Bluebell
There’s been some quite derogatory comments made about boat hooks from time to time on this, and other, forums. I popped over to check on the boat today and my boat hook had a few comments to make. ”Whilst I haven’t ever been used to hook or prod another boat, don’t forget the times I pulled out of the water the chair you use for fishing, the landing net, the old fishing bag and last, but not least the boat bucket”. Fair enough I say, what about others? Happy New Year all…😎 4
Lulu
Happy New Year to you too Mr Boat Hook. May you have many more happy years hooking out things your owner has dropped into the rivers 😊 1
Malanka
We have two boat hooks , one I use as a weed whacker, the other useful one is bungeed to the cabin top grab rails and is about 12 ft long. Nice shot of your boat hook by the way. M
Malanka
Last time used in Ernest was to fish out the wheelhouse roof that made a 5 airborne somersault bid for freedom into the broad on Barton last August. Fish out is a euphemism for grab before it sank actually M

floydraser
I repeat my earlier suggestion: What about a rubber ball on the other end for pushing?
ChrisB
Serious question to those who dislike a boat hook How do you pick up a mooring buoy? I use a boat hook, don't know any other way.
Wussername
Agree with you all. Great. But it is not a fender stick.
WherryNice
Nothing wrong with a boat hook if used in an appropriate manner......
Mouldy
Having just read the other thread regarding damage to a boat moored at Neatishead, I can think of somewhere appropriate to poke the metal end, hook and all, followed by rapid retrieval (several times if necessary)!!
Malanka
Hi Jim, I intend to take life more leisurely in 2022 so hopefully when the lady is returned all upgraded like I hope to see you too. M
TheQ
Never bought a boat hook, picked up several out of the rivers though.. I've had the tell off several tourists for waving boat hooks at sailing boats. One it's downright dangerous Two it can cause serious damage to boat or person. Three, it can get hooked up on our ropes and pull them in.
CeePee1952
Why don't the hire yards have rubber boat hooks on their boats? Surely got to be less damaging than the metal ones? (I hate the things and always leave them secured on the roof of the hire cruiser that we happen to be on). Chris
JanetAnne
A certain, currently nameless, forum member took these comments about unsafe boathooks to heart last year and modified his own hooks blunt end with a rubber cup from a sink plunger. All was well until he demonstrated his new invention on the boat next door whereupon the plunger stuck fast and he was left with just the handle,a red face and his audience in stitches!

That would be me. One end for hooking, one end for fending off I was trying to find a pic of it working but alas there are none available. I did get a certificate for it though. And not one my Mum made for me - a proper one. #proudestmomentofmylife And someone has a video of it being used to hand over a drink in a socially distanced manner.
