  1. You would have remembered him if you'd come across him..... It would have been a good few years ago. The page I was trying to post a link to was back in 2007 but I think he was still active for a while after that. he did indeed imply he came from Croydon and I think he claimed to have a restaurant. Reedham and Weep was one of his lines. he did upset some folk but as I said, I think it was just his off the wall humour. I always enjoyed reading his waffle, he could be very funny sometimes. He never upset me.
  2. I think he appeared on here but was banned. He had a fair run on the now defunct NBO He was a wind up merchant but I found him quite amusing. I don't think he was ever offensive, just a bit off the wall. I don't think he knew anything about the Broads. I think sometimes a ' character' can actually be good for a Forum, a bit of light relief never comes amiss. Look at the lamented Roya. Another great character. Although the present situation is very serious and folks need to discuss it, the likes of Roya and Ramjet can provide most blessed relief old pea.
  3. Exactly! There has just been some blurb in the EDP about this. Hoseasons trying to claim they have offered refunds voluntarily as good honest brokers but of course they didn't mention that they had had their arms twisted! In other words they most likely wouldn't have done it if they hadn't been cornered. I gather the parent company was the subject of a bulk of the complaints.
  4. Looks a lovely day. Where are you going or can you tell us?
  5. Excellent point! I reckon when things do start again it will be like August Bank holiday weekend but ten times worse! Up here in flat cap land McDonald's drive throughs have opened and caused mayhem with long traffic queues. I can't wait to get afloat again but I'm just hoping it will be quiet in December - I'll hang on till then I think. Having said all this I do sympathise with the businesses and obviously they will be looking forward to customers returning.
  6. If its still in the hands of the same owner very unlikely I suspect. Nail and head I think!
  7. Thanks for posting Poppy. Personally I can't wait to get back in the pub. BUT - I want to feel safe and not put others at risk, so I have mixed feelings about this. I certainly won't be rushing to frequent Mr Martin's establishments. I've been living on bottled Mallinsons although Carol has sampled the Grain drive through and got hold of some Humpty Dumpty. I'm not jealous of course
  8. Thanks for posting, yup, support the pub!! https://www.pubisthehub.org.uk/news/catch-the-ferry-for-a-trip-to-the-shop/
  9. I would urge everyone to consider buying beer from Rick or any pub doing takeaways rather than supermarkets where possible and feasible obviously. The beer is better and more importantly this trade will hopefully do a bit to keep our precious pubs afloat if you'll excuse the pun. As I've mentioned before, get yourself a growler!!
  10. Network Rail are planning upgrades to Reedham, Somerleyton and Oulton Broad swing bridges. See here:-- https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/anglia/swing-bridge-renewals/
  11. This applies to all pubs, so yes, you would have to collect and consume elsewhere as things stand now. I assume they would include land based trade too, not just water bourne traffic. They would just need to arrange a serving point and social distancing etc. There are a few pubs doing this now and they seem very well organised. Help to keep them afloat if you'll excuse the pun. Admiral are one of the few good guys among the Pub Co's and along with Adnams are not demanding rent during lock down.
  12. Might be borderline if it's allowed but nice thought. You would think the Ferry at Surlingham would be ideally placed for some sort of takeaway. Some pubs are even doing deliveries too.
  13. That's the impression I've been getting. The longer the season goes on yards will have to decide if tolling a boat will be worthwhile in terms of hire return. Quite a bit of the season lost already.
  14. Don't try that outside the Waters Edge though! Shoulder of Mutton at Strumpshaw are doing takeaways for grub and beer but a bit far from the river.
  15. I like the Red Lion, excellent pub. Just wish I had the money! I hope it continues as a pub. If it's turned into housing I'll spit. Bit like the Castle at Wroxham, its got quite a decent car park. I can see some developer sticking six executive houses on there. Just hope I'm being cynical. Three pubs fairly close - The Kings Head is a gastro pub, The Rising Sun is often closed and aimed fairly at the tourist trade. The locals, from what I've seen, go in the Red Lion. I shall watch with interest and fingers crossed.

  17. There's more! We fall in the second group. I've spoken to the yard owner and previously messaged Hoseasons although looks like I might need to do it again.
  18. This Forum drifting? Never been known before, whatever next?
  19. Yes, appaulling treatment by Hoseasons. I always deal with the yards directly although they still have to pay Hoseasons their cut. Which is not an unsubstantial amount either. The yards do value your business and will treat you fairly. Might be a good reason to use independent yards? Having said that my yard are excellent and have been very supportive.
