  1. At least another 7 people have watched the video since this morning - more than when I put it on a Facebook page a couple of weeks ago ( It was issued in March) At least it makes fairly clear the policies that have to be overcome for any future change .
  2. There is a video from the Environment Agency (Via Broads Futures Initiative) showing the rudiments of dredging ( Please don't shoot the messenger) Oddly only 197 people have watched it - There are others available from the BFI Website
  3. Was just talking food with the Landlady & Chef at The Ship & I mentioned your remark & apparently one of the long time regulars has commented recently the Steak Pie was the "best yet" Not tried it myself yet but will next time!
  4. You need 70% or below to dry clothes successfully outdoors so suspect that is a good marker to aim for - any improvement on that would be a bonus but costly. I recently brought a small unit for a damp cupboard in the house but realised it ran 24/7 ( presumably no sensor)with the instruction not to control from the mains switch ruling out a timer - worth noting though it seems to have improved things in the cupboard but at 22w seems a bit expensive to run for a small space
  5. Housing would be unlikely as right on the edge of Flood Zone 3 with Railway impleading escape routes?
  6. Think this will be on topic and maybe of use especially the Spring Lines Mooring info at the start it was taken just before the Quay Attendants ended their season by a private boat owner. The rest of his videos are quite interesting too as he went down the old river at Thorpe on his way to Norwich.
  7. With double the number of hire craft albeit mostly smaller in the 1970s there were a lot more steel piled embankments which served as mooring places and by the end of the summer numerous wild moorings against trees & tree roots clearly marked by paint & gel coat no doubt started when hirers had to force a mooring in high season. Provision of BA Free Mooring is a balance between leasing charges/ cost of purchase etc. Hopefully the swing towards new craft being on the large side will mitigate the loss of some of the Richardson craft especially if they stay in private hands even without the hire multiplier
  8. The Town Council took full control of the Yacht Station 3 years ago so suspect its taken some time to get the finance together
  9. The resurgence in popularity & lengthening of the season sounds a pretty good reason & having lost the Norwich TIC where the Whitlingham staff were to be redeployed & could always be changed to being staffed by volunteers? The "hub" idea has been around for some time so a good place to start & promote the South for a change
  10. That section was well silted up a year ago when I was last there.
  11. Don't forget there are two hire yards at Brundall & therefore cut out Braydon all together. Most Hire craft can get under Somerleyton & Reedham Swing Bridges other than on very high Spring Tides. the two Thorpe bridges are too risky to even try.
  12. Try Reedham & District Local History & Archaeology Group on Facebook - a mine of information!
  13. Major work on Reedham Swing bridge now re-scheduled to start "Late Autumn 2022" https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/anglia/improving-the-railway-in-anglia/swing-bridge-renewals/
  14. Reedham Quay is fully accessible all winter but the Sandersons end ( who are now closed) is prone to overtopping on Springs - One Electric post is awaiting repair & they tend to trip so often left "off" in winter The taps are left on but the thread size is bigger than standard for Hoselock type fittings so a suitable rubber connector is probably best. The Ship is the best option for 7 day service but best check direct.
  15. For anyone else contemplating a November cruise I tend to agree with staying North as I doubt any of the remaining South yards will still be open & Norwich & Great Yarmouth Quays Yacht Stations will closed & Reedham will have no Quay Attendant - Electric points will either be off or prone to tripping out with high tides. That said the various eating establishments will still appreciate visitors to help get them through the winter as well as retaining skilled staff however some will be closed for example on Mondays and indeed Tuesdays as well so always check before travelling as hours too may be curtailed.
  16. If they are the swipe type rather than the old slot in version they should be ok unless they have been in contact with a magnetic source like a mobile phone.
  17. The BA sites at Norwich Yarmouth & Reedham will also be closed in November
  18. For those not aware the BA Planning Committee is made up of all 9 Local Authority Members & 5 appointed by the Secretary of State who sit on the Committee, Chaired by a Local Authority Nominee.
  19. Whilst BA is the Planning Authority & the Planning Committee includes representatives from all of the District & County Councils. They are guided by the Broads Local Plan as well as the relevant County with regard to flooding & highway access and if contamination is involved the Environment Agency who will also have input re Flood Prevention.
  20. Others may be interested to know roughly what the Taxi fare & Big Dog Ferry price is?
  21. I do wonder if some crews are not sure of the locations they are going to - I was chatting to a crew yesterday about to leave via Reedham Swing Bridge ( which they would get trough with ease) & they asked about "a bridge" on the New Cut - I assured them that the road bridge would be fine & that Somerleyton was only a few inches lower than Reedham but I did warn about St Olaves I did wonder if it was they but they were from a different yard thank goodness
  22. Here is the interim short report into the Great Yarmouth incident of Aug 2020 https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1014747/InterimReport-DiamondEmblem1.pdf
  23. The original permission was on condition the Boatshed was rebuilt prior to construction of the houses in line with the Broads Local Plan The shed is now in different ownership & is not being re-built so a new application has had to be made which is still under consideration
  24. Turned out to be nothing exceptional - no higher than the rouge high a couple of weeks ago
