  1. Hi John, It all down to how many get involved in the debate. Regards Alan
  2. Hello eastleigh33 welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  3. Me and my business partner used to have two cottages that we had time shares in up to the time when the aged owners decided to let the Windermere Marine Village have them back because they feared that they would no longer be able to pay the increasing management fees, we voted against the motion and lost our investment. Regards Alan
  4. During the recent work on the level crossing station car park was closed. the railways must have made arrangements with the pub to allow parking in their car-park, for the duration of this arrangement a generator and lighting rig was used to illuminate the car park for all users. If Broom's are thinking about building houses/flats on the site when the sheds are pulled down, they may be difficult to sell because of the 90 plus trains a day that have to sound their horn for the Brundall Gardens railway crossing, if a when the Brundall crossing is eventually made into an unmanned crossing then the horns would have to be sounded for the Brundall crossing. The costs involved with this plan do not make any sense and will be never be cost effective. Regards Alan
  5. We like other syndicates have breakdown cover with Boulters, this year we have had to also have their dive cover since Maffett's had to stop their dive cover part way through last year. Regards Alan
  6. Hi Cal, Because the pin can come out of the clip, which then renders them useless until the pin is put back in. Not everyone is practical, I did not have an issue, but then I like things to work and will repair almost anything I come across. I agree they are good but if the pin was a tighter fit they would be better. Regards Alan
  7. Hello Cal, We also used to use that type of clip for our fenders but some of my fellow owners could not cope with them so we reverted back to tying off the fenders to the rails. Regards Alan
  8. Hello Matt, Quite right, on Ranworth Breeze our management for 2018 was £650 & £700 for 2019, these higher fees were levied for major upgrades on the boat over the last two seasons. Again the management fees are for two weeks allocations. Regards Alan
  9. Dear all, We have been informed by Network Rail that Somerleyton Swing Bridge is currently not operational until further notice. Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Communications Officer (Digital & PR) 01603 756034 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. Norwich NR1 1RY 01603 610734
  10. Hi Q, we were always taught the same by our woodwork teacher, a great guy taught me a lot. I often wondered what happened to the 6 to 8 Stanley number 1 planes that used to be in the tool store, these were good for the younger children being so small, I do have one and these days they are very expensive, but in all honesty I prefer to use a number 2 for the fine work. Regards Alan
  11. I believe in the correct tool for the job, sometimes a cheaper tool will do, I still have the same basis hand tools I have had in my tool bag/case that I had over 30 years ago. With regards to woodwork tools however I do spend a lot of time inspecting and getting the feel of a tool before purchasing it especially on hand planes. Regards Alan
  12. Kwik Fit, another of the companies that I have been tempted to take the tools out of their hands for misuse. Most people only go there once. It is better to find a good tyre fitter and only go into these types of companies if you are stuck.
  13. Hello Raj, Welcome to the forum. I always use the Broads Authorities tide tables because they give me estimated height of low water and the tide variation of the various locations on the Southern & Northern Broads. Because we have 9 foot 8 inch airdraft we have to plan if passage through Yarmouth is possible during our allocations. Regards Alan
  14. If you have never used a dint guy (assuming the paintwork is unbroken) then the results are amazing, they use mirror pillars to see the dints and use tools inside the panels and heat up the panel get the dent out. I have seen it done on friends and my son's car. Regards Alan
  15. Hi Grendel, Most accountants usually say there is not much difference in purchase or leasing. I however have also been concerned re the mileage each year and the penalties for the condition of the car at the end of the lease. I have always opted for ownership and at times have kept my cars longer than I should have done, also I am getting a bit old in the tooth for lying under cars these days. I do like to keep my hand in however so I might still do a few jobs. Regards Alan
  16. Hi Robin, Out of the Marina up Station Road, turn right and left at the mini roundabout this is a better route to Blowfield, I can be in Wroxham in about 20 minutes. Regards Alan
  17. Before demolition, I personally would look into jacking the whole cottage up as an option and then sinking new piles to support the structure.
  18. My worse car was a Vauxhall estate, engine wise it was OK but the wings and tailgate rotted in the middle of the panels when it was about a year old. Best saloons after that were a 2.8 Ford Scorpio and a Mazda Xedos 9 before I knew better (no need for having to take the children around, they had cars of their own) and bought my first Saab 93 convertible, bought the newer style after about 5 or 6 years but loved both cars. Due to memories and the high mileage I replaced the Saab with a Audi S3 which is great other than the satnav. Regards Alan
  19. Hello Paul welcome to the NBN forum. Regards Alan
  20. Wait until you retire Griff then you will have little or no time at all Regards Alan
  21. Welcome to the NBN forum, please tell us a little about yourself and your times on the Norfolk Broads. Regards Alan
  22. Hi Neil, I have never owned a bike, but it was always in the family blood, my younger brother by 4 years has only just given up and my Uncle in New Zealand was searching for spare parts for his Honda Goldwing on the last two occasions when he last came to the UK, now in his late 80's he has given up riding and is trying his hand at car restorations. My guess is that Griff is drooling at that picture. Regards Alan
  23. If that had happened to me Monica I would have given them any number. Regards Alan
  24. The fist people to take a narrow boat to France was Terry & Monica Darlington It was a good read. Here is a link:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/content/articles/2005/07/21/narrowboat_darlingtons_channel_feature.shtml Regards Alan
  25. I can concur that Loch Ness is almost prehistoric and at times can be like a mill pond but at other times can be rough, it is a place that could be from any time and only the presence of somewhat very little boats is the only sign of modern life. Regards Alan
