  1. as the builder of the model, I can attest to the fact that any replacement wood going into the planking is indeed teak as i have a 3 foot offcut of the teak that has slowly been whittled down into small boards to make some of the wooden parts on the model. for certain the transom has a skin of teak (about 3/8 " thick) over the boards as when she was out of the water last year and replacing all the rubbing strakes, when i lifted the stern rubbing strake it brought a section of the dressing plank with it which had to be replaced (there was evidence of small patches of rot in the dressing board where water had been trapped behind the rail).
  2. I one had a locked brake cylinder on the volvo, I eventually got it unlocked, clamping it in a vice didnt work, but 150 PSI air hose in the inlet finally got it to do something, I ended up splitting the two halves of the brake unit to clean it out, put it back together and it worked perfectly
  3. looks like a certain sub lieutenant Phillips was in charge of docking.
  4. I will both need to book holiday and arrange for the use of the boat.
  5. made it to 11.45 here, then fell asleep, it was tipping it down outside. so any fireworks were far enough away not to wake me. Happy new year everyone what only 1 month for libations MM?
  6. I find it ironic that over 20 years ago, I was advising my colleagues at the local electricity board that if we wanted to see an uprise in the uptake of electric vehicles, the time to start installing charging points in all car parks was now (now as in 20 years ago) at the time the company saw no profit in it for them, so decided to ignore the advice (I was on the green / sustainability committee for the company). well I hate to say I told you so.
  7. maybe you need a few spares such as blanking caps in the toolbox, as even if an engineer comes to fix it, having the part to hand may save time.
  8. with an air draft under 6 foot, i have passed through great yarmouth at non optimal times, in fact tidal flow is less nearer high water than low, at low water the tide is literally gushing out of the bure, so heading against it is a slow progress at full power, whereas heading against it near high water there is a lot less flow. but that is only achievable if the tides are within their normal range, and you have the airdraft to get under the bridges at high tide. ideally i try and cross N to S about 1 hour before high tide on the yare, with the current flow this means I am pushing against tide, but with the river flow so the tidal influence is less, plus i get the last of the flood across Breydon, headed S to N i try and arrive either just as the tide is starting to flood just before Breydon Bridge, or once again 1 hour before high water on the Bure. But this is dependent upon having a low air draft and clearance at the bridges. for a novice the best approach is to follow the 1 hour after low water advice (you will never get it spot on as the tides can often be up to an hour early or late.)

    Tides

water not coming in. seriously, maybe its the wind direction, maybe its blowing the incoming tide away, the wind has been pretty strong most of the day.
  10. they had to deal with a similar hole at the port of Dover, according to my Dad, this hole was a little bit larger, wghere they had extended the concrete pad for more lorry parking, they started dumping concrete into it, as the waves had got behind the piling and removed the subsurface gravel, 100 concrete trucks later they started to get some results and could at least see the bottom of the hole, I cant recall how many he said it took to completely fill . all we really need t know is the name of the person who has been gradually increasing the height every time they passed under the bridge, because we need to tell them they cant go any further.
  11. well my stuffed turkey breast joint was just £5.29 and it going to give me at least 3 meals plus the meat turned out lovely.
  12. well my lidls stuffed turkey breast was just too big for my air fryer, so into the oven it went in its foil tray, covered with foil for 1 hour, then foil off for the second hour, small roasting potatoes on the hob boiled for 20 minutes, then with half an hour to go, into the oven on a tray with the frozen chantannay carrots and brussels sprouts (with bacon) also frozen, (about 1/4 of a small bag of each. 2 hours after starting my modest christmas dinner was ready, served up and eaten, yum, about 2/3 of the turkey roast along with some potatoes and other veg (yes I had still done way more than enough) into a pyrex dish into the fridge for the traditional christmas leftovers meals over the next few days. I had a quiet Christmas, didnt do much and overall enjoyed my day
  13. On behalf of the team I would like to thank all of you and wish you a happy Christmas
  14. well today, I did my christmas shopping, then it was time to supervise the CNC router while it printed some snowflake baubles as presents for the kiddies boxing day round my sisters, after which the Crackling gammon went on and was cooked (the lidls stuffed turkey breast will be done tomorrow). played around for a bit testing LED's in the clear snowflake baubles that ran over the edge of the sheet, had some chinese for tea, yep christmas preparations achieved in one day, and finished by 7pm. not bad if I say so myself. oh yes when i popped into B&Q they were selling off the christmas trees 10p each, I didnt get one as I dont have space and the cats would trash it in seconds.
  15. of course deciding which umbrella to use is critical

  18. oh dear, I somehow managed to get voted to do the next team pop quiz at work (in january) so have been raiding my old quiz sheets and creating a powerpoint presentation.
  19. anyone else noticed that the link now comes up as page not found on the broads authority website
  20. round our way they have carefully positioned speed humps in the braking zones before side turnings on a steep hill, so you see a speed hump brake for it, and the car waiting at the side turn decides you have slowed to let him out, and then just when you are at peak emergency braking you hit the speed hump and lose all traction at the front, so dangerous, not to mention damaging to the cars.
  21. oh, I have them on kindle and audible too
  22. I do have several sets of the books, paperback / hardback, and 2 (coot club and big 6) that travel to the broads with me
  23. I actually managed to wheelie a volkswagen variant over a hump backed bridge once, all I could see was sky
