Wussername
Why do boats turn green. How do you prevent them turning green? How do you clean them? Do you need to clean them? Do wooden boats turn green? Why not paint all boats.........green. Why is it that only private boats turn green?

JennyMorgan
Traditionally green is considered an unlucky colour by mariners. Presumably because it is the colour of a sunken boat!
MauriceMynah
There can be a multitude of reasons for boats going green. Nyx for example is moored under a tree, That is enough to get the green going. Boats moored with the riverside facing north will also go green if not looked after. Lack of use is another frequent cause. When Nyx was moored away from the trees, she stayed pretty clean. Frequent use saw to that. Being moored under a willow tree, Nyx would go from clean to green in less than a month. Sometimes I would clean it but often I wouldn't bother and just "take the flak" while using it. 1

ChrisB
If you don't let them go green in the first place, there is not a problem. The same holds true regarding other unpleasant jobs! Ovens spring to mind. friendly reminder Patio Magic and the Jeyes similar product are very strong Marine Pollutants. They should not be used on boats that are afloat. Regulo
I think we should all give a large vote of thanks to MM. At least when we're told "Your boat could do with a clean", we can always reply, "I know where there's one worse".
