be down there again. Totally impossible though for us now, I am afraid.
  8. Parts of that area have become much more weed infested over the last three years or so. I fouled our outboard to the point of hardly making headway. We do however have platforms so once the engine was tilted it was easy to cut off. All along the arm of Barton leading to Gays and Lime Kiln it has got worse year on year. I think it might be because the broad has not frozen over for about four years and it keeps growing. Last year on the North Norfolk Coast I only got January off mowing. You used to winterise the mower Oct and not touch it till April, not now!
  9. Yes very like some of that area, Hoveton little is not much better in the NW corner.
  10. Yes, it was described on CH86 by Humber Coastguard as an unusually deep low for this time of year. Unfortunately my Runners and climbing French were beyond saving as were two courgette plants ripped out of the ground. Vaughan would not know that, too busy soaking up the sun and enjoying Moule Frites for lunch. I guess.
  11. For those readers who are not familiar with the North Martham Broad it is a beautiful piece of broadland wilderness with the most upper reach of the Thurne separating the north and south of the Broad. Off the river it is more like a deep water swamp, probably the nearest thing to an Everglade making passage impossible for any vessel except of the shallowest of draft and manually propelled.
  12. This was a response to a family who were in distress. The only persons who are in a position to question the validity of the response are the crew who attended. I doubt anybody else would take a boat into that Broad. No one else is qualified to comment.
  13. Looks like the rain is going to hang about until late morning, pm not too bad. Wind SW 3 to 4, could gust 5
  14. Early October can be a beautiful time of the year on the Broads. Hope you have a really good break.
  15. Why do they taste so good when you are in the Med, on holiday, and care free. I bet you a tenner that if you bring a can home and drink it after a shift it will taste like dish water. I know, done it with beer, wine and spirits. Leave them on their own turf, they do not travel well.
  16. As a Governor of the RNLI for more years than I care to remember and a resident of the Norfolk Coast who supports our excellent four independent stations ( Mundesley, Sea Palling, Hemsby and Caister I really fail to see the constant need to question the launch of a lifeboat. The most simple situation can so easily get out of control. A small ( actually 19ft ) boat being blown across an unnavigable weed infested Broad, no way of sailing to windward out, in the winds of yesterday and the motor US. I suspect that a number of the crew of that SeaWych were very frightened and extremely greatful to the Hemsby Crew. IMHO well done lads.
  17. A Seawych. I built one in the mid 70's You often see these adverised as "Sadler Seawych" which is really a bit naughty! The Seawych was designed by John Sadler who was in fact a Civil Engineer and moulded at his factory in Churchill Rd, Bicester, Oxon. The first 300 or so where white hull and grey topsides the rest were red hull and white topsides. Up until 1978 they were a complete kit of parts after that you could buy a kit with ballast encapsulated and interior moulding and hull and superstructure complete. The boat numbering was very haphazard on the white and grey boats, when you went to pick up your kit you were asked what colour sails "red or blue" these were pre-numbered so you sail number did not mean much! So I say naughty because a SeaWych never saw the pen of David Sadler of contessa fame or Sadler yachts run by his son Martin with some input by Rodney Pattison. Now you know.
  18. Let us hope not too many suffer damage on the first day. Listened in on VHF CH86 at 07.50 this morning and the unusually deep low is moving away nicely. In fact winds could be a bit on the light side mid week, hopefully a decent sea breeze will kick in with the hot weather forecast.
  19. I agree, but you might have airbrushed out that can of John Smiths!
  20. Hi, Richard, So those filtered extension leads are in fact working against the RCD! Am I correct?
  21. New Head Ranger! You know I thought that I had not heard from Yogi and Boo Boo for a week or so.
  22. Just been out near Mundesley and the wind is really begining to kick off. Got my hand held anemometer out on our terrace (we are exposed) and got a 37mph gust mean is running at 22mph.
  23. Looking at the charts you should have no problem. It will be windy but SSE. so not influenced by tide if you keep to the red ones it should be smooth up and down stream and smooth with the wind a' beam Wish I was able to attend. Have great weekend all.
  24. If only more thought and acted like you.
