  1. Nice example of Lawn order there WF PS. wear a hat ! Sent from my steam driven tower PC
  2. I was aware of the Shadows connection Vaughan, it's just that I'm a jazz freak and prefer Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. Tony Meehan was good, and a touch more recent, the drummer out of Dire Straits (Terry Williams I think) when they did their "Sultans of Swing" live for Alchemy. I just love a good bit of drumming. Sent on my tin can with knotted string
  3. I'm sure the ducks felt honoured to be shot at by him. Sent on my apache war drum being played by Buddy Rich
  4. When I was a kid, mum & dad used to take my sister and I down to Chalkwell beach to get the "sunburn stage" over and done with for the year. 2 days of hell then fine till next summer. Things were different back then. ! Sent on my twin bongo drums with a broken stick.
  5. No Gracie, not the wrong word given that I hate the idea of that poor dog being cruelly treated ( another recent thread) and that the word hate is totally appropriate. It's just that I cannot think of any "normal" human activity that I dislike to the extent of hatred. ( just for the sake of Timbo, I will point out that it is the activity I refer to as "normal", not the human.) My view of badly behaved children covers anywhere that they are, when I'm there too. Though whilst they annoy me, my view of their parents contains words I don't yet even know how to spell, let alone their meanings.
  6. I dislike (rather than hate) seeing the "Jolly Roger" being flown UNLESS the crew are also dressed up in the part. When a little bit of effort has been made in the name of fun, then I don't mind. I love the height of the season when there are so many people out there having fun together. I dislike seeing boats leave a mooring just as mooring fees are being collected. It doesn't matter how much the mooring fee is, you moored there, you pay the bill. For me especially annoying when the fare dodger is a private cruiser. I love the peaceful cruising to be had out of the main boating season. I dislike misbehaving children, especially in pubs. I love the periods between the height of the season and "out of season" when the rivers have a few active boats, and the promise of my favourite times ahead. I dislike being told what I should/should not be enjoying. If someone gets their jollies watching Corrie/EastEnders whilst moored in the most beautiful spot in the world, they are happy and enjoying themselves. They are doing no wrong and nobody should tell them that they are ! ! love the people watching there is to be had. I love helping moorers when it's wanted, I love.... well all of it really.
  7. Ever since I "misjudged" that bridge I've used the pilot except on my most recent trip when I had 6' 7". (I need 6' 1"). With luck I'm getting my nerve back! Choice... Pilot £20 return, or Repair damage to windscreen and cabin top. £50 + hours of doing things I'm not good at. Hmmm, I'll think about that.!
  8. Good luck Martin in getting the matter sorted. That's all I have to say
  9. Robin, It is imperative on your test, that when you stop, getting out of the car and tying it up will NOT impress the examiner. Do not do that, and all will be well.
  10. When you get used to it, push/pull steering is (in my opinion) easier than arm crossing and comes naturally. Not a bad habit to get into. I always thought that arm crossing was a test fail, so probably best not to risk it. Get used to doing it right.
  11. Sport eh! Sister likes watching test matches (but only if England are playing) and horse racing. I only watch F1.Other than that, I too glaze over at the merest mention of sport.
  12. Sir. I am outraged at the amount of alcohol you seem to be recklessly drinking. Further the irresponsibility of sanding a wooden boat on a daily basis just has to be considered beyond the pale. Do you have any idea how much Co Co2 and other greenhouse gasses you have released into OUR atmosphere with these frequent trips you have been making? I find your post utterly appalling and your conduct reprehensible. I shall be writing to my MP forthwith. I remain sir, your most obedient servant , MM.
  13. I'm not a Poldark fan but my sister is, so she is looking forwards to it no end. We were both fans of Judge John Deed, Downton and Spooks (so pretty varied tastes) but I reckon those series' have gone about as far as they could. Sorry to tell you but the Poldark books suggest that there are many more series' to come. Oh, we liked Foyle's war too. TV at it's best.
  14. I had guessed that it would be something of the sort, My question was more along the lines of... Danger of fire, Danger of Co poisoning, Danger of damage to the boat. I see all three as possibilities, and wondered which was in the hirefleets minds. Thanks Vaughan for clarifying the matter.
  15. I'd have to ask the gardener if I may.
  16. Mallets and club hammers are very useful in the height of the summer when the rain has hardened off the tarmac. Also those granite chippings are really difficult to get through if you are just using your foot to drive it in.
  17. This type of incident has been discussed (at considerable length) elsewhere. I found myself in agreement with one of Ricardo's early posts when basically he said... and I paraphrase here... "If the activity was illegal, it should have been reported at the time to the relevant authorities irrespective of whether the perpetrators were 'pikies' ." The thread thereafter took an unpleasant turn, which I very much hope this one does NOT. As I say, the crux of the matter is whether the incident had illegal aspects to it and what was done about that. Perhaps it is worth remembering the old quote... " For evil to exist it just needs good people to do nothing " or some such.
  18. I was of the view that portable gas appliances were not allowed on hire craft. I hope the boat-yard concerned has this picture brought to their attention. How they react to it is of course up to them, whether they 'go in hard' or adopt the 'softly softly' approach is a matter for their people to decide, not this forum. ( I hate 'Trial by forum' ). Would someone please enlighten me as to WHY portable gas appliances are banned by hire yards.
  19. If you want a double-entendre come over here and I'll give you one. (Stephen Fry)
  20. QV to Sea, Nah, that's a shopping channel. Ask Gracie for help Dilligaf.
  21. In all fairness, that was ignorance not malice I'm sure. It just needs someone to tell them, I just hope the person who eventually would have done, did it nicely.
  22. Pretty much agree Peter. I don't "Match fish" but I do understand those who do, requiring a keep net. I also understand Youngsters having the delight of releasing the "days catch". I don't use one myself but am generally ambivalent to those who do. Each to their own I suppose.
  23. Sorry all but not being too computer savvy, can someone explain to me again what is meant by "Flaming". Meanwhile back on topic, Timbo, RT is looking really good, do you have a planned data for getting her bottom wet?
  24. I rather think it depends on the lake and the rules applied at that lake. I fishes one once where the poor fish had been caught so often their mouths were in a terrible state. The fishing was such that even a novice would be almost guaranteed to catch and to be honest I did not enjoy the experience one iota. On another lake, I blanked on all but one occasion and though the fish wasn't massive (about 15 lbs) it was a common in prime condition. I did enjoy each of those visits. Generally speaking I enjoy all aspects of the sport though I am starting to have moral qualms about coarse angling. Nowadays I prefer Sea or Trout fishing. Fishing for the pot!
