JohnK Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Any ideas what the above name could mean? It’s what my day boat is called and I have absolutely no idea what it means. Neither does Google. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
JennyMorgan Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Anagram? Composition of owner's girlfriend's names? Ignorant previous owner that couldn't spell? 1 Quote
NorfolkNog Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 I wondered if it could be an acronym but its a bit too long. Has a sort of French feel about it - I wonder if Vaughan might have any ideas? Quote
Guest Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Is it originally from Sunberry on Thames? Suneberie was it's former name Quote
JohnK Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Don’t think there’s a link to Sunbury, the previous owner lives in Cheshire but you never know. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
NorfolkNog Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 JF is on the nail there I think. Mrs Nog has just Googled it and got the same result. According to Craig's database its had that name since 1992/3 so possibly more than one previous owner?? Quote
diastar Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 Sunbury the town is mentioned in the Sunbury Charter in AD 962 and in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Suneberie. 1 Quote
JohnK Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 Ok. I’ll take it thank you. I was hoping for something a lot more exciting than that My only superstition is renaming boats so I’m stuck with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
TheQ Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 I'm lucky I'm not superstitious because there was no way I was keeping the name of Paloma Blanca on our boat!! 1 Quote
High6 Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 So hard to choose a new name. The boat we are hoping to get next week has a girl's name, but no-one we know so we have to change it. Thinking of "Init", as in: "Why?" " 'Cause it's in it, innit?" What d'you reckon? Quote
marshman Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Not hard to chose a sensible name and to be honest, I would never choose a name which appears too clever by half - its a boat and should bear its name proudly!! Quote
JennyMorgan Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 One easy way out is to take SWMBO's first name, pre-fix it with Lady and it'll be brownie points all round, never fails! 3 Quote

JohnK Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 I like some of the ideas for new names. But it still ain’t happening .... can’t change the name of a boat I do realise how ridiculous that is!!!How about options for what SUNEBERIE could stand for?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Meantime Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Boats often have a location underneath the name, either where the boat is berthed, or where the owners are from. Chose a new name and put it above SUNEBERIE and just pretend that is where you or the previous owners lived. 2 Quote
vanessan Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 Is your boat of Swedish origin? If so, maybe it was named in Swedish and the name has never been changed. Quote
