  1. From a personal point of view this is almost like doing roadworks in the summer holidays, one does have to ask why is this being undertaken during this period when the southern broads should be at its busiest during the season. Also will this effect the Power Boat Racing on Oulton Broad during this 4 week period? Regards Alan
  2. Good morning Navigation Restriction due to Dredging Operation on Oulton Broad 2019 (at TM51074 92730). Notice is hereby given that dredging operations are programmed to commence from 19 August 2019 until 13 September 2019, during the hours of 0800 hours and 1600 hours daily, excluding weekends. The works may restrict the access passage of vessels, however, the navigation channel will remain open but mariners must exercise great care whilst proceeding past the works. All equipment will be lit and signage will be in place to warn of restrictions and delays. Kind regards. Karen. 3. Too much bleach used when cleaning the canvas Regards Alan
  4. Hi Peter you beat me to it, floating film onto the inside of the glass is probably the cheapest way forward. The film would also add some security if the windows broke, preventing glass flying all over the place. Regards Alan
  5. The sad thing regarding the level crossing at Brundall, is that the cost of the new system would keep the 4 staff that cover the shifts on the crossing could be employed for the next 50 to 100 years at a fraction of the price that the new system will cost when completed. A man on the gate knows that he can let the odd car through before closing the gate, a automatic system just flashes the warning lights and closed the barrier , it does not take into account that a low loader has bottomed out just over the crossing and is blocking the crossing, it does not happen often but it does happen from time to time. There are over 90 trains per day that go through the crossing, we always say on turning into Station Road, will it be open or closed. Regards Alan
  6. Reading between the lines (no pun intended) to me this plan is all about the automatic level crossings and signalling. This year and part of last a great deal of work was done at Brundall. The plan to close the system for a month however is flawed, when ever you suspend a service customers have to find an alternative for the duration, some will not return, this is a pity because the rail system in Norfolk/Suffolk is very good and relatively well priced. This year I think it was £7.60 for two return journeys from Brundall to Norwich. Regards Alan
  7. Personally I have always liked Jeckells. Regards Alan
  8. Maybe we should start calling you Zippy Regards Alan
  9. Both of my sons are in catering so I know very well the hours that they work, shifts are usually the norm. Many years ago I was working sub contract for Batchelors Foods 12 hours shifts 6 to 6 on weekly rotation, we were on standby to cover any breakdowns on the Surprise production line. One morning the relief crew did not turn up, so we worked their 12 hour shift and then our next 12 hour shift and prayed that then would turn up, they did and we went home for a good rest. Hours pass very slowly when you are just waiting for a breakdown to happen, it is far better being busy. Regards Alan
  10. Hello Vanessan, I think it has changed two or three times since I was last in there. Regards Alan
  11. Hi John, Are looking through those rose tinted glasses again Regards Alan
  12. Lets face the weather has been poor again this year, we have had our fair share of rain & storms and you do have to feel for the families that have opted for boating holidays. It may have been the best week weather wise when I was on the boat from 23rd July, even though we had two storms at night over the week on the Tuesday & Thursday Night. We had Breydon Water closed to hire-craft last weekend and there are rumors that this may be the case this coming weekend. Regards Alan
  13. I used to like the Staithe & Willow in Horning, when it was taken over by a couple a few years back, their meals & service were excellent be it lunchtime or for an evening meal. I personally am not overjoyed with the pubs in Horning over the years when we used to moor there. They could have changed however. Regards Alan
  14. Hello Trev, Welcome to the forum. Dependant on where you moor in Brundall have a word with Alex Frazer he services loads of boats around Brundall. Regards Alan
  15. There are no notices as of yet regarding Breydon Water being closed to hire craft, if any come through I will let you know later tonight or in the morning. Regards Alan
  16. Hello Melvyn, Welcome to the NBN forum. Ideally you want to moor against the wind, but you need to take into account the tide. Regards Alan
  17. Hi Neil, A few years ago we were travelling towards Brundal from Beccles The gale was so bad that we were crabbing up the river past Reedham, I decided that we would head into Loddon as a safe haven, the wind made the normal hour journey take almost double that time, needless I was wet through by the time we moored at Loddon, wind and rain was blowing through the unzipped from canopy screen. Regards Alan
  18. Hello Ian, I will miss you, I am not down until the 17th September. Have a great time even on the Northern Rivers. Regards Alan
  19. Hi Howard, all you needed was a knotted handkerchief on your head to be a full Gumby. Regards Alan
  20. Sorry this came in earlier today. Urgent Boating News – Bridges Update Good afternoon Reedham Swing Bridge is not able to open for boat traffic until further notice. Kind regards. 21. Hello John & Neil, I am on the Broads from the 17th September, more than likely I will stay on the southern rivers so may see you around. Regards Alan
  22. Hello John, The running costs spiral when you need new batteries, A friend of mine changed his Lexus before the 3 year warranty ran out because he did not want to get saddled with the £10,000 plus for a set of replacement batteries. Regards Alan
