  2. Being a member of Facebook at times can have many downsides and having contacts that are friends, this was brought back to me this week, It would have been Mandy Barnes Birthday on the 15th January and Iain's (BroadScot) Birthday today, he would have been 69. Both of you rest in peace
  3. The article shows a good picture of Peter & Andrew Jeckells so locally will be worth their visit to the Boatshow. Regards Alan

  5. Subject: What gender??? A Spanish Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. "House" for instance, is feminine: "la casa." "Pencil," however, is masculine: "el lapiz." A student asked, "What gender is 'computer'?" Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether "computer" should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation. The men's group decided that "computer" should definitely be of the feminine gender ("la computadora"), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic; 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your pay check on accessories for it. (THIS GETS BETTER!) The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ("el computador"), because: 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on 2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves; 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model. The women won!!!!!!!
  6. Updated information from Laura. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Flood Warning For The Tidal River Waveney A Flood Alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the tidal River Waveney from Ellingham and Thorpe St Andrew to Breydon Water. This message has been issued because high water levels are expected due to the natural tide locking caused by high waters at Great Yarmouth, which is restricting the normal drainage out to sea of the Broads system at low tide. High levels in the Broads may last for a few days until the high tides have passed. The situation is not expected to escalate. High water is due at Great Yarmouth at 7:45pm on 16 January 2018. The detailed forecast for those that use it is for a peak level of 1.43mAODN, which is 0.53m above tide tables. The wind forecast is Force 7, west south westerly. (mAODN means height above average sea level, for more info refer to local tide tables). Levels can take several hours to peak in the Broads in response to incoming tidal waters. 12. Hi Steve, Most of the work done at Herbert Woods over winter is very similar to the work undertaken by most of the Syndicate boats on the Broads. Ranworth Breeze is no exception and is currently out of the water. We have had a new cutlass bearing fitted and this week a new bow thruster and tube is being fitted as well as all the other jobs that need to be completed before the season start in March. Regards Alan
  13. Can any of you remember the electric gas pokers, they were supposed to be a safer option. How many of you have lit the fire with paper and sticks and held a sheet of newspaper in front of the fire surround to help draw the fire? Regards Alan
  14. Hello Franzipan90., My advice is to always look at a boat that has a couple of more berths than you require especially when you are talking about a crew of 5 or 6 people. We do not hire on the Broads, we do however hire on the canals and our policy stand u in good stead with additional storage space on the boat. One of the issues on most boats is being able to all sit around a table for a meal, most of the 8 berth boats we have hired have only been big enough to sit our crew of six adult around a table. Regards Alan

  25. Dear All Urgent Boating News - Please note that the Broads Authority will be employing a contractor to do some repair work, a few days on both, on the timber capping at Rockland Staithe and Langley 24hr moorings. There should be minimal inconvenience on site but a small amount of closure will be required during works which are due to take place this month.
