  1. I understand the wall by the car park is a very popular tourist attraction given that people think it was pulled down some years ago.
  2. A duvet over the sleeping bag does it for me.
  3. Yes it could be, on the other hand it might not be. If it is then that is a real step in the right direction, unless we wanted things to go the other way, in which case the 'step in the right direction' would be a step too far in a contrary manner, which we most emphatically do not want. That would be bad news notwithstanding that we pigeonholed it as good news when for all intents and purposes it should have been categorized as bad news. If indeed it turns out to be bad news and was initially correctly identified as such, that would be a real shame though better that we should know as we are all aware that no news is good news. I should clarify that the expression "no news is good news" is meant on this (and most other) occasion to mean lack of news is good rather than all news being bad. In this instance and on this occasion, I shall refrain from giving my opinion on whether this news is good or bad, as I can't actually remember what the news was.
  4. Sorry Sue, I think not. There are many fireworks that make little noise but they're not the most popular ones. The louder the bang the more the people like it. I do agree though that as people no longer think of other people there ought to be permitted dates and times for letting off fireworks along the lines of 5th November to 12th November inclusive and new years eve to 00:30 new years day That should be about right. (in my far from humble opinion).
  5. Ooooooohh Gracie in a mini skirt getting on and off a boat.....,. Nurse, nurse... another cold shower for Mynah.
  6. Oh and Gracie, It's but a short walk to a pub that does good food and a selection of real ales.
  7. Dammit, I thought I'd found a way of both keeping herons away from the pond and irritating the neighbours all in one hit!
  8. No Q-V, Herons are quite common and are usually found flying wild. I have no idea Grendel. Is Heron good to eat?
  9. What I'm trying to find out is, will a Shishi Odoshi scare herons away from our pond? I'm thinking of making one if I can get the Bamboo. Advise on where I can get that would also be welcome.
  10. Typical ! You buy yourself an alligator and suddenly everybody starts to feed it. Obese alligators are a real problem in certain countries, bloody great lumps of lard lazing about on the rivers edge. Do we really want to see that on the Ant or the Bure? No of course we don't. Alligators need to be kept on a strict diet, eating no more than one or two children a week, though it can be four or five if they're just babies or toddlers. More than that and you're just killing them with kindness. It's got to stop I say.
  11. Isn't that really just a frying pan with a lid?
  12. With only two rings and a grill I'm perhaps a little less adventurous, but I reckon to eat out no more than once or twice a week. My best friend on board is a pressure cooker and I'm getting pretty good at cooking 'one pot' meals. I never use ready meals either... where's the fun in one of those?
  13. WOW! Chickens in the bilges, I've only got water and a tiny bit of Diesel.
  14. This is the weather forecast for the broadland area covering the period between Dec 24th to Dec 27th inclusive issued by Mynah weather stations Ltd. Good evening. Christmas Eve promises to be unseasonably chilly with a chance of snow at Potter Heigham bridge in the afternoon. A short sunny spell on Malthouse broad will raise the temperature very slightly, but not so much as you would notice. It will rain for most of the day at Oulton Broad. The expected winds on Christmas day will be lighter than last year but will still be described by all true locals as "Lazy". This is because all winds are described by Norfolk people as "Lazy". It will be slightly warmer than Christmas Eve with no snow falling anywhere on the broads except of course at the Berney Arms, where nobody will see it. It will rain for most of the day at Oulton Broad. Boxing day will be largely sunny in most places with the temperature getting close to 10 degrees Celsius (That's 50 degrees Fahrenheit for locals) though it will be much colder at Geldeston unless you're in the pub. Thick cloud will move in from the west in the evening, leading to a mild night. It will rain for most of the day at Oulton Broad. Finally on the 27th we can all expect extended periods of rain with very few breaks for the whole area in the morning with the sun only breaking through in the late afternoon. All together now... It will rain for most of the day at Oulton Broad. Thank you. That was the weather forecast for the Broadland area covering the Christmas period. I will now hand you back to the Mynah studio where there is going to be a live interview with a photograph of Doris Stokes.
  15. I can vaguely accept "scaremongering" though feel it an exaggeration, but it was the "nonsense" that I thought was well wide of the mark.
  16. It is quite rare for temperatures to go substantially 'sub zero' before January. Not unheard of I admit, but rare all the same.
  17. I thought CQR was the anchor warp... Can't Quite Reach.

    Torches

Yeah, My car's lights are a bit like that too
  19. Now that really IS tragic, but worry not. I'm here and volunteer to drink your share however much of a hardship it is. What are friends for eh?
  20. So, it is now an offence to fly the Union Jack (and yes, that is now recognised as an acceptable name for our flag) but not now an offence to fly the Jolly Roger. What about Union Jack bunting? Is flying that an offence? Is there a difference between flying a flag on a boat and a boat wearing one? Wearing medals that have not been earned is different. How do I "earn" the right to fly the Union Jack? How do I earn the right to fly the flag of St. George? I'm with Robin on this. Time to chill.
  21. Sorry everybody but this just HAD to be done... . . . . TRICK or TREAT.
  22. Several different things have come to light on this thread, some of which I think warrant further comment. Firstly on topic... Yes "trick or treat" is an Americanism, but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad thing. Lots of wonderful things have come from the colonies, and I'm sure I'll think of one soon. To "mark out" your house as being one ready and welcoming to trick-or-treaters is important. and it should be an opt-in thing rather than having to do anything to opt-out. There need to be guidelines as to what is acceptable as a "Trick" Letting off fireworks is certainly NOT one. even egging is questionable. People willing to receive trick-or-treaters should be prepared to say "Trick" sometimes. Firstly because it will teach kids that things don't always go their way and second it might encourage kids to be imaginative as to how they can fulfill their 'threat'. Personally, I would be one who would NOT want trick-or-treaters visiting, but that's just me. When they used to come I would just smile and say "no thank you" and gently close the door. sometimes getting it egged, sometimes not. I like the idea of the sign in the door, that should give added protection if necessary. Finally Tasering children and having their parents shot. Oh come off it ladies and gentlemen, we all know that this is just a figure of speech and should only be taken as a stronger level of disapproval than just "me no like"! If we were to take it any more literally than that we'd all have been shot years ago, well me certainly!! having said that... actually................ tasering children does sound rather fun :0
  23. WelI don't know ! On the one hand we've got kids demanding money with menaces, whilst on the other we've got adults enticing them with sweeties. Seriously though, I think Griff has the right idea. If you welcome halloween then hang something appropriate on your front door, and parents should go with the kids and keep them to doors that have been dressed.
  24. Option 5. A canal that runs from the side of the pilots office, under the road and back onto the main river just where the willow tree is. Put in a two way lock (like the one at Oulton broad) to stop any significant change in tidal effect and salt incursion. Phoenix pilots to operate locks so's to not take any financial hit. Simples, and only one bridge to build.
