  1. Square sausage is perfect for banjoes! I love the first dog emptying walk along a mooring when everyone is frying up - so does the four legged dustbin!
  2. Good choice of boat and cracking advice from all. Another handy hint, especially as there may be restricted access to pubs is to have a stash of tinned/ packet grub for a couple of meals, just in case you can't get a mooring near enough to your hostelry of choice. Of course you'll already have supplies for the obligatory bacon banjo breakfast!
  3. I do believe its Charles Darwin behind the bar - genius pic!
  4. If it involved a Mars bar (other chocolate confectionery is available) - been there, done that. The old ones are the best!
  5. I suppose if she does come back to the Broads she'll be 'going up the country'. Sorry, I'll get my coat☺
  6. Thanks for the good wishes, Ray. We're at Ipswich A&E tomorrow for MRSA swabs, then a later date TBA for Covid swabs before she even gets on the 'final list'. Everything was explained patiently and fully by the scrub nurse, no question was too dumb for her - really confidence inspiring for someone who has only been in hospital twice in her life. (Unlike me!)
  7. There'll be one less boat in the fourth of July celebrations -Kathy has just been informed that a long-awaited carpal tunnel operation will take place on 1/7. In an hour long phone call we're told, amongst loads of other things, to completely self isolate for a fortnight before and after, even from each other! Apparently I'll have to fight the dog for the sofa at night.
  8. So did I (for a little while). First visit up to meet the prospective in-laws I was somewhat surprised when Da took me off the 'the welfare' while the ladies cooked Sunday dinner. I was even more surprised when ladies started taking their clothes off to music - apparently it was a Northern thing. Was the phrasebook 'Learn yersel Geordie' by Scott Dobson? Still got it somewhere 40-odd years on!
  9. I'm sure its just that the "Teddy throwing and talking blx season" has lasted a bit longer this year. In the pre-NBN days of Speakers Corner and NBF November to March was always somewhat divisive. As soon as we're all released from house arrest things will calm down.

    First Photo

We used overnight there whenever we went South, while the Woods End was still a pub - the furry chickens drove the then boat-dog loopy.
  11. Ah! Berni Inns, the pinnacle of fine dining when you wanted to impress a new laydee.

    Broadsedge

Its 10 years to the day that No Worries (thanks Facebook) rocked up at Broadsedge. We've no plans to go anywhere anytime soon. David is doing a cracking job, including monitoring the extensive CCTV remotely on his mobile - he's a good ol' boy!
  13. I can't help wondering if any recipients of a Rhodes scholarship were persons of colour and will be repaying their awards.
  14. My old Group Scoutmaster had one, every year the winning patrol was loaded into the CA Bedford van to witness the ceremonial firing of the beast over the marshes between Woodbridge and Waldringfield. It involved a sweetie bag of black powder followed by a bag of assorted tin tacks and shot. The smoke screen and recoil was a sight to behold! I don't think he'd get away With it today.
  15. Back in the sixties a schoolmates Dad had a boat at Woodbridge with a Kitchin rudder, now that WAS technical! Two wheels and a twin lever Morse control. Busier than a one armed paper hanger picking up the trot mooring off the Tide Mill!
  16. Mardling with Rob at Sutton last week, he said he's been rushing about like a mad thing with sales and fender-kickers.
  17. With the greatest possible respect for the original posters intentions this smacks of blazered buffers in well-polished Freemans cruising around shouting at well-lubricated stag parties to put a lifejacket on!
  18. Mates of ours took on a run-down pub in Ipswich (a 'Tolly folly' for those in CAMRA) late last year. They've been told by their pubco to look into the feasability of a one metre distancing , no dates have been mentioned yet but things may be moving at last. There may be a faint glimmer at the end of the tunnel!
  19. Just (today) filled up at Sutton Staithe - £1 per litre, 60/40 split!, pumpout still £12.
  20. Wrabness - not far from the Butt and Oyster!
  21. We've just heard from a reliable source that Broadsedge will re-open from tomorrow between 9:30 and 4:30 for day visits only. No facilities or water so bring your own but at least we can start scraping the green off and see if the mighty throbbing BMC still throbs!
  22. I've had good results with Danish Oil - multiple coats, applied with bits of old T shirt, flatted between with 0000 wire wool.
  23. Probably through PNC, the Police National Computer which I'm probably still on from my happy days in C&E when I was authorised to transport all manner of stuff including Section 5 firearms, in my own car rather than a marked up 'works motor'.
