Jan/Feb Anglia Afloat

It landed on the mat this morning and I had a quick flick through and saw the picture on page 114-does anybody know where this is? Rubbish picture attached!

Well that certainly looks like Norwich cathedral in the background, so I can only assume it is beyond Bishop Bridge. If it is, then quite what a hire boat is doing up there is a mystery.

I did think it must be Norwich but the hire boat threw me!

I think the photo is taken from Fye Bridge - between the Ribs of Beef and The Mischief.

The boat looks like a Sheerline 950 and I think there may be one of these in a shared ownership scheme which could explain its presence here! Also they would be a popular buy if offloaded by any of the hirefleets so may be a privately owned vessel.

 

I'd LOVE one of those!

Who knows that the boat was actually there in the original photo? It may have been "added" at a later stage

Mike is right, Fye Bridge, looking downstream.

 

I don't think the boat has been photo-shopped on, the shadow and lighting are very expertly matched if it is...

Even if there is a Hoseasons logo on the bow, it still might be private, or is there some physical reason why the boat couldn't be there?

That's true JTF, I have seen several privateers with the Hoseasons logo still showing.

Well having never passed the yacht station and seeing its possible next year could be the year!

I've never cruised up there before, but from what I have heard the only slightly iffy bit is Bishop Bridge itself. I don't think there is a height gauge and the depth needs to be watched.

Yeah, there was something I read fairly recently about a Silverline boat being crewed (by Silverline) on a trip to the centre for something a bit tourismy.

 

Was it something connected to making more of Norwich's river by tourism/council peeps?

 

Rings a bell as something like that, so I would think the photo comes from that trip, rather than mischevious hirers or it being ex hire

Where would you be able to moor through there?

Iv'e fancied doing that trip but tales of shopping trolleys etc put me off!

Could you moor outside Zacs for a takeaway?

I've been through to the end of navigation and i can say that there are No Public Moorings, that's not to say that theres nowhere to moor.

If anyone does plan a trip along, be aware that if you go further than premiere inn there isnt any good turning points and youll hit a dead end just past the cock bridge ( i think thats the name of it).

Been up to just a few metres short of New Mills twice now, fantastic trips, turning okay with 27 feet. You can moor at the Ribs of Beef (just).

The vid by Lord Paul was very interesting... now I just need to get London Rascal onboard Friday Girl one sunny day, when he's en-route Stalham, and see what results he can produce!

(And he can drive us back to Riverside after the Ribs of Beef!)
