  1. Bearing in mind you are starting from WRC, the chances are you will be passing them at some point during your week. That’s if you are going to Beccles as well as heading for the Yare. Pop in on your way by for a pump out.
  2. I reckon this is probably what happened. I doubt any boatyard is going to risk the business by deliberately hiring to a number of young people totally against all the guidelines. Maybe another reason the yard in question should have been made aware?
  3. Telephone this time. Two calls concerning the Government funded insulation installed (which is news to me of course!). Problems have occurred and the loft needs to be surveyed. This is clearly an attempt to gain access to the property, maybe to identify work that needs doing urgently (yeah right!) or worse, for criminal purposes. Once challenged, the phone call is terminated pronto. It would be all too easy for an elderly person living alone to be caught out here, particularly if they had by chance had government funded insulation installed. These people are just b******s. Please excuse my french!
  4. If only, the Woods End pub closed years ago! It’s now the Waters Edge at Bramerton and I have heard they don’t like hire boats moored outside. How true that is I have no idea. Probably best to try and check on any venue to be visited bearing in mind some won’t be open or limited in access.
  5. June? Or July?........
  6. So I wonder what happens if someone from Leicester has a boat booked from Saturday. Refund readily available?
  7. That has been suggested on quite a few occasions, I wish there was a way we could find out! Hire boats won’t need tolling if they are not used this season (as far as I know) so all things considered it would make sense to use fewer and have more control for cleaning etc.
  8. Abuse from anglers? Surely not.........
  9. Thanks for that info. I have often seen people do it, particularly anglers. I assume it refers to dinghies too? It’s certainly not unusual to find a dinghy with anglers on board mudweighted mid-stream.
  10. Just read Andy’s post above re the court hearing he attended - that’s good news.
  11. If someone is found guilty of speeding, wouldn’t they be liable for the BA’s costs? Seems to me that, if they are not, there is no point in a prosecution as the associated fines seem to be less than £1000 generally. Probably serves to act as a deterrent to a small extent anyhow.
  12. A couple of years back we had a takeaway Indian from India Gate delivered to the boat at Beccles Yacht Station. It was superb and very good service.
  13. Simon - my apologies for asking whether it was north or south you wanted when the clue is in the topic title! I know a few people use mudweights fore and aft, to hold the boat steady, and moor close to a bank but not touching it. You obviously need to make sure there is sufficient depth for this and it probably wouldn’t be sensible in a strong/gusty wind. I am assuming you are hiring so you could ask the boatyard to provide you with a second mudweight. I’m sure if this is a naff suggestion, someone will very quickly say so.
  14. I had tried to find out where Vagabond was going to finally pitch up but without success. Does anyone know where she is destined for?
  15. I have picked that one aspect as, over the years, I have read many comments such as ‘wish we had bought a bigger boat to begin with’. Once you start using a boat, you tend to fill all the space available with a lot of gear you didn’t know you needed! Two dogs can get under your feet in too small a space, even small dogs - I know, I have two! Whatever, good luck with your search and do let us know how you get on. Oh, and welcome to the forum too!
  16. Putting myself in the place of the witnesses, I don’t think I would want to be making more than one phone call. If a call had been made to the boatyard and the recklessness and thoughtlessness mentioned, the hirers could have been tackled on their return. I take your point Vaughan on the car hire aspect but the Broads is a unique entity and I think we all have a responsibility to keep it enjoyable for everyone.
  17. It was something the witnesses mentioned.
  18. And have a word with them about dumping rubbish in the reeds...............
  19. If they manage to find them, I hope they will take up the matter of the rubbish being dumped in the reeds too. Sadly all this sort of behaviour is too commonplace these days and I really have my doubts that anything further will happen. If the witnesses did contact the hire yard, hopefully something will have been said to the hirers. Nor me, but not with someone else’s property.....😇. I don’t remember rubbish dumping ever being the big problem it is today. 😡

    River Yare

Ah, now I know where/what webntweb meant! Yes, it is a hill of sorts and the chippy is the Loddon Plaice (?) I think. Apologies to webntweb.

    River Yare

Brooms also have visitor moorings now. Contact the parish council perhaps? For the life of me I can’t picture any hill at Loddon, did you mean Loddon?
  22. That’s the one. Pub long gone now of course. ☹️
  23. BA news says that the Authority have taken over the Castle Moorings (next to Caen Meadow above Wroxham). Work is to be carried out with completion later this summer. From memory, this is only a small mooring for only 2/3 boats and at the back of my mind I seem to recall that it was a BA mooring way back - memory might be faulty there though! Any extra mooring has to be a good thing anyway.
