  1. Proper job Robin - congratulations! 3000 litres eh? You'll need a long dipstick for that one!
  2. Didn't something very similar happen to the white bikes in Amsterdam back in the 'good old days'? Lovely ideas in theory that fell apart once the general public became involved.
  3. No Worries is a Bounty/Elysian 27AC, with everything down I measured her at 6'4" - if either of the bridges is under 6'6" it's a swift U-turn I'm afraid.
  4. I think I remember it was Strowager, possibly on the other side, who posted a full survey of the bridges, complete with annotated photographs. ISTR the measurements are taken from a couple of feet off the centre line.
  5. I 'my sure we saw a height marker somewhere near the Burgh Castle moorings last year - maybe at the entrance to the basin?
  6. I'm with Snowy on this - I always reckon it's been a good crossing if you have to clear seaweed off the foredeck afterwards, but then I'm strange - I used to race a Dragon on the lumpy stuff.
  7. Some years ago I was on detached duty at Heathrow, put up in the Heathrow Hilton. At about ten to seven the bar started emptying of air crew and hostesses who made their way upstairs to a glassed lounge overlooking the main runway. We asked the barman what was going on - "Seven o'clock Concorde going off" was the reply. Just goes to show the depth of feeling for the aircraft, even amongst hard-bitten airline professionals.
  8. The Walberswick /Southwold ferry seems to manage quite well with oars and she has a bit more tide to cope with.
  9. I can remember when a two course meal at the Ferry was when you got mustard on your pork pie, back when it was an establishment I'd cross the river to visit.
  10. Theoretically all dogs are now microchip pedestrians by law - ours is but many don't seem to be!
  11. Don't forget a good splash of Brut Robin!
  12. I'm with Vanessan on this - if a mooring is where I want to be I have no problem with paying for it. What I absolutely won't do is pay for a pub mooring unless there is a full refund on your meal/bar bill! (We don't stop often downstream of Wroxham bridge f' rinstance.)
  13. Some years ago I had a call from No. 1 stepson, a 6' tall hairy bottomed docker who can crack walnuts with his eyebrows, "Andy, can you get my socket set from the shelf at the back of my garage?" "Sure Pete, where do you want it taking to?", thinking he was broken down somewhere. "I'm in my front garden - there's a $€¥¥¢¢¢¤ tarantula sitting on it looking at me!" He is only a mile away so I rescued him willingly - not let him forget about it though!
  14. Lol Trambo- in our house and on board, spiders are always called Boris!
  15. There used to be a liveaboard MTB at Woodbridge, the owner sold the original engines to finance the conversion and put a pair of (I think) big Cats in. He had permission to open her up between Waldringfield and Bawdsey on a few winter days when most of the trot moorings were empty. I did have a 35mm slide of her at full chat taken from the Waldingfield Maybush garden!
  16. Bryan_ Waveney Stardust moors in the services basin at Broadsedge opposite us all good ol' boys. Thanks for the yarn, when I hired (granted at the cheaper end of the market) I had a 'useful bag' with a leather man, duct tape, WD40 and all sorts of bodgery bits.
  17. Something very similar used to occur at Stracey Arms, Acle turn and back I was told. Of course I'd never indulge in such practices.
  18. You can now get scented two stroke oil, sort of strawberryish but nothing beats the sweet smell of Castrol R30 in the morning!
  19. Charlie_ especially going up to the Golden Key at Snape!
  20. Many years ago there was a range on the cliffs South of Lowestoft, Benacre/Kessingland way. (JM would know) A dog walker on the beach a good mile or more beyond the butts got in the way of a high flying. 303 from a Lee Enfield. I think the range closed soon after.
  21. A couple of years ago we were heading down towards Acle Bridge when we saw one of Clive's finest wearing what must have been a 3 yard white ensign. After a quick briefing to Kathy in the stern we dipped our red - to my pleasure a junior rate scuttled to their stern and responded. Big thumbs up all round. We met them later in the week at Sutton and a few tots and waxers were had with the Lt. Commander in charge. Happy days!
  22. I can confirm Snowy's pic is the real one - it lived in the Queens warehouse compound at Felixstowe for some time after it was seized.
