  1. Pretty bad I suspect! Check out the video of a Silver Jubilee going through in the fog. Amazing.
  2. Possibly but I think the point is the distress it's causing the birds this year. In a similar vein there are issues with contractors netting hedgerows near housing developments too.
  3. Oi! Hands off Mrs V Mr Fire Sir!! Mrs Nog and I have already invited her to share her cooking skills with us. I think Mr V wouldn't have been too keen though...... I can also say getting old hasn't diminished my appetite.....
  4. I think the boatyards have a role to play here. They are so windy about having to call out to flat batteries that they overkill the need to run the engine, possibly?
  5. Very helpful there JM and in perfect harmony with Poppy!
  6. It's a bit like what's a good pub, ask 10 people and you'll get 10 different answers I can't recall having a bad breakfast on the Broads I think Surlingham Ferry is well rated however
  7. Also if they are blowing free as Mrs Nog calls it they often have the sail out at right angles to the river. This 'usually' seems to indicate they are going in s straight line, but keep clear of the flappy bits! Yachts also sometimes come in a straight line bur on the wrong side of the river, perhaps JM or Poppy could comment on that one? PS - if we are in doubt Mrs Nog always tries to get an indication of intent from the helm
  8. Very well deserved IMHO and good call by my CAMRA colleagues
  9. I agree, nothing but praise for HW from me. They were very helpful and understanding when Mrs N broke her ankle a while back. We've hired from them every February for quite a few years now. Office staff always friendly and helpful (bar the fish barrier fiasco) and the yard staff are excellent, really helpful and nothing too much trouble. OK, we've been many times so don't need much in the way of information and instruction but it's there if needed. We only ever had to call them out once for a slight leak on the calorifier (hangover from winter maintenance) and they even once delivered a microwave to us in Yarmouth as they had forgotten to put it on board and we hadn't noticed at first. I'm very pleased with them and coincidentally we've been rattling the piggy bank today with a view to booking again next February.
  10. Good examples but if you get a refund on the fuel you are only out of pocket on a temporary basis? Also if a customer uses more fuel than the deposit (which does happen) the yard has to get them to cough up when they return. More often than not the customer cannot understand why they are being charged extra and will complain accordingly. The average punter has little comprehension about fuel consumption. If they get a refund however they feel quite chuffed. It's swings and roundabouts I know.
  11. You do get the money back though Jean, we got a hefty refund even for 10 days in February.
  12. I usually aim for similar. As a result of the 'under tow' (thanks Vaughan) the river level will rise on the Bure so best not to leave it too long if clearance is an issue. North to South isn't too bad but a short delay will certainly ease passage going South to North. Having said all of this it might be better not to divert too wildly from the slack times.
  13. Sorry, members tend to refer to Potter Heigham Bridge as 'that bridge' as its the most difficult to get through of all Broads bridges, in fact opportunities are very rare for most craft.
  14. For comparison the offering from Faircraft Loynes
  15. Don't forget your pointy sticking out bit!
  16. Great stuff, I'll dig my Lionel Blairs out Excellent pub too
  17. Good advice. You'll be fine! Keep between the posts but be careful where the channel bends particularly just west of Breydon Bridge and as you approach the Yare/Waveney end of Breydon. Its nothing to worry about though. We've done it dozens of times but me and the better half usually keep an eye on each other just in case a lapse of concentration should occur! You've obviously done your homework so it will be a breeze. Do let us know how you get on!

  19. The pilot wouldn't take you through if there was any risk of not getting back. sadly the chances of getting through these days are very slim indeed. Do have a plan B if you can! Best of luck though.
  20. No, Keith went a few years ago but Wendy and Carl are still running Horning cars as far as I am aware. Highly recommended. We have also used Our Hire at Acle and Courtesy Cars from Norwich. Norwich to Acle you are looking about 20 quid with Courtesy, so pro rata this to Horning. Both also highly recommended.
