  1. That's a nasty looking whack in a wooden looking hull! Not going to be a cheap fix, so who's insurance would pay that one? At least no-one hurt.
  2. No webcam but if you want to see peregrines in action while having a beer go to the reedcutter at cantley and watch the chimneys at the sugar refinery.
  3. Is it the peace and tranquility missing since silly season started?

    Drunks

Dear Sir I recently saw your topic titled "drunks" and would like to apply for the job, can you please send me an application form. Yours sincerely A drunk!
  5. The nearest you will get is http://eastportuk.co.uk/Tidal_Chart.aspx It gives the tide level above chart datum at gt.yarmouth so is only realy any use at the yarmouth bridges and you still need to do your own survey at a known time with a tape measure over your roof to make use of it, I use it for haven bridge as I know if the online gauge is 2m or less I can get under folded down, there is a spreadsheet you can use which is probably fine for the fixed bridges at GY but for haven it gives nearly half a metre less than there actually is, it says I can't get under till it's below 1.6m but at 2m I have plenty of headroom. I believe the haven bridge is higher than the fixed bridges but the chart says they are the same, the online gauge is normally 10 minutes behind real time. Bear in mind the actual gauge is probably in the outer harbour or near the entrance of the river so there will be differences in time from there to the bridges and it will work opposite for ebb and flow, I'm guessing on position but it does get wavy in high winds at the top of the curve so that indicates close to sea position. It's probably worth mentioning that when I came under haven last saturday with the tide falling there was quite a big standing wave under haven bridge, as we approached it looked like the shade of the bridge making the wash look bigger till I got closer and saw it was actually a wave about a foot high, it didn't make us bob at all we just cut through it but it did make me a bit nervous of my measures.
  6. That's no problem, try it at potter and do us all a favour. That bridge would make lovely hardcore!
  7. The captains hat is generally a giveaway of a hireboat.
  8. You don't need to reverse if the tide is strong enough to be a problem, you simply go forward at a slower rate that the tide is running, this gives plenty of steering control and instant brakes by giving more throttle, I've been under bridges I wasn't sure of like that before as it's safer on a running tide. Not sure I would suggest a total novice try it though.
  9. It wasn't working at all last saturday, I had to change my times so I could fold down and sneak under as the tide dropped, they were having issues with early may BH too but did manage to get lifts.
  10. You can go further up that the ribs and mischief (fye bridge I think) but not sure how far, the only time I tried the tide was rising and I was short on headroom so wussed and turned back after a couple of beers in the ribs.
  11. With my garmin I wanted a repeater screen so £60later and an android tablet gives full remote over wifi.
  12. Check how much coastal you think you will actually do before you take too much of robins advice, theres no point spending a fortune for the odd trip to southwold and robin loves his gadgets. I'm sat at woodbridge after a foggy trip down with a 30 year old foruno radar and garmin 557xs plotter with no concerns. Garmin are renowned for customer service, don't know about others.
  13. Thanks for the clarification.
  14. I heard a story of water edge not doing food at the moment, has anyone else heard anything? The pub moorings looked busy this morning as did brammerton common.
  15. Some of the garmin chartplotters accept their topo inland mapping, my 557xs does and it was only £20 for the extra map. It wasn't supposed to be compatable according to their lists.
  16. Best spread a phone number around then Mark.... Could come in handy.

  20. Pic 2 looks like happisburgh lighthouse (not hasbro) so should be easy to find on a map, sorry have nothing useful on the rest.

    Bye Bye

I find the last bit of that very petty, not a dig at you JohnK but a dig at forum rules where to mention the opposition is a sin, different forums appeal to different folk for different reasons, wouldn't the world be a boring place if we were all the same.
  22. And "broad" sounds so much better than " water filled derelict industrial workings" which doesn't make it sound nearly so tempting to play on.
  23. And I thought it was just the yank rozzers that had the reputation for doughnuts!
  24. Wasn't it an online personality test that cambridge analytica used to harvest lots of personal data.... I won't be taking it.
  25. The wind is due to drop later, tomorrow should be ok.
