  5. Hello Simon, If you only want to go a short distance then I would suggest the Ferry House Inn Surlingham (you had better book a mooring and a table) or at Brammerton Green or outside the Waters Edge (book a mooring and a table). Further afield you could visit Loddon and moor in the staithe, there are four pubs to choose from, alternatively you could moor at the Reedham Ferry (you can book a mooring outside of the pub). Please let us know how you get on. Regards Alan
  6. Hello Twosaints welcome to the NBN forum. Regards Alan
  7. We advise all forum members not to show their registrations due to car cloning, a make, colour and the registration can be all that is needed for cloning. Regards Alan

  10. You can fall foul at times changing over from a hand pump toilet to an electric one if the boat's plumbing was not designed for one, they can use a lot more water and are prone to the macerator being clogged up with thicker toilet paper and any kind of wipes. We used to have problems with standard toilets until we changed to smooth walled pipes (the ribbed type are best replaced). We only come across electric toilets when we hire Narrow Boats sometimes they fit different types of toilets aboard, one such hire we had to have one of the toilet tanks pumped out after 3 days because of the amount of water it used, the other toilet on that boat lasted all week. Regards Alan
  11. I am sure at one time there were visitor mooring and a water hose point on the opposite side from Barnes Brinkcraft, sadly not available for a good few years. The lack of moorings for Private boats before the bridge is a problem and it is also an issue, not having good waiting moorings for the Bridge Pilot, the space just in front of the bridge is hardly ideal. Regards Alan

  14. Hi Monica, Tan also does lists. You can pick up a small 600 watt oil filled radiator from Roys. Regards Alan
  15. Hello Malc, It is good to see you posting again after you joined the forum last year and that your plan is coming together. As others have said hire a couple of boats to see what best suits your future needs. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Ian we went on the Caledonian Canal around a similar time to you, the locks at Laggan had collapsed so we could only go on Loch Long and Lock Ness. The locks did not operate on Sunday so we could go no where after picking the boat up on Saturday until Monday morning. The locks now have to be walked through going by the programmes I have seen, back then someone had to be on the boat with the engine running, our 25 foot steel hulled cruiser seemed very small in these ship sized locks. These days there are pontoon moorings on the side of the canal, when we there were very few moorings, there were some moorings buoys on the lower end of Loch Ness that you could use, we did use one and floated around it , myself and Sharon (who was only baby were the only ones not feel sick, Tan, Heather and Chris were well under the weather. Loch Ness can be like a mill pond one minute and like the sea in an other. It was a great holiday none the less and we keep it in mind again for our bucket list. If you can find the time to call in at Falkirk on the journey it is well worth the effort just to see the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel. Regards Alan
  17. Hello Bexs, There was still baths available the last time we were at the Yacht Station . Regards Alan
  18. I can put our canopy while Tan is still doing the left & right hand down a bit on the upper helm, if we encounter too much rain. Regards Alan
  19. I wondered when Blackpool had become a National Park and why they make Kendal Mint Cake! Regards Alan
  20. I saw something like this last year, it was mostly set in Canada showing various floating home and the problems that could be encountered bad design to some which were the perfect homes on various lakes. There was a lot about the building, moving and positioning of these floating homes. As you have said it was interesting. Regards Alan
  21. Hello Peter, I can remember the Oulton Broads facilities being upgraded about 3 years ago (no doubt it will be longer than that). Regards Alan
  22. About 4 or 5 years ago we were told that there was a plan in the pipeline to build a new block attached to the Yacht Station for boaters to use toilets and showers. The old public toilet/shower block is well past its sell by date many of the fittings do not work and talking to a number of women many of them regard the facilities as being dirty, unhygienic and they would rather not use them. What are your thoughts regarding the above facilities? Regards Alan
  23. Hello Paul, A tip for a noisy or stiff pump handle on a Jabsco pump. Under the handle unscrew the large plastic nut to give you access to the top of the pump tube, pour in about half a teaspoon of vegetable oil (any type will do), this will lubricate the dried out piston. We always have a spare pump assembly aboard as part of our spares and as you say a short time to fit, six screws on the housing to remove and the water intake/output pipes jubilee clips, job done. Regards Alan
  24. Hi John, I have just had a thought, if you have any pink stains on your seating this is a result of mildew, as above it can be killed but you can not remove the pink stains. The mildew usually gets into the seating because the seating sponge soaks up any water, we had this happen by water seeping through a press stud in the canopy, we didn't know where the water was coming from until we were sat under the canopy in the rain and Tan was holding her empty coffee mug when a drip of water fell into her mug, followed by many more. A little bit of magic putty in the press stud hole sorted the problem. Regards Alan
