  1. Sorry Keith but no! The cars registered address will be where the police go, nothing to do with the driver. A defective exhaust system needn't be dangerous It might be, but not necessarily so. An electric car making little or no noise is far more of a danger !!!
  2. After my mother died I moved in with my sister. It was ages before I remembered to change the address on my license, but apparently that's a "points offence" and this puts me back on my soap box again. For as long as inappropriate penalties are issued or inappropriate rules are introduced, the law will be considered "a ass". Take the MOT for example. The original purpose of this test was to ensure the road-worthiness of your car. a defective exhaust system does not make your car dangerous, nor does it make your driving dangerous, but it is both an MOT failure and/or can get points put on your license. I'm not saying that the fellow who has xteen points on his license has not been doing things dangerously, but equally we cannot hand on heart say that for all of those points, he has. Was the beak soft, or was he sensible?
  3. Security is the very reason I keep all my valuables on the boat moored next door but one to me. but seriously this is a bit of an issue. Generally speaking I would think there to be few low-lifes who would log on to a broads forum purely to find out holiday dates, and far fewer still who would try to make 50 posts to gain access to the members area, but it only takes one to commit a break-in. My sisters house was burgled a number of years ago, whilst she and her husband were out visiting our father in hospital. It took years for her to get over the incident. It wasn't so much the losses suffered it was the invasion of their privacy, the feeling of defilement and the loss of any feeling of safety in her own home. I am aware that we have new members registering, and some of those do not post. this becomes apparent when the admiral welcomes the "six new members this week" yet we only seem to see posts from one or two. Who are the others? Why did they join? As I say, it only takes one! There are quite a few members here who know my first name, fewer who know my second and very very few who know where I live. It's a horrible thing when you can't feel safe enough not only to give out all that information, but that's the society we live in. A few years ago I lived on the Isle of Man for a while. My car was never locked, nor was the front door of the house. the rule of thumb there was, "If you don't want your car stolen, take the keys out of the ignition.". BLISS.
  4. I've just viewed the above post and not understood a word of it... though it all sounds better than the "yellow snow warning" we had a while back.
  5. This topic comes up from time to time and I have to say that it is with deep regret that feel that not ALL society can be trusted with this information. My house will be empty from...to... and my boat will be unoccupied from... too... It's really sad!
  6. Go from Portsmouth to Cowes and turn right... Why? PS, I'm trying to remember who taught me how to open a beer bottle with a disposable lighter. an invaluable lesson.
  7. I watched Robin's "What to do if you can't find a tin opener" ... Not for those of a nervous disposition.
  8. Trial by forum is not acceptable. Let the courts do the job, they have the evidence, the newspapers do not, and we have even less.
  9. I have no idea how to use a "Freedom of information" request but I wonder how much money will be received compared with last years tolls. whether the savings made by some will balance with the increases paid by others. If it does balance within the scope allowed for for inflation then our arguments will have to be very different from those used if it does not balance. Without that single piece of information, whatever we say is totally meaningless.
  10. I seem to remember the BA having "above inflation" tolls increases for the past few years always saying it was a "one off" for one reason or another. I asked many times whether this years toll review would bring in more money overall or whether it was just a redistribution of the overall rates. Something that was never satisfactorily answered. Mine has gone up 9%
  11. You'd prefer a male queen ?????
  12. Nah nah nee nah nah, Griff's a forum icon...Griff's a forum icon.. Nah nah nee nah nah.
  13. Wine can never replace a meal but makes a wonderful ancillary to it. Both are improved by it's presence. These days I see Facebook in much the same light. OK, I only use it when the forum hits a hitch, it's useful to know what the problem is, but that's just me. I could say that some people drink more wine with their meals than I do. I have no problem with that and they have no problem with me. I like the modification to the thread title, a better reflection of the situation.
  14. Perfectly true Gracie. I have a satnav with a lady's voice telling me to turn right here and turn left there. I'm waiting for her to say... "He looks local, ask him if he knows where it is "
  15. So, I see Jenny Morgan on the mud at Breydon and I see footprints from the boat to the shore. Hmmm Would I go to see where Peter was or would I take loads of pics and post them here..... Hmmmm decisions decisions....,. ...... ....... ................... Sorry Peter..... YEEEEE HAAAAA
  16. I hear no arguments.........................................................sweety
  17. The reason for my question Peter was about "grandfather rights". If I were to buy say Brinks Emperor at 48 feet, and replace the superstructure, would I retain those rights? Then if I were to keep this new superstructure and replace the hull, could I still keep those rights? All a bit Walter Mittyish, but I wondered.
  18. This reminds me of a question I asked a while back but don't think I received an answer. If I take a hull and put new superstructure on it, can it have the same Reg number?
  19. And most of the Ernest Collins hire fleet
  20. It was the " I bet any boats owned by friends of the councillors will be classed as 'aesthetically pleasing' " one I enjoyed. Harsh but fair I suspect, especially at £10 or £15 per foot per year!
  21. One thing that might reduce the amount of GRP that needs to be dealt with could be to repair and re-use the hulls and just scrap the superstructure. Hull design doesn't change that much it's the topsides that carry the fashions. Just a thought!
  22. Ahh, the Fanny Craddock clip I'd like to find is where she made doughnuts, and Jonny's comment at the end (and honest, this is genuine) he held up a plate of doughnuts saying... ..." Well there you are, may all your doughnuts look like Fanny's"
