Jbx5
Whilst out on the canal the other day our neighbour was having a bit of trouble with his bow thruster making a noise, on inspection he found an eel had Found its way into it. Breydon
I hope it was still fresh. Delicious either stewed or jellied!
ChrisB
Smoked eel is my favorite way like the Dutch or fried in garlic and butter with artichokes like the French. However a pot of jellied with white pepper and a little malt vinegar and bread and butter is very tasty.
Guest
Ah, so that's why there are so few eels around these days. Time to ban 'bow thrusters' I think...
Turnoar
Eels like electricity, the thruster was probably too powerful to resist, looks terminal!

But, I think that one was being a tad over ambitious...

Vaughan
I would call it "canal kill".
JennyMorgan
Would have thought it would have emerged thin sliced as a salami might have been.
MauriceMynah
I have to say that "Eel in the thruster" sounds like a best seller in the gay erotic section of Waterstones.

Wyndham
Eels are horrible, listen to me kids, don't be fooled by those trying to tell you otherwise. They're a marmite fish. My Mum loved them, jellied....yuck!!! Now the stuff they facilitate poured on Pie and Mash...Mmmmm that's lovely.

oldgregg
We chopped one up with Commodore 1 a few years back at Neatishead... Managed to stall the engine doing it!

It wasn't huge, but we think it had gone into the strenthruster tunnel when it was in use and the resistance on that hydraulic motor had caused the engine to stall. Whether it was the prop or the thruster, there we two halves of a pike floating in the dyke afterwards...
Baitrunner
Ah so it went in as an eel and came out as 2 halves of a pike! The magic stern thruster. How can you get a Pike when I struggle to catch them?

How cannot anybody like a nice plate of jellied eels? Whichever way I will relish them. By the way ChrisB, smoked eel is a real delicacy, I love 'em whichever way they are served. Mouth watering now, lucky I have bought some mussels this afternoon at the local market to turn into moule mariniere. Lovely with some nice seedy wholemeal bread.
ChrisB
Cley Smokehouse used to do smoked eel. I am in Cley most weeks, I must give them a visit. Their smoked roe is wonderful as well.
