  1. Thanks for the tips. Strange thing was that I posted this topic sitting in exactly the same spot but on my iPhone using 4G. Anyway if this post now appears then we will know that it was a minor blip. Edited to add that it has so all would now seem to be well. Hooray.
  2. Morning All, Away for the week and trying to post using Chrome on a new Asus tablet. I can sign in and I know that works as I can see my personal view. But it signs me straight out again! So if I try to reply to a topic I get the reply box to type but then it displays the whole topic again before giving me a button right at the bottom to add reply. Then it says saving but it doesn't do it presumably because by that time it has logged me out. Any ideas?
  3. Lovely start to your holiday. Looking forward to reading how everything goes. And I know that Costa's at Caxton Gibbet very well. I frequently have to drive up to Bedford for work meetings and often go along the A428.
  4. We had a very good couple of nights in the Premier Inn by the river in Norwich. A lovely walk from there along by the yacht station, up past the cathedral and on into the city centre. Loved Norwich and fully intend to get back there later in the year, much later in the year ... for a spot of shopping but I mustn't say anymore or I might get told off!
  5. Interesting to read that you liked the boat so much that you booked it again for this year. That's always a sign of a good and popular boat. We used to do that with Swan Reflection and Fair Prince.
  6. We have developed those same kind of "traditions" over a number of visits to the Broads, even though we have started from several different boatyards. Mostly they include cake, coffee and homemade fudge!
  7. Welcome to the forum patersp. I love the Southern Broads but haven't ever crossed Breydon so can't answer this particular question. But I'm sure there will be other people along at any moment. I'm sure you'll have a lovely time.
  8. I just wanted to thank the team for undertaking the work to reorganise things a bit. I really like the new tabs and dropdowns - they're great for finding things quickly.
  9. Sad news ... losing too many good people already this year. Thoughts with Jill's family and friends.

    Back Again

Mickey I also hope you have a really good holiday all together. If by any chance you might want to moor somewhere without a pub for a nice quiet evening then I would recommend Langley Dyke and North Cove. Hubby and I find both of them a welcome change after the larger, more popular and therefore noisier spots such as Beccles and Loddon.
  11. Welcome along Simon and Kate. I'm a hirer rather than an owner so not able to answer your questions but really looking forward to hearing how you get on.
  12. Loved that. Very interesting, a touch of humour to keep me engaged when all the woodworking was going over my head ... and great music. Will definitely subscribe to your channel Timbo.
  13. Great picture ... and what an interesting tale to go with it. Have you thought about writing a book? It sounds as if you have done a real variety of jobs and hobbies over the years Peter.
  14. Sounds like it was a mix of relaxing and being busy for you both Alan. I guess that's the thing about hiring ... you get on the boat, have your holiday, then leave it to the yard to make it ready for the next guests, fuelled up and pumped out. Not that we would ever leave a lot of mess, we do keep the boat tidy ... and make sure that all the washing up is done!
  15. Hello! Looking forward to hearing how you get on with Susie.
  16. Thank you so much for such a detailed write up and the photos. We haven't tried Silverline yet but it might be a possibility if we want to hire on the south again at some point.
  17. I haven't kept up with this but on checking this morning it hasn't been good news at Norwich. Three eggs, one chick died and one was accidentally thrown out of the nest. I only had time to read the update quickly but it sounds as if there is only one chick left. https://www.facebook.com/HawkandOwlTrust/posts/796213147203853
  18. Not sure what has happened here. Grace and I have both made replies on Robin's latest holiday tale but Mouldy's post is still showing as the latest one on my personal view. And our posts are also not showing in Latest Posts either. Plus the entire topic is in Video Blogs but I can't find that forum anywhere on the list now - you used to get an option for that under Holiday Tales. I realise this is all being worked on but thought that I would flag it up.
  19. Robin I am enjoying this series - I think the short snaps breaking up each day work well. Even though I've now been to the Broads a good number of times, it was interesting to hear you talk about how the current affects what the bow and the stern are doing. And then to think through how to get tied up and how to leave the moorings. So thank you for that.
  20. Mouldy I can only echo what Grace has already written. A heartfelt post that reminded me also of losing my mum five years ago now. Grief affects us all in different ways and just when you think you're fine something will sneak up on you and remind you all over again. For me that tends to be when I come home after a lovely holiday and remember how the first thing that I would always have done would have been to phone my mum and tell her all about it. Over time it does get easier.
  21. Lovely photos - really enjoyed seeing those.
  22. Simon we have hired from Ferry Marina a couple of times and I would definitely go back. It is true that the all inclusive price can work out to more than hiring a similar boat from some other yards depending how much fuel you use ... and we don't tend to use that much. But the staff are really friendly, very helpful, the boats are well turned out, the location is a great starting point and we like their service. When you arrive back you can just disembark and go ... no hanging around for someone to dip the tank or fill up the diesel and then queue up for your refund. Great service and I'm liking the look of their newer boats for couples as well.
  23. Enjoyed reading your write up and looking forward to the next one. One of the reasons that I like hiring from different yards on different trips is to give you different start and finish places and thus different cruising routes. For example if you hire from Ferry Marina then Horning is quite central and gives you a lot of options for first and last night moorings. Hiring from Richardson's can mean that the Ant becomes more of a transit than visiting the moorings. Hiring from anywhere in Wroxham can give you the same feeling about the stretch of the Bure down to Salhouse. So I like the variety ... and as our next trip starts from Wroxham I fully intend to see whether the yard can get us under Wroxham Bridge instead of waiting for the pilot so that we can head to Coltishall.
  24. Welcome along Judy. That's certainly quite a list of places to visit ... someone must have been doing some reading or researching to have worked all that out already. Fair Emperor should be a lovely boat. NBD's boats always look amongst the most well turned out on the rivers. Are you on board for one week or two? If it's two you can certainly cover north and south but if only one week, and it's your first time, I would stay north. But each to their own ... that's the point of a holiday with so much freedom to choose what to do and where to go.
  25. Welcome aboard to all new members ... hoping that you will come on in and tell us a little about yourselves, especially if you've got a holiday booked on the Broads - we all love those holidays tales.
