I wish I could be there. I'm sure it will be a lovely send off for your dad and a celebration of his life. He was so lovely, I miss his posts

I wish you and your family well for tomorrow. I will be with you in my heart and mind

The best funerals are a celebration of a life well lived, and from all the interactions we’ve had over the forum, your Dad’s certainly was. Wishing you all the best for tomorrow, and special hugs for your Mum.

Just a bump and a reminder.

Dads funeral is tomorrow, 12.15, Gorleston Crematorium.

I do hope that everything went well for you and the family today, giving Ian a fitting send off

As others have said, a time to celebrate a life well lived, and to remember the good times and memories

Hi all,

Huge thanks again for the comments and thoughts.

Let me provide a brief overview of what was the best send off we could have hoped for.

At 11.00 Dad arrived back home, Close family and friends followed dad as he headed off to Hemsby Beach for a quick stop.

At 11:30 we arrived at Hemsby were the Hemsby lifeboat crew bowed in respect.  The Hemsby lifeboat flag was placed over dads coffin and a chelsea flag was placed over the top of dads coffin.  Hemsby crew of 6 joined the precession with the lifeboat "Broads Marley" at the end.

Just after 12pm we arrived into Gorleston Crematorium with Hemby lifeboat providing an honorary blue light escort.

We were amazed to see a huge group of people appear. Myself and 5 crew of hemsby lifeboat carried dad into his service with "Nimrod" by Elgar playing.

It was honour to walk past a Royal British Legion flag bearer who kindly had attended to honours dads voluntary service as a Poppy appeal collector.

The service was conducted Reverend Robert Soanes and Dusty Miller who had been friends and support with dad at James pageant hospital via the Mcmillian nurses.

Blue was the colour in the service, more than one Chelsea FC shirts clearly visible!

I've attached a copy of the service.  The service was amazing and tributes were paid by Dan and two other members of the Hemsby crew, A friend Alan who dad met via the Mcmillian coffee mornings at James Pageant hospital and Phillip who dad met whilst conducting yet more voluntary work in Thamesmead.  I don't think there a dry eye in the house and everyone was moved by the genuine love and admiration for dad.   Those that managed to get through the service were in tears when "I’ll See You Again" by Westlife played.

We left dad with the curtains open and "Nessun Dorma" by Pavarotti playing.

Approximately 70 people attended the service and twice than expected joined us at The Boathouse in Ormesby for a celebration of dads life.

As a family, we can't thank everyone enough for attending and to the amazing crew from the Hemsby lifeboat crew and to Alan and Phillip for the moving tributes. There is nothing more we could have done to provide a better send off for Dad and although a difficult day I'm so honoured with how it's gone and worry hugely that I have to try to fill such shoes!

If you've not managed to donate to dads memory and to the Hemsby lifeboat already please do via the link is:  https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/91noE7NU5H Dads page for tributes is https://ianhathaway.muchloved.com/

Those that have so kindly donated, as a family we would like to send you a thank you a card and a printed copy of the order of service. Please do PM me your postal address so we can get this to you.

Hopefully the service has been recorded and I will share a link here.

Thank you for finding the time to give us those details. Ian and his family popped into my mind on and off all day on Friday, However   I couldn't have imagined how  amazing everybody involved made Ian's send off, It sounds to have been a wonderful occasion and one he truly deserved.

What a fitting tribute to a man who did so much to help others even when fighting his own battles

Alan, you and your mum must have felt so proud. Through your own grief you have still found the time to keep us well informed about our friend, thank you

My best wishes to you and your family

Night night Ian, sleep well

I wanted to wait until after the funeral to ask Alan whether I could post this video here. I happened to get some video of Ian and Marina leaving Oulton Broad on Sweet Kingfisher back in 2017. If you forward to 1:30 you should be in the right place.
