  1. If you higher a martham boat it will NOT get under ph bridge, if you hire one it will.😛
  2. If a tec-tank you can send it back and get them to fit extra threaded bosses where you need them (at a price of course), I believe they weld them in ultrasonically. Check the thickness of the tank wall as they usually specify 3/8" thick for a holding tank.
  3. Of course if a deeper river runs slower it also drops more sediment and gets shallower again. I doubt there will ever be a simple solution, the fact is these watercourses have always been changing in their nature and we are probably weeing in the wind trying to stop them, the same as the coastlines have always been changing but now it's a problem because we insist on building on the tops of the soft bits and then complain when they disappear under us.
  4. I assume the 2.5" is the outer diameter of the hub, it's the taper that is the critical bit, are you planning to make your own wheel? (I have a spoked wooden one in my loft that needs a bit of tidying, 3/4" taper I think but can't tell you OD without looking) dnks34, you can get sleeves for that conversion I believe. Griff, I guess the cashless card payment only breed nowadays is going to have to learn that nothing comes cheap when payed on a card, walk in the back door of a workshop with a bit of cash and you can get lots done and much quicker/cheaper, just don't let the guvnor see....
  5. I saw the author and title and thought 'blimey april 1st soon came around' ...
  6. I once picked up a popup tent, the kind with the spring steel loop that pops out to form the shape, that took some getting off but on outdrives at the time so accessible at least, I had to take the prop off to clear it. I've done the shore power thing too, I wonder why those people are shouting and pointing, TWANNNGGGG! The lead don't half go past quick when the plug gives way. That piccie looks to be a yank going by the plug type.
  7. Red sky at night.....chernobyl! Nice piccie.
  8. Just a shame that the draught makes spirit of bullsh*t so completely useless in grounding situations seeing as that is the most common issue on breydon.
  9. If you can choose your day better aiming to get to reedham just after low water would be the ideal as it would take you down to the cut then turn and push you all the way to oulton broad.
  10. So when will we see the first one out and about on breydon waiting for the tide to come back so they can float again? How about hovercraft skirts in the design.....
  11. As another ex gt.ousey type I have to agree with the credit given to goba for their moorings, it's the main reason I joined, some have been lost over the years due to being misused but most are still available and fairly well looked after but of course there are far less hire boats on the gt.ouse, that's not a dig at hireboats in general just that members tend to look after club assets better than visitors.
  12. I have to admit to seeing the nya cruises and thinking 'cruises with carers' I think they almost put you off going out alone. The day skipper course is well worth doing, we've only done the theory part but it puts you in good stead and lets you realise that you don't know enough which is far better than going out thinking you know it all, when we did it we were going out of kings lynn with a 7 knot boat so everything was a full tide away with no boltholes so day skipper didn't really cover it but the experience was fantastic. Southwold is a great place to get yourself into it as with a fold down you should get the skilso under haven bridge at half tide or less and southwold is all tide as long as you go in at 310 degrees (ish) and hug the north bank once past the knuckle till past the lifeboat station, with good planning orford is lovely but you will have to use a swinging mooring or anchor so you need a tender, deben is a gorgeous river but you need to time the bar well (same with orford) and woodbridge is a pretty town with plenty of pubs. Look forward to seeing you out there next season, prepare to see your fuel bills rocket....
  13. Lucky little sod! Lego will do him far more good than anything with a screen, I'd have loved technical lego when I was a brat but had to make do with the regular stuff.
  14. Cracking looking boat and well capable of a few decent salty trips I would guess, the east coast has some lovely places to go, a couple of recommended reads are 'east coast pilot' and 'crossing the thames estuary' both written and updated by east coast sailors and full of invaluble info, just remember they are writing for a 5' keel with sail so a mobo can stretch the advised times quite well.
  15. But the wood has had 50 years to degrade... Only a survey will give anything away.
  16. And if you go the other way along the flood bank and through the woods you can get to the decoy tavern with only the small back road, it's just on a mile in total and a fantastic walk back when dark.
  17. This bit copied from my post in St.Olaves thread. "I have a set of hard plastic pipes that slot together with a rope through for either use as a fenderboard horizontally or from the handrails vertically for places like reedham with it's concrete edge, once folded down they sit in the lazarette nicely over the rudder gear along with dinghy oars and broom/mop. " And this bit added. They are open ended so don't float and run down to about 18" below the chines so perfect for reedham. (in fact that is where I made them for)
  18. The fishermans only ever opens for the main season and then it seems to open grudgingly and shut very keenly.
  19. Not a great loss there then as the last few visits have been most disapointing, at least you can have a bbq there though. I have a set of hard plastic pipes that slot together with a rope through for either use as a fenderboard horizontally or from the handrails vertically for places like reedham with it's concrete edge, once folded down they sit in the lazarette nicely over the rudder gear along with dinghy oars and broom/mop. 63mm mains water pipe has a nice 2" bore that you can slot a bit of stainless tube into but you need to turn one end down slightly for an easy fit.
  20. I've used the burgh castle moorings as a wild mooring a couple of times since it's been closed with no problems but will be well overgrown I would guess and the power is definately off at the post. The piling at the fishermans leaves a lot to be desired as fenders tend to sit in the gaps and leave you banging. St.olaves moorings are fine. Are you coming in from sea or down from the northern rivers?
  21. No problem Trevor, just wait until the gauge at the bridge says 8'2" and fold down to 8'8" and go under with a bit of clearance, been under several times with no probs.
  22. Is there any rule about fishermen at neatishead? I thought it was a parish staithe not ba mooring as it's the parish council that supply the water points there. (I am probably wrong though)
  23. Don't go coastal what ever you do, I recon taking my mum for a pub lunch in southwold last year cost me £150 for a pint and a chip butty! Started from reedham and ended up in the bell at st.olaves for the evening. Great day though and she loved it.
  24. It's not allowed to end! That would be endist.
  25. Thanks for that, I'm heading down there in a couple weeks so will need to be moored on the southwold side then. (or can barriers be climbed over?)
