  1. And nothing more technical than half the boats going under are already using.... And no rusty water dripping too. The other option is to use rubber rails and tie a knot in the middle when they expand.....
  2. I'm sure B2P will have a reason why this won't work but here goes anyway....... How about a narrow rectangular tank clamped (like a NB skin tank) to the side of the rails with water flowing through cooled by the river via heat exchanger? The heat exchanger doesn't need to be any more technical that a coil of plastic pipe in the river ( like ground source heat pump), no salt water goes near the bridge as it would be a closed system with anti freeze mix, and it would only take a fairly low power pump to circulate it. Boaters happy Bridge happy Low cost I don't suppose there's any way the inside of the rail could be used like that but why not the outside?
  3. " Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall" That name must be a wind up.
  4. Had I read this before leaving I would have given you a tow, left rockland broad 11.30ish heading for thorpe via the downstream cut (as it's deeper that way), didn't see you at all so I assume you were round the corner towards the beuchamps. Could have easily given you a tow to brundle, no use now as back home 100 miles away.
  5. BA put it towards their next pointless vanity project!
  6. Spot on idea ECIPA as long as the info is forthcoming from the bridges, it's an issue we can whinge about as long as we like but in reality it's not going to go away anytime soon so we may as well do what we can to live with the situation as best we can (I await the barrage of "but we shouldn't have to live with it"). I've just done myself a little spreadsheet of times when I think I can get under haven bridge for my next 2 week holiday as I don't expect I'll get any lifts and don't plan on being trapped on the rivers, but I'm lucky and can fold down to 9' when needed, just means I won't always be able to pick my tide as well.
  7. Maybe if they fitted a winter sun it would help.
  8. Be aware that july is the main season for sea monsters and dragons on the southern broads and the tides run at 20 knots at that time of the year and don't follow the tables, sometimes it even runs sideways into the bank. Far better and safer to stay north.......
  9. I wonder what it's like to be inundated by bushiness? I suggest veet for men.
  10. It's ok it's sorted now, they have found a roll of gaffer tape and put it over the 3" gap. Annoyingly for the cars stuck there's probably bigger potholes on the approach to the bridge.
  11. Maybe Robin could mudweight independence under it and salute the bridge crew.
  12. That's terrible! Ha Ha He He Ha Ha He He Ha Ha He He Ha Ha He He Ha Ha He He
  13. BSS doesn't really care if the boat is sinking, as long as it don't explode.
  14. That's a nasty looking whack in a wooden looking hull! Not going to be a cheap fix, so who's insurance would pay that one? At least no-one hurt.
  15. No webcam but if you want to see peregrines in action while having a beer go to the reedcutter at cantley and watch the chimneys at the sugar refinery.
  16. Is it the peace and tranquility missing since silly season started?

    Drunks

Dear Sir I recently saw your topic titled "drunks" and would like to apply for the job, can you please send me an application form. Yours sincerely A drunk!
  18. The nearest you will get is http://eastportuk.co.uk/Tidal_Chart.aspx It gives the tide level above chart datum at gt.yarmouth so is only realy any use at the yarmouth bridges and you still need to do your own survey at a known time with a tape measure over your roof to make use of it, I use it for haven bridge as I know if the online gauge is 2m or less I can get under folded down, there is a spreadsheet you can use which is probably fine for the fixed bridges at GY but for haven it gives nearly half a metre less than there actually is, it says I can't get under till it's below 1.6m but at 2m I have plenty of headroom. I believe the haven bridge is higher than the fixed bridges but the chart says they are the same, the online gauge is normally 10 minutes behind real time. Bear in mind the actual gauge is probably in the outer harbour or near the entrance of the river so there will be differences in time from there to the bridges and it will work opposite for ebb and flow, I'm guessing on position but it does get wavy in high winds at the top of the curve so that indicates close to sea position. It's probably worth mentioning that when I came under haven last saturday with the tide falling there was quite a big standing wave under haven bridge, as we approached it looked like the shade of the bridge making the wash look bigger till I got closer and saw it was actually a wave about a foot high, it didn't make us bob at all we just cut through it but it did make me a bit nervous of my measures.
  19. That's no problem, try it at potter and do us all a favour. That bridge would make lovely hardcore!
  20. The captains hat is generally a giveaway of a hireboat.
  21. You don't need to reverse if the tide is strong enough to be a problem, you simply go forward at a slower rate that the tide is running, this gives plenty of steering control and instant brakes by giving more throttle, I've been under bridges I wasn't sure of like that before as it's safer on a running tide. Not sure I would suggest a total novice try it though.
  22. It wasn't working at all last saturday, I had to change my times so I could fold down and sneak under as the tide dropped, they were having issues with early may BH too but did manage to get lifts.
  23. You can go further up that the ribs and mischief (fye bridge I think) but not sure how far, the only time I tried the tide was rising and I was short on headroom so wussed and turned back after a couple of beers in the ribs.
  24. With my garmin I wanted a repeater screen so £60later and an android tablet gives full remote over wifi.
  25. Check how much coastal you think you will actually do before you take too much of robins advice, theres no point spending a fortune for the odd trip to southwold and robin loves his gadgets. I'm sat at woodbridge after a foggy trip down with a 30 year old foruno radar and garmin 557xs plotter with no concerns. Garmin are renowned for customer service, don't know about others.
