It is never too late...

After many years just talking about it we have decided to have a break on the Broads. As caravanners we usually load up the big white shell onto our backs and snail off in the direction of somewhere nice but this year we are doing a week on the Norfolk Broads during our two weeks away.

Having just entered my sixth decade I decided it is now or never. As a teenager in the 70's I raced powerboats off the south coast but since then my only responsibility at the helm has been on a rowing boat on Windermere and I live life at a much more sedate pace now!

We have hired the Brinks Omega in July and we are so confident that we will love it so much, we have hired the Brinks Concerto 6 (probably a bit ambitious) for a week early October, and neither can come fast enough!

I just wanted to say Hello and also to thank all those people who have taken the trouble to document their times on the Broads, provide websites with loads of information and generally be so very generous with their time to inform and inspire others. Particular thanks to Robin the London Rascal who has given me the confidence to give it a go!

I will be lurking, unashamedly leeching as much info from you all as I can and opefully I can contribute something worthwhile too.

Best Regards to you all,

Alistair & Sue Ross

Welcome Alistairr to the NBN Forum, as already said by Eric and MM, just lurk away, and please feel free to ask any questions that you may require answering.

I am sure someone will have a reply for you. Have TWO great holidays on The Broads at a sedate pace, as Eric said you WILL be hooked, just like the rest of us are.

cheers Iain.

A very warm welcome Alistair and Sue from us old pair   :wave  (you are never too old  :shocked ). It will be a first for us on a boating holiday and we are gong mid April and again late Sept/early Oct, so we might see you on that one. Anyway, do enjoy your holiday, as I am sure you will.

As far as this forum goes, everyone is here to answer any questions you might have and all are very nice and friendly. as well as a few teasers, not mentioning any names but one lives in Haggis Land

It was watching London Rascal's videos, that got us hooked on having a broads holiday.

There is plenty to read about on here and once you reach the magical fifty posts, you get the honour of becoming a full member by bowing down and grovelling :bow  to some of the hierarchy on here who have to propose and second you.

Thanks for the welcome eveyone, it is nice to feel wanted when you enter a new forum for the first time. If anyone wants to take up caravanning, then perhaps I can help you out.  :)

Not quite a Yorkie Iain. Born in the North East, formative years in the south, twenty years travelling around with the Army then about eighteen years living near Edinburgh. Yorkshire has only been home for a relatively short time. Sue is a Scouser but completely rehabilitated now and I can take her anywhere. A good job that she doesn't read the forums eh!

As coincidence would have it Geoff & Wendy, I still have a Macsweens haggis in the fridge begging to be eaten, if my cholesterol level can take the hit! I look forward to seeing you all on here or on the water.

All the best,

Alistair

Hello Sue and Alistair,  :welcome:  to NBN. Let me tell you  :shocked . All the time the kids were growing up I keep saying no to a boat holiday. Then when our son was of age he had a holiday with his partner on the Norfolk Broads. The next year while they were on holiday on the Broads they invited us up for a day trip. Well that was the start of it. The next year we all had a week together on the Broads and then it went to two weeks cruising the Broads :Stinky . After that hubby (Ian) and I were holidaying  by ourselves. Twice a year it got to and then we brought our own cruiser and we upgraded our boat two years ago  :Stinky

Why did I so NO for all these years, but we are making up for it now  .

Ian and I are both 60 this year cheersbar , so we are making the most of it, so if we can do it, you both will love it.

Enjoy your holidays cruising the Broads and let us all know how they went  :clap .

Regards

Marina   :Stinky

:wave and  :welcome: to both the forum and the broads...

It sounds like you have caught the broads boat bug.. after your first week it will only get worse!  Have a brilliant trip!  Couple of initial bits of advice.. Don't rush it.. you will be back... and go south.. it's the best bit ;)

cheers

Hi Alistairr, welcome from Deb and myself.

We started hiring about 5yrs ago and the very first boat we hired was Brinks Omega. We had a fantastic week on her and fell in love with boating holidays over that week. Omega has an air draft of 8.6 so you will need to check bridge heights on the Ant at Ludham ( we had spring tides on that holiday and couldn't get under ) and if you do venture through Great Yarmouth.

In those 5 years we progressed to 3 holidays a year, yes 3, and in October last year we decided to purchase our own boat. Just a small one but for the cost of the 3 holidays each year we can keep our boat and use it whenever we are free ;)

One thing is for sure, you WILL catch the 'bug'.

cheers

Steve

Alistair,

With regards to that haggis, McSweens IMO is the least fat content of the mass produced kind. Its caught early so disny allow the fat to leak out! :naughty:

cheers Iain

p.s. Nae prizes where I come from! :naughty:

They don't fly at all, they live on the north facing side of hills / mountains hence two legs are longer than t'other two - and I thought everyone knew that!

--------------------------------------

Anyroadup Alistair / Sue - welcome to the NBN and more importantly the 'Broads'

July AND October - two vastly different weeks you have chosen.

July for the hustle and bustle / Wx (Hopefully) / deck totty / challenge of finding a mooring / avoiding rag-n-sticks etc etc

October - Cracking time of year to be afloat - Enjoy

(Of course you do realise you will become hooked and the caravan will become history?)

Welcome - I think your boat for the second week Concerto is a better choice than your first week so much so, if you can change it I would consider it. Much nicer layout practical and easy to drive and live is a Concerto, full size shower in the rear is a godsend

Sure you'll have a fab time and that caravan will be up for sale soon ;-)
