    My Day

My day was more my weekend. I didn't make the Horning Boat Show nor the Swallows & Amazons talk at Norfolk Broads Yacht Club (although WR did make it there - that was another story!). My weekend was a quick dash to Cardiff to see my first grandchild who was born at 01:01 weighing in at 7lb 10oz on Saturday 5th May! Mum and baby are doing okay although they did have a pretty rough/tough time. First picture is 13 hours old and the second 1 day and 13 hours old! Although his first interest will be cycling, I am hoping he will also like sailing and boats! He will probably also be tri-lingual with Welsh, English and Polish as languages he will be able to speak!
  2. Thanks, a hard challenge me thinks :)
  3. Out of curiosity what is the boat next to Grebe in the shed? Amazing work you are doing!
  4. You can almost here a CC a mile off. At Horning you know when one is nearby...
  5. I'm hoping it's warm. In this weather warmth is needed!!
  6. Weight is seriously hard! 2 1/2 years ago my BP was confirmed as high and at the same time my daughter persuaded me to go to slimming world ( local health authority pay for 6 weeks) so I did. 6 months later I was 2 stone lighter but it is so hard. Currently fighting to get back in target having put 7 lb on for over 12 months.. there are so many reasons/excuses. I walk/relatively fit but to anyone trying to loose weight it is hard after the initial successes. Also my blood pressure stayed high. Liz
  7. ps forgot to mention there is some swimming in it!
  8. Saw this posted on a FB group just now - from the East Anglian Film Archive - don't think it has been shared on here before or at least not recently although recollect JM posting photos? In one shot you can see the smoke from a steam engine going along one of the lines out of Beccles! http://www.eafa.org.uk/catalogue/192 Liz
  9. Definitely a trip up to the loft is required!!!! Delight X went to the Shannon the following year or the end of that season and was still floating a few years ago - haven't been in touch with the owner for awhile!
  10. It's not a large Broom resembling an Admiral with a chimney I wonder?
  11. Is the one for 4 in West Somerton still open. There appears to be a route around the top bit of the Thurne here? And away from Mr Nog's usual travels?
  12. Oops just read the post properly. Maybe a Moore?
  13. Suggest Ferry Boatyard? My father insisted on fenders up. I don't as I have to pay the bill if anyone hits me. Modern world!!!
  14. That's very sad news but what a fighter! Peace at last!
  15. We don't know where Jay has been today do we............ he says a busy day but that doesn't mean he has been a long distance and I just wondered whether it was the Ram. The 'boys' walked up there last September and their comments made me wonder
  16. Wasn't there a situation similar in the Horsey area a few years ago when a hole appeared in a drainage dyke and a lot of water disappeared?

    Brundall

I remember Norman Chalk's there in the 60s. Loved the Brundall gardens mooring back then, the giant hogweed and the marsh gas!
  18. I think the smell of bacon being cooked on a boat has to be the absolute winner. Over in Stanstead Abbotts there is the last remaining Maltings in the area and when the wind is in the right direction and they are roasting, what smells like roasted coffee beans wafts over Ware! The 'smell' I really struggle with is that of a certain High Street shop that sells soap products - the items might look very pretty and for some smell lovely but I start sneezing and have to escape very quickly!
  19. In Ware we have got off quite lightly but trains struggling for several days. Tried to be a bit more extreme this afternoon but still a tad pathetic to other areas. A short 10 minute power cut last night tripped the thermostat on my greenhouse heater last night which meant cold plants this morning :(
  20. I'm pleased my boats are out the water this year and in a shed!

    My Day

It wasn't just 'My Day' but 'My Extended Weekend' with a build up of several months. First it involved my youngest daughter Second it involved making a wedding cake - requiring a specific theme and a lot of sleepless nights! Then driving down to Faversham - collecting and collating family and friends on the way from many different parts of the country, not just Norfolk. (The Grooms family do come from Kent but it was the venue that was the key reason) We were so lucky with the weather despite it being very cold, it was sunny throughout and thankfully everyone got home by yesterday which also involved a trip to Norwich and to Horning so I could check on WR and getting back to Hertfordshire before the weather set in (no trains running from Ware to London so daughter 2 can't get to work!) So after an exhausting weekend, life is now back to normal for several months. I should add that the Shepherd Neame Old Brewery Store was a fantastic venue for a wedding if you would something a bit quirky and different. The whole event went very smoothly and everyone had an excellent time. The receipt for the bar tab was the height of my eldest daughter!! Also on the Friday afternoon we went on a Brewery Tour which was very interesting!! I must say that the boat covers on the old Thames Barges by the quay were quite impressive - more like a greenhouse cloche so that not only did it cover the boat but they could work underneath as well! Unfortunately it was low tide! Here are some photos of the weekend..........including the cake! Fruit; Red Velvet and Vanilla Sponge!
  24. Seen at Faversham Creek this weekend - this was all I could see! http://www.broads.org.uk/wiki/index.php5?title=Boat_Details&BoatId=5371&BoatHistory=47295
