I'm with the others - since the Woods End was reincarnated as the Waters Edge its the only establishment on or near the Broads in which I've been made to feel I should really have worn a suit and tie - decidedly unwelcoming!

It was entertaining when they first appeared to watch the local yoof doing the usual 70-odd then slamming on the anchors to trickle past the inoperative cameras.

We saw one a few years ago on a hired bathtub curled up on the stern - "ooh look, someone's brought one of those stuffed ships cats from Nauticalia!" Then it started washing its bum! There also used to be a liveaboard about (Bourne 40??) with a catflap let into the side of the sliding canopy so it can be done. I don't think I'd trust any of our four on board though.

Did there not use to be a waste compactor set up there? Probably would have taken all that easily.

When we were about a couple of weeks ago there was either a new or a beautifully restored Caraboat at How Hill - maybe 14/16' with a Honda outboard. I'd have got a snap but I was busier than a one armed paper hanger avoiding the muppetry.

I do hope so - some years ago I was a stretcher bearer moving the victim of a propeller/leg coming together from the safety boat to a waiting ambulance, his leg from the knee down followed in a bin bag! You can guess what goes through my mind whenever I see a SUP!

Another vote from me for Alan Boswell. Its often an education listening to the VHF at Felixstowe on a weekend when there's racing going on out of the Royal Harwich Yot Club. Pilots driving big box ships have a very large vocabulary!

Vaughan, technically it would have been imported (probably from China) as a pin dish - ashtrays with the groove to rest your Woodbine in attracted a higher rate of duty back in the day. Of course, everybody used them as ashtrays ,we have just that one at the helm of No Worries !

There has been cold-calling round Suffolk and Norfolk using various excuses and if a dog is seen a discrete chalk mark is left nearby,they later come back with a van and lift the dog or dogs. There have been warnings on Suffolk police pages for a week or so. A mate in a village just out of town had a visit a week ago,c/w chalk mark!

We passed you on your way down to Acle around Upton Dyke, running well with a big bone on Lucents teeth! According to Garmin you were doing a good 5.5 mph!

Ludham Bridge was the usual mayhem on Tuesday morning, FBI moorings virtually empty (Gus was up on the roof of a new build just up from King line). The New Inn had 8 or so boats moored and garden full, good to see. Salhouse chocker, Wroxham not too busy, straight through the bridge with a wave from the pilot in a mask. Coltishall full by 4 and the same on Wednesday (mea culpa,we stayed 2 nights as it was hissing down.) Now at the West end of Salhouse and its still precipitating! All in all its like a normal July midweek. We didn't venture in any pubs as victualled on board. We're just glad to be back!

It always tickled us on our lads weeks (average age low 70s, two RC priests, one Lt.Cmdr. ret'd, one tug master foreign going) when Herbie's apologetically took our brown envelope with £300 in it to put in a drawer to give back at the end of the week.

I've overnighted happily at both ends of Barton depending on wind direction, Salhouse at the Wroxham end, Womack and Malthouse on a single weight. The theory is the boat swings into the wind so give minimum resistance.
