SwanR
It’s the taking part not the winning. Sounds like it was a nice day Jay. Enjoy the warm weather and sunshine.
Guest Jayfire
Quite right Jean, and sometimes by just risking it and having a go you find it was the right choice anyway It's another beautiful morning, long cruising planned today, I just wish someone was here to make me a coffee so I could begin to start my day

Guest Jayfire
Wednesday 29th July Part 1 Another leisurely morning sat with a coffee in the sunshine eventually led me to depart the Hoveton moorings at about 1015 It was the most perfect weather to enjoy one of the most tranquil and scenic parts of the broads, and I cruised slowly along enjoying both the scenery and some wonderful company I wasn't alone as I travelled along the river with boats, canoeist's, paddlers etc all enjoying the morning... ...it certainly beats being stuck in a meeting I know that. I was on the lookout for a kingfisher to shoot (with a camera) but whilst seeing a couple I didn't manage to take a picture in time, but onwards I continued... And finally reached Coltishall by 1145, so obviously it was off to the pub... ...which was very busy in the garden and eerily quiet inside due to the circumstances. Very good system in operation though, and everyone maintained their distances respectfully So I sat with a beer or 2 enjoying my surroundings and more of the wonderful company I had around

Guest Jayfire
Wednesday 29th July Part 2 It was time to head back down to Wroxham at 1345 to time low water for the bridge clearance. I had been surprised to hear someone I hadn't expected had never travelled this stretch of the river to Coltishall, something we may have to put right sometime. Nevertheless I tried to take as many snaps as possible to show it off in all it's glory....still no Kingfisher pics though There was a family enjoying the river and having a paddle whilst others were "busy" fishing And on the return journey I took a quick detour around Bridge Broad... Before returning to the main river and continuing on though the bridge in the baking sun And on my way along the Bure... It had just gone 1630 when I reached Horning... ...and I found there was one space left that if you squinted and held your breath, was JUST big enough for me to get in. Really really squinted 😃 And so I went for a walk up to The Ferry Inn, via The New Inn Before returning to the boat to relax before bed
grendel
those kingfishers are tricky to photograph, all i have seen this week are blue streaks dissapearing upstream or downstream, never seen one sitting, except for last year, a cheeky kingfisher was sat in the wetshed at stalham, it disappeared when i tried to get the camera, and after five minutes looking I turned to find it sitting on the pulpit rail of the boat behind, just 6 foot away, of course as I turned it was off again. SwanR
The only time we’ve been down to Coltishall was the one trip we made back in the 90s before you ever needed a pilot to take you through. It’s another one on my day boat list!
Guest Jayfire
I have got one Kingfisher pic, shared elsewhere, but I'm hoping you can see more soon
