We ended up with heavy rain in the early hours last night and it is still wet this morning.

Does that cowl on the back of Water Rail in the first picture belong to her or you as we are moored in the same mooring tonight and the cowl is on the mooring post or it was until I took it off to tie our rope on it.

Guess Grendel found that cowl in the river and fished it out (think I recall him mentioning finding it during a swim). There’s nowhere it would fit on Water Rail.

Exactly so Helen, while i was taking a dip, my foot encountered a strange manufactured object so I hooked it out, leaving it by the bank in case the owner spotted it and retrieved it.

Thats OK I'll leave it back on the post when we depart and one day the rightful owner may return.

Should you not have 'placed it in the shop window, in case the person who had lost it happened to be passing, and called in to collect it' ?

the bank seemed the better option as banks have better security than shop windows.
