  1. the rear wall has some greenery now, and the buildings roof is about right, plus there is the horizontal line on the wall at the back of the quay.
  2. I believe here in lanesborough looks about right- steps, wall and quay, just up from the bridge on the left bank (as you go through the bridge)
  3. well today I have shaped a plank ready, not steamed as I ran out of time, the blue fenders are done and added to the fender pile, I have also printed out the distinctive light fittings, and ordered some Led's to light them up.
  4. I wasnt, I was looking at the architecture behind the boat, now to figure here else to look for that sort of architecture.
  5. one presumes that this is a location that was accesible in 1965, but may no longer be. my guess would be somewhere in Norwich - just from the walls.
  6. what is the new nokia like phone? I have been struggling away with a blackberry (discarded by my wife), until all the buttons fell off, and have just transferred to a second identical blackberry that the daughter had spare. but for all that I use a phone for, the blackberry is a waste, now if I could tether the laptop to the internet through it, that might help, but I cant.
  7. I just wonder how they got a longship under Potter heigham and Wroxham bridges, was the figurehead detachable (starts wondering if its possible to make a longship in the back garden - it would be a short one though), Hmm now who do i know with a longship, well I do know of about 3 out there, the water depth wouldnt be a problem as they probably draw less than most broads cruisers.
  8. surely a still camera would be enough to capture you working Tim (Doug on the other hand would be just a blur).
  9. the first time we went to the broads, when we came to the moorings below Potter bridge my wife was driving, I was detailed to jump off and set the rhond anchors. well we hare in towards the mooring - brakes- reverse- what are those, crunch, off I jump, the boat is still in gear, and in forward at that, the wife watches serenely from the boat, doing nothing, while I struggle to stop a rampaging boat from charging away up the river, do I get respite to stamp an anchor into the ground- do I heck, ah well a quick turn around the only bush for miles, then I can get an anchor in, head back to the boat, and get the wife to take it out of gear, then back to the anchors and sort them out, safely anchored now. this was only day 2, day one was spent on the mudweight in South Walsham broad (just outside the area for no mooring through the narrow bit), then we had to head back to acle to sort out the puddle on the carpet (the cold water system sprang a leak and emptied itself everywhere, a quick phone call and back to acle where it was all sorted (new cold water pump), not fun getting out of bed and finding the floor wet I have to say. (The bush seemed to survive its harsh treatment, I wonder just how many times its been used as a mooring post here)
  10. surely a liveaboards dinghy will be moored at the staithe less that one moored and used occasionally, as the dinghy would have to be land side for the owner to get to the island. common sense says there needs to be dinghy mooring (or a ferry service)
  11. that last plank has been glued and the blue fenders have had their second coat
  12. I would have thought water floated everyones boats
  13. well done, you have passed the test for new forum techical whizzkid.
  14. crazy horses, whiter shade of pale, and you cant beat a bit of Freebird
  15. there has been talk on other Forums of a tax on emissions in certain cities, where a 4 year old diesel, or a 13 year old petrol car will be taxed additionally as a high polluter, I find this an awful liberty to assume that an older car will pollute more, as my 18 year old Volvo (petrol) has just been through its MOT and sailed through the emissions with 1ppm CO (200 allowed) at high tickover, and 0 (not measureable- 300 allowed) at normal idle. This is mostly due to the fact that the car is doing 124 miles every day, on motorways at a reasonable speed. one difference between cars and boats for petrol engines, is that a car does not have an enclosed space around the engine for petrol vapour to build up.
  16. Tim you are just lucky you were not spotted staring at anything else. My daughter once commented that I was looking at some of the passing students while driving, I had to respond with, well just look how they are dressed, skirts up to their armpits, just shocking how they dress nowadays (I think I got away with it).
  17. if worst comes to worst, you can pop the old hard drive into a hard drive caddy and access all your data from it, Just had similar with my dads laptop- (it was 10 years old) it was working fine thursday, - friday. turns it on and --- Nothing, just one green light to say its plugged in. we got him a new laptop, and I spent 3 days getting it set up back the way he liked it (with the old versions of office, publisher etc).
  18. may need a second coat on those blue ones.
  19. lazy day today, all my lazyness for the whole bank holiday crammed into 1 afternoon. anyway, I shaped steamed and clamped the next plank, then dipped the remaining fenders remaining blue ends, oh plus the obligatory single blue fender for each model. (sorry Robin)
  20. after the third visit, my dad is back up and running with a new windows 10 laptop, loaded up with the software he prefers (publisher 98 and office 2000) after getting half the software and his old files on, I went to change the drive in my sata drive caddy, and I hear a pop, the power adapter had blown, thus there I was with a disc of software I couldnt access, so after a trip home yesterday, a further trip was needed this morning to sort out the last few programs so he can edit his photos, the added bonus being that all this was done with no internet access as he has a laptop, but doesnt connect it to the internet. result - where has the bank holiday weekend gone to?
  21. mostly uphill, but it is downhill all the way back when you have got your shopping
  22. yesterdays plank glued in place, and one end of this batch of fenders dipped blue.
  23. last seen on facebook painting windmill murals.
  24. and last bit of work today, another plank steamed and clamped in place to set. top coated fenders brought indoors now they are dry.
