  1. Apart from believing that Spokesman refers to both sexes as it always used to. so I will still refer to chairman not chairpersons and definitely not a chair. The EDP appears to have no editors these days, when they started repeating the same article on the same page I gave up with it.
  2. Not much a chance of us noticing 3/4 mile down. Also TV put a map of the shale gas areas, the Broads wasn't one of them...
  3. Unfortunately Diesel doesn't seem to have gone down, so in the summer I'll still be running vegetable oil. I'm sure RiyadhCrew will be along to tells how much it is in Saudi, 16 years ago, I know it was cheaper than water by the litre!!
  4. My brother in law was a miner at Bo'ness on the Firth of Forth (south side 14 miles from Edinburgh) when they closed the pit he went to work at Longannet pit, north side 32 miles by road from Edinburgh). however when he got there he often spent the time working back where they used to, as the pits were connected under the Forth. it is possible to put tunnels on the Seabed, I think is was in Boston USA where they dropped prefabricated tunnel sections onto the seabed connected them up and had a tunnel with no digging required ( except where they met the land)
  5. I'd certainly agree with this the bins are normally full all summer and often not far off it in the winter.
  6. If it's the disco variety then, Generally I've found the Santa cruises slighty, but only slightly less deafening than the summer cruises when standing on the bank nearby. The particular boat shown has its speakers pointing out to the shore !!!
  7. I wonder why I live in North Norfolk.... Oh I know it's not in a built up area and other than that it's the cheapest area of Norfolk.. and I wouldn't have been able to afford it back then Had I not spent 6 Years working in Saudi... Not exactly news as I bought the house in 1999...
  8. I've just been reading abut a similar downpour that affected the area between Aylsham and Norwich in 1912, there was a train stuck at Aylsham for 7 weeks due to the floods and damage to the track. I know that the terraced houses between the recruiting Sergeant and the bridge at Horstead were under 4 feet of water at the time and the lower end of Prince of Wales road in Norwich was flooded. Over 40 Bridges were destroyed at the time as well. So this sort of Weather has been around for a long time...
  9. I've just bought a triple light switch and pattress today and have a large quantity of cable and lots of lights to fit. I hope they work a bit better than Rudolphs
  10. Oh good, I'll be living on an island like it was in Roman times, Oh 2100, I'll be dead on an Island like it was in Roman times
  11. To do that properly, as I have seen on Swan green, you need a bath tub hire boat moored between the offender and the bank..
  12. I used to use a battery electric shaver, but two in to weeks going for a swim costs too much...( I was getting out of my sailing boat with the wash kit wrapped up in a towel while heading for the Sailing club shower block...) so I've wet shaved ever since, and none of them took a flying leap into the water..
  13. I'd certainly admit Sheffield grinds to a halt with a little snow, SWMBOs Aunt and uncle lived on a 1 in 3 in Rotherham which was not gritted and it was a bus route!! The buses are regularly cancelled in the winter as cars slide down the hill all wheel locked.
  14. Nope, nor will I, but then its a landrover 110 with all terrain tyres anyway!! The wind is beginning to rattle around here now 50 to 60 forecast for here tonight/ tomorrow.
  15. I would definitely agree with that as the current Horning sailing club building is missing and that was opened in 1963.
  16. No, locomotives or Diesel Multiple Units, have never been fitted with a blowers, they are fitted with sand tubes. that is when a locomotive or DMU has wheel slip, sand is released to enable them to regain grip. However Steam locos has wheels generally between 4 and 6 feet in diameter. whereas a DMU they are around 3 ft in diameter, so a lot more spin has happened before regaining grip hence the damage. A DMU driving carriage weighs around 30 tons A steam loco of the type that would have pulled equivalent amount of carriages may have weighed 60 tons

  18. When I was out there the contract I was on covered medical expenses. However If his contract doesn't I doubt it would cost more, remember there are almost no taxes in Saudi and most of the back up staff are far eastern Cheap labour. Here's a list of prices for many things out there http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Saudi+Arabia&displayCurrency=GBP
  19. If you can get it in a position to have it able to be swung round for the 3 rivers race turning point a lot of people would be happy!
  20. Having been on Benbecula in the outer Hebrides in a 3 story steel framed barrack block looking down on the Met office windspeed meter when it recorded 126 mph. I thought this Storm was vastly over hyped just because they've started naming them. Walking down the corridor in the barrack block you could hear the water sloshing in the loos as the building swayed. The BBC had a reporter standing in the rain at Ullapool. Trying to make something of it.
  21. Something my employer doesn't pay me enough for, as it gets in the way of broads time. Just over eight years to go now...
  22. I spent many holidays as a child down at Weymouth which I liked along with much of the south coast from Southampton through to Lyme Regis. I suppose the nearest down that way to the broads would be Pool harbour 14 square miles of water but much of it is shallower than the broads. You could trundle around the harbour and up a bit of the four rivers. But I think I'll stick to the broads much cheaper and more interesting
  23. Now I haven.t been following this but who went for a burton?
  24. I think the draft might be a little too deep for Black Horse broad...
