LizG
Is the one for 4 in West Somerton still open. There appears to be a route around the top bit of the Thurne here? And away from Mr Nog's usual travels?

Delilah
I told Mr N earlier that I though 4 was the Beauchamp Arms. He told me not to be so daft, but it's a guess after all. Linda x
Gracie
Good morning Linda You tell Mr Nog from me not to call you daft or I shall have to sort him out Lol I wish someone would get the fourth one, I'm itching for the next instalment from Jay Grace
NorfolkNog
I am struggling to think of a pub with a piano and as a (very bad) amateur musician I would have spotted the guitars as would Mrs N Think JF has come up with a good one there Sorry Grace, I am thinking honest!

Guest
Well done gorgeous it certainly is Thursday 12th April Another grey damp day began in Brundall with a heavy mist hanging over the water. As I sat with a coffee thinking where I would go today I knew the plan was to go look at the places inaccessible to me or very difficult to time the visit correctly when travelling on the boat. It seemed to be an obvious choice therefore to head above Potter Heigham bridge to visit up Hickling and Horsey way. After another coffee, I set off travelling through Acle, Martham and West Somerton to reach the Nelsons Head in Horsey. I forgot to mention yesterday Brundall to Coltishall: By Car - 25 minutes By Boat - 10 hours Brundall to Horsey By Car - 30 minutes By Boat - 8.5 hours Honestly, I would take the longer slower trip by boat anyday. After a swift diet coke I headed off to Horsey Gap, paid the £3 for two hours parking and headed along beach, messing in the sand and watching the rough sea coming in. It wasn't long before I came across a large collection of the seals, I tried to get a decent picture but as I had the dog couldn't get too close. After a beachfront walk we returned to the car and set off for The Pleasure Boat Inn at Hickling Broad having a brief drive by on the way past Horsey Windpump (not my kind of thing but there you go) Martham Staithe, and St Mary's church in Martham. Reaching the Pleasure Boat I had a walk up the Staithe to look out on the broad. With the mist over the water still visibility was limited although there were a few boats pottering around on the water. A quick diet coke in the pub I then visited The Greyhound at Hickling with it's lovely fire burning, so I had a warm beside it for a short while before commencing the return leg to Brundall which just happens to pass the Bridge Inn at Acle. It seemed rude not to pop in and offer my custom, unfortunately it was just another diet coke on this occasion, I must remember to make up for that on a future visit. Seeing as I hadn't travelled by boat I wasn't surprised to find the moorings almost deserted Back to the boat it was time for some good old PT around the roads of Brundall, Blofield and Blofield Heath before settling down after a cold shower (I forgot to switch the water heater on) to a glass of wine or two and catching up on the days messages and events. MauriceMynah
I thought High6 was going to get that, I thought it would be cheating if I had said, it is after all my mooring!

SwanR
We visited The Pleasure Boat Inn and Hickling Broad by car ourselves last summer when we were staying at the caravan. Will have to add Horsey Gap to my list for this year. Enjoying seeing your photos Jay ... are you finding that arriving by car is just not the same as arriving by boat? :)

grendel
I would think there are plusses and minuses, in the car the travel times between pubs are quicker - but on the flip side he has to drink soft drinks.

Enjoying seeing your photos Jay ... are you finding that arriving by car is just not the same as arriving by boat? :) Thank you, oh absolutely it's no contest, travelling by boat is by far superior, whilst I managed to visit Hickling Broad for example I completely missed the journey along the river to get there, and that is just as enjoyable, if not more so than the destination. 6 minutes ago, grendel said: I would think there are plusses and minuses, in the car the travel times between pubs are quicker - but on the flip side he has to drink soft drinks. I guess so, personally I don't really see the travel time as a negative on the boat, but then I do enjoy cruising all day. Others I guess don't want such a long journey so would see it as a positive. Thanks everyone
grendel
having hired Jayne from martham boats for the may meet, I am hoping to be able to cruise that section on the Monday, prior to returning the boat on Tuesday morning
