  1. But then we’re told that by the time a vaccine is found the virus will have mutated and the vaccine will be useless. We’ve just got to get on with a life of strict hand-washing, hand sanitisation, anti-bac wipes, disinfection sprays, face coverings 😷 and social distancing. (Have I missed anything?) It’s becoming second nature as time goes on, apart from to many young people who seem to think they’re immune. Oh, and the elderly joggers who huff and puff and snort as they pass you on a very narrow footpath!!
  2. Seems the Coop just let it all happen. I was in the Coop in Loddon yesterday, notice on the door said only 22 allowed in at once but people were wandering in at will. Certainly more than 22 in the store. I saw no hand sanitiser or cleansing sprays for the little trolleys they have. Very few people with face coverings. I have noticed in the supermarkets that the young members of staff filling shelves etc seem to have no idea of social distancing. They just carry on as normal chatting amongst themselves quite close to each other and just rely on the customers to keep the necessary distance.
  3. Spot on Fred. (But I’m not too sure about the dancing bit!)
  4. It depends where you go down south. Norwich YS I believe is £12 and in Beccles both Hipperson’s and Derby’s Quay were around that last year. Broom’s is, and always has been, the most expensive.
  5. Just an update on Broom’s new setup. The new kiosk is open and various goodies, including ice cream, on sale. The water hose is now stored away in a cupboard of sorts and has to be released for use. That I think means the kiosk attendant has to be there to assist so no water readily available out of hours. Kiosk opening hours are Tues/Wed/Thurs/Sun 8.15am to 4.30pm and Mon/Fri/Sat 10.30am to 4.30pm. Fuel looked to be £1.28 per litre. Pumpout still £18 for single tank.
  6. Depends if you want comfort. (I think this is probably an age thing as I like to walk around on carpet in the cooler months.) We have washable mats which can lay over carpet or hard flooring. They just get taken home, put in the washing machine then brought back for the next trip. Having the dogs, they are great when it’s wet and pick up any muck walked in.
  7. In nearly 40 years of boating I have never had a pair of wellies! I do have a pair of rubber gardening shoes for mooring up etc when it’s particularly wet and muddy and I have a pair of M&S footglove slip on shoes for deck wear. The soles are brilliant and they only cost £20 in a sale. Add to those a pair of walking boots for walking the dogs and a pair of trainer type shoes for pubs or whatever and that’s me sorted. I don’t think you need to pay top dollar for practicality.
  8. Hope it all settles down again soon so you can get back to Nyx and finish your trip. I had kidney stones when I was a teenager and I remember how painful it was! Lots of liquid needed to aid recovery I seem to recall..............😀
  9. Craghoppers also have an outlet: https://www.craghoppers.com/outlet/
  10. This is presumably what Ian (Chelsea14Ian) met earlier today, he didn’t seem to think it was too much of a problem. Maybe the EDP is short of good stories so have to embellish what was probably a slight hiccup.
  11. Welcome back Ian, it’s a good feeling to be back afloat isn’t it? Enjoy your trip but don’t overdo the cleaning, it’ll keep. We have cottage pie and vegetables tonight too only I call ours boat pie. No prizes for guessing why!
  12. Sanderson’s are still hiring, unless the few boats I have seen have been sold but names not changed.
  13. Will there be enough there?
  14. Must admit I was surprised to see them out on a Monday. Maybe they’re all furloughed!
  15. Now I wasn’t going to make any such suggestion. 😇
  16. There are a lot of boats around Ian, Berney Arms and Polkey’s Mill were busy on Monday evening - probably because the Brundall Navy were out in force! Slack water crossing time for Breydon is early afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday I think so, if you can time it right, you could grab a spot after someone has left and before anyone else arrives.
  17. I do believe threads are beginning to drift a bit more than they have done lately - I wonder why that is. 🤔

You’ll be wanting a Winchester next!
  19. I wish I could give your post more ‘likes’ Fred. It sums up my thoughts quite well too. There have been many times recently when I have wondered why we didn’t do something earlier when it seemed so logical and other countries were already taking action. We always seem to be playing catch-up these days!
  20. Camero went to City Boats I think, still that red colour. City Boats went down (not literally!) a couple of years back so I guess Camero is probably in private hands now.
  21. A few years back I was talking to a guy from a private boat moored nearby when he said ‘must go, I’ve got to start the engine so the wife can wash up with hot water’. My flabber has never been so ghasted! 🤨
  22. Those of us who spend as much time as we can on our boats, and those experienced hirers, know how irritating a running engine can be. Trouble is, a newbie will read/watch Richardson’s instructions and take it as gospel that the engine should be run every evening. (These instructional videos were on Facebook by the way.) There is no easy answer to this. I’m not quite sure who you mean when you say ‘our current practice’ Andrew, I can’t see the boatyards changing their instructions very easily.
  23. I noticed on one of Richardson’s instructional videos that, apart from cruising 3/4 hours per day, they recommend running the engine for 45 minutes each evening to top up the batteries. They do however say do it before 8pm.
  24. Ditto, that’s why we seldom watch BBC. Live football and news/weather bulletins are the exceptions. We have freesat and freeview and there’s enough stuff on those to record and watch at leisure. The trouble with BBC and their self-advertisements on radio, is that they continually interrupt an interesting article or speaker to play a jingle or promote an upcoming programme. Utterly offensive sometimes.
