  1. I am 6'4" and still struggle to get up to the forward bunks in Water Rail, but she is lovely all the same, once in the bunk, its comfortable.
  2. I think some of the broads businesses are still trying to get accustomed to this new fangled telephony lark, let alone computers, emails and social media, some still work in the era of face to face discussions.
  3. at beccles wooden boat show we had 3 boats plugged into a post on an outlet that had £10 credit left on it, strange as the instructions are clear on how to deposit the excess credit back onto the card, that kept 3 boats going all weekend.

    Mobile Wifi

with the O2 package I found it cheaper to go into an O2 shop and buy the sim, as online as a top up it was more expensive.

    Mobile Wifi

I now have 2 huawei mobile wifi hubs, one is on O2 where I can ger a 12Gb PAYG sim for around £60, this generally has good coverage on the broads and the sim lasts a full 12 months, recently however I found that three offer a 20Gb PAYG sim for a similar price that lasts for 24 months, now I dont know what the 3 coverage is like on the broads, I know O2 has a problem at Lodden and at Rockland- at low tide you drop out of reception, this was one of the reasons I got a new mifi unit, which has 2 external antenna that can be sat somewhat higher than the unit (up to 3m away)-(this was the Huawei E5785 LTE Mobile Wifi Mobile Hotspot E5785Lh-22c 300 Mbit/S 2 X Aerial) I did also buy 2 magnetic mount remote aerials to go with this, the standard aerial literally plugs into the side of the unit.
  6. I believe that I would have been diagnosed as dyslexic if I had been schooled nowadays, I could write long essays and read them through to myself and they made perfect sense, yet when they came back from marking, whole sentences and paragraphs could be missing, yet I had clearly checked the work and read them in while checking, for my brain they were there, even if I had just thought I had written them, thus nowadays i am at the mercy of the built in spoil chucker that comes in all software these days. My problem was despite this I managed to get into a Grammar school and pass exams, and we have found the same with my daughter, who was actually diagnosed as dyslexic once she attended university. she like me read voraciously when younger, so because we had a good reading ability the problem was masked, to this day I still get my i before e's muddled.
  7. or alternatively in a plastic tag on the safety cord, which all these vessels should have.
  8. presumably like all other craft they should be tolled and display a registration number?
  9. intrigued now, will Polly be in the messerschmitt ?
  10. I still think that after passing under a bridge fine once, some new inexperienced people might forget to check the clearance next time, after all you go under a bridge in your car, it doesnt suddenly get lower the next time you go through, I found the first few trips on the broads I was too busy concentrating on going in a straight line and didnt always see the speed limit signs, its easily done if you are not thinking about it, a minor lapse in attention, and I bet 90% of the times it happens people get away with it and think, ooh that was a lot closer this time than last.
  11. yes the one at coltishall is excellent
  12. the easy mistake to make is to assume that because you came one way and got under the bridge that you can go through again, and just not have to think about it or check the clearance every time. a moments inattention and probably easily done if every other bridge you have come across has been so.
  13. they are in my staples boat food crate, along with instant mash and tins of beans and sausages, great if nothing better presents itself for cooking or eating.
  14. water rail with her 21 hp 3 cylinder Nanni is lucky if her tank is 45 litres, however she does use less than a litre an hour, so a gallon every 4.5-5 hours cruising, I used a lot last time when I had her out for 11 days, I must have bought £70 of fuel while aboard, of course she was nearly empty when I picked her up, and near full when I left.
  15. when we are on lads week we have been known to raft up, 2 abreast at Ludham, but at stokesby ferry we managed to fit 3 boats into a gap not really big enough for one. but that was at sunset in our defence and there was no way we would have made acle.
  16. we managed it with several boats in the middle of Barton Broad once, all rafted up and drifted while the ice creams were served
  17. counter rotating props, once the rope gets round both they will wind in toward each other, presumably the rope being tight at one side helped stop that prop shaft bending inwards, but transferred it all to the other one. A timely reminder to check your lines before reversing.
  18. I can see one prop shaft is toast, but did it take out both of them?
  19. another high quality wooden boat here - https://norfolk.boatshed.com/herbert_woods_delight_class-boat-304314.html#boatmedia-114
  20. I agree, Stunning, hopefully if we can get Water rail looking even close to that, we will be happy.
  21. cut out the baked beans and brussels sprouts and you will be guaranteed only 2 of those weather conditions.
  22. It was no longer sporting its green camoflage when I saw it the other week
  23. ah, i see, sometimes it uses the roundabout in british fashion, giving unsettled weather, sometimes in continental fashion, giving a good summer.
  24. its probably something like yacht varnish, just lots and lots of coats, if its any consolation Water Rails mast seems to have used something similar, and that took a lot of sanding to remove to get back to the wood. Tough stuff, but once it starts peeling it all needs to come off and be replaced.
