  1. So what should the classic wooden broads cruiser be wearing this season? Not what can she wear or is/not entitled to wear, but more a question wondering if there is etiquette or legislation concerning inland cruising.
  2. I think we managed to take part...
  3. Could I suggest that those of us taking a boat from the broads or opting to not launch next season because of the tolls please write to the BA and clearly tell them why. We have already told each other what we think but we do need to tell them in power. Nothing will ever change if the hands doing the feeding don't bite back! Make sure to copy to your MP and anyone else relevant as well.
  4. Ah but Peter, I haven't finished yet. I thought we could leave the money saved by the lesser dredging policy in the account to buffer the shortfall and, just to make sure, the SOB will offer bird watching trips across Breydon thus reducing its burden on the purse. See, now you know I'm losing it...
  5. We have all commented on our ex hire boat having its name on all the bunk boards, bottom of drawers, cushions etc. That's because it was all removed and stored safe for the winter. This allowed the maximum air movement through the cabins and therefore minimum damage while the boat is out of use. I just mention it because we are all aware of antifreeze and tank draining needs but perhaps haven't considered other areas.
  6. If I had my way hire boats would be free of tolls completely and the saving passed onto the hirers either in reduced charges or some free diesel so that they maybe get about more without worrying about fuel costs as much. Anything that stimulates the industry is good news in my book. What we need is a hug a hire boat day!
  7. I think Freddie Laker had something to do with that...
  8. Sink? Surely just floating lower than intended!
  9. We found two slats glued together make excellent sail battons for the enterprises! I reckon some cut to half your planking width will make excellent spoiling boards for when you come to plank the fwd end? Throughly enjoying your project
  10. It's normally the nut that holds the steering wheel you have to keep an eye on!
  11. A couple of years ago I 'escorted' two hire boats from Wroxham to Salhouse after dark. Wroxham was absolutely sardined and none of us were getting under the bridge to the completely empty moorings the other side due to extremely high tides. I got them to put torches on their roofs. We had all got caught out. It was far safer to take them to somewhere safe using my lights than leave them to blunder about in the pitch black. I did wonder about mudweight on Wroxham broad but we all had dogs on board... I think the increasing lack of moorings is more the issue here
  12. There's nothing wrong with spam. Battered, deep fried and served with chips and peas.... yum! If you have more than you can handle, hold a forum meet and we will all pop round and have a forum nosh up. Hope this helps....
  13. I'm having 'Come on baby light my fire' as the curtains in the crem close.

  15. Been through it with less light than that trying to beat the tide. Saves closing your eyes though...
  16. Brilliant. Thanks everyone. There is, of course, more available so keep those orders coming. Our next stage will be to submit the pictures for voting on. Because time is a bit short this year we are going to get a week to submit them and then a week to vote so watch this space for updated news flashes. Now I'm not clever enough to do the software thing that makes it happen and the tech team are worked off their keyboards at the minute with all this server change stuff so I cant give you an exact date for voting yet, but I will make sure everyone has as much notice as I can. I am told that the picture with the most votes is used for the front cover followed by the 12 that you all choose accordingly. I hope there will be a couple of Christmas ones... Not for the calender of course, just to wind old Pesky up (its only October)
  17. Seeings as there is no restriction of use on private boats I would suggest that some vessels easily match days out and about of an average hire boat. Its the hire boats that keep the pubs and broads based facilities going - well you know what I mean. Perhaps a more careful spend of the toll revenue would allow the hire boat multiplier to be reduced without costing the private boaters the shortfall?
  18. Would that saving be passed on to the hirer? If so then I am all for it!
  19. One or two in here may still be out there http://oldcarservices.co.uk/chrome-silver-nickel-plating/
  20. Sunday is always a good day to order a calendar.... Just a few more and we can start enjoying all those lovely pictures you have ready to submit!
