  1. My Dad was killed in an accident at work when I was 8 months in 1961, and Graham's 18 year old cousin in 1978, both on the railway, so we are all for health and safety too.
  2. Have a good time Malcolm. Looking forward to seeing some drone shots on MS.
  3. That’s good news. The churchyard did look well cared of when we visited. Glad to hear it you were able to get in.
  4. The Hoylake one is RNLI, as it featured in at least a couple of the ‘Rescue at Sea’ series. In one, they rescued a horse at had got stuck.
  5. We’re you able to get to the church? Last time Graham and I went there (Feb 2020, just before lockdown) it was padlocked. That was unusual for Norfolk churches that are normally very welcoming.
  6. They’ve also got one at Hoylake on the tip of the Wirral peninsula for use on mud/sand flats.
  7. Well, maybe they didn't have anyone who could look after their rabbit whilst they are away. I've heard of kennels and catteries, but not 'rabbiteries'.
  8. I was going to post a p.s. - ‘where is the dog?’ but have just spotted him. Is this like a ‘where’s Wally?’ thread? So will we get tantalising glimpse of ‘Where’s Danni?’ each time you post?
  9. Was that the Horning St Benedict’s Staithe in one of your photos? Lovely mooring, but the last couple of times we stopped there it was very slippery. Such an idyllic mooring though. We haven’t yet managed an overnight mooring there. Bucket list…
  10. Was there once a ferry there?
  11. Beautiful photos. That one of a Hunters yacht could probably be a winner in their annual photo competition, and maybe even sneak into the calendar they produce each year, especially as you've managed to capture a really good shot where the sailor has his fenders on deck.
  12. We moored at a ‘wild’ mooring at Acle during the 2019 august bank holiday week. It’s within sight of the old Pedro’s moorings and very close to the speed limit sign. Lovely! You can access the public footpath and it is very peaceful.
  13. Wishing you all the best Marina. Hope you recover quickly from the surgery.
  14. I am surprised at some of the comments above. I’m assuming that comments were made without the linked article being read in detail. It’s always tempting to skim read. The original article did state that their engine had broken down. Sounds like they acted very responsibly. On a slight tangent…reminded me of Tom in Coots Club!
  15. I shouldn’t think there would be any problem mooring there. We’ve moored at Acle on the free BA moorings on the opposite bank back in November and again in February and we didn’t spot any ‘no mooring’ signs or anything like that. I’ve no idea whether there is anyone still collecting fees from the Pedro’s moorings. The Free BA moorings on the opposite bank are in much better condition anyway, so given a choice they would be my first option.
  16. You’re right, we didn’t spot them…where are they?
  17. Slightly off topic for Norfolk, but our SatNav (we call her ‘Shirley’…don’t ask me why, it’s Graham’s fault) often has us in stitches. She calls ‘Bicester’ Bi-cester, rather than ‘Bister’, as it’s usually known, and as we are travelling down the M1 she often asks us (randomly) to turn off at Junction 12 to ‘Flit-wick’ (pronounced Flitick). On the way up to North Wales up the M6, she tries to direct us to ‘Norwich’ when we are passing the exit that leads to Northwich. Well that one at least makes sense…she’s obviously got it into her head/data that we always travel to Norfolk on a longer journey.
  18. The problem with todays ‘equal opportunities’ recruitment practices, that instruct the manager to go with whoever ‘performs’ best in the interview and other ‘tests’, is that you tend to get people who perform well in those circumstances but aren’t necessarily the best people to actually do the job. Seems that having the skill set to do well in job selection is what’s needed nowadays.
  19. Absolutely agree with you on that one.
  20. Wow Neil, congrats on getting your own boat. As always, I’m sure there will be lots of things to discover about the boat. There always are with any boat. Wishing you all the best, Helen
  21. How would you know? anyway, I’m concerned that the guys emptying the containers didn’t think to pick up the detritus. If they won’t, who will? Kind hearted volunteers?
  22. Yes, lots of moorings at Womack. The BA moorings along the Dyke as you approach Hunter’s Yard, the BA ‘hidden’ island moorings and then Womack Staithe which is a parish mooring (stern-on mooring) with a moderate overnight charge. We prefer the BA moorings as we find stern on a bit ‘sardine’ like. We know lots of people who love the staithe moorings though. Hope you have a wonderful time. The bakery that has been mentioned is in a cottage on Horsefen Lane between Hunters Yard the staithe. When they are open they have a board beside the lane advertising what delights they have on offer that day.
  23. Oh no! I hope that doesn't mean that we are scuppered for our Moonlight Shadow holiday the second week of May!
  24. Be careful if you moor in the dyke that leads to the entrance of Rowan craft, as the ground is pretty uneven. It's one of our favourite moorings though and fairly peaceful despite there being a campsite on the opposite bank.
  25. I don’t think you’ve done that much sewing Andrew. This morning I managed to break two needles on my overlocker machine. No stress? I’m trying to make a sweatshirt for my cousin, so doubly stressful trying to complete a garment not for me. I still haven’t worked out what’s causing the problem either. Oh err!
