  1. Hi Lori, This is regarded as a canal breach, they usually happen on canals with an embankment, they can breach on the side of the canal or on the bed at the bottom, I have seen various old pictures that show breaches with someone stood on the bottom with tehir heds just seen above the hole. When a potential breach is being monitored thay may close the section and install stop planks, in the situation of the canal in question they will install stop planks at locks or at the narrows or bridges to isolate the breached section. Quite a few years ago there was an incident on the Chesterfield Canal where someone managed to pull out a plug out of the bed of the canal. I was servicing a machine in a local canal side pub at the time and saw the empty canal. https://www.worksopguardian.co.uk/news/memories-of-pulling-the-plug-on-canal-1-624620 Regards Alan
  2. The Riverside site of Brooms includes a small number of companies who rent, lease or own properties on the site such as Custom Craft and the chap that does the window repairs etc. I know of a few people that have already set up their own businesses after leaving Broom's over the last year, maybe it could be said that they saw the writing on the wall. With the 90 plus trains going past every day and the fact that they have to blow their whistles/horns on leaving Brundall station as a warning for the unmanned crossing for access to Bells Marina it is doubtful that housing is a good option for the site. I would also assume that there will be another warning when the Brundall unmanned crossing comes into effect? Regards Alan
  3. I thought the Haines boats used the Broom hulls, but IMHO fitted out better. Regards Alan
  4. As with all items plumbing especially is made to a price, I have had issues with gate valves over the years and always have spare ones to replace the upper part of the valve if needs be, yes you will some leakage, but it is better to have something you can turn off if needs be. I have not been keen on plastic fittings, they always break at some time so I would never fit one to the skin of a boat. Regards Alan
  5. You could try boats&outboards as an alternative, Ebay classified is also an option, Regards Alan
  6. Hello Kevbro, Welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  7. Hi Sue I hope your shares sell soon. Regards Alan
  8. Hi SteveO, One of the best towns is Burton on Trent as long as the wind is in the right direction, if not then all you smell is the output from the Marmite factory. Regards Alan
  9. One of our owners did moor there a few years ago, yes there is a danger of mooring on one side of the marina. His complaint was the charges for mooring, £18 was the cost of the welcome pack, he thought this would contain a bottle of wine, sadly just leaflets and he also had to buy electric cards. You would be better off mooring outside the Fisherman's or on the 24 hour moorings. Regards Alan
  10. Hi Steve, Poor Les getting the brush off by the looks of it Being as I didn't see Debs here is a tip for cleaning the forward and aft toilets, fill the sink with warm soapy water and using a sponge clean clean everything down including the walls and then using the shower head rinse it all down whilst activating the shower pump in the said toilet. I bet you can not for your next allocation. Regards Alan

  12. Hello MM, If you go into the next entrance after Tingdene Marina you may get one of the yards such as Silverline to let you moor for a short time whilst you visit Peachments and Brian Wards who are a short walk up the service lane. Rgards Alan
  13. Part of that shop was a well stocked chandlers, on our first journey to the Southern Broads I bought a couple of ball fenders for use on the boat to help protect the hull from the heavy piled moorings that were on the Southern Broads at the time. Regards Alan
  14. Unless you are going to the Southern Rivers, personally I think its a waste of fuel going beyond Stokesby. Try and take in Womak Staithe, its a short walk up the lane to Ludham village. Regards Alan
  15. I thought that a garage was just for storing bits of wood Regards Alan

  19. I have driven automatics since 1996, I would never go back to a manual now. My worse case manual issue was on a company escort van, I had just got onto the M1 going to Leeds when the gear stick popped out of the gearbox and was just flopping around in the rubber gaiter, getting to the end of the motorway in Leeds was a trial, I managed to push back in the gear-stick and hold it in third gear until I got to the companies own garage. Regards Alan
