  1. Hi Jay, To be honest I would have not set off for the Northern Rivers so late in the week with the impending 3 Rivers Race starting on Saturday. The owner aboard Ranworth Breeze this week was delayed from setting off from Brundall and then ended up in Loddon due to the Reedham Bridge being out of order, I suggested that he should stay down south because of the race even though the tides through Yarmouth would have been perfect for us all week. Enjoy you time aboard Moonlight Shadow. Regards Alan
  2. Back in the day we always had to stop for a comfort break but more importantly for the engine to cool down. I can remember seeing loads od cars with their bonnets up and the radiators steaming. These days we think nothing of traveling long distances because of the reliability of today's cars. sadly we all know the problems of stiff backs from sitting hours on end at the wheel. Regards Alan
  3. Reedham Bridge now operational! Dear all, We have just had notification through from Network Rail that Reedham Swing Bridge is once again operational. Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Digital Communications Officer 01603 756034
  4. Dear all, We have been informed this morning by Network Rail that Reedham Swing Bridge is currently not operational due to a mechanical fault. Engineers are aware and will be visiting the site as soon as possible to rectify the issue. We will provide you with any further updates when we have them. Kind regards, Tom Tom Waterfall Digital Communications Officer 01603 756034 Broads Authority, Yare House, 62-64 Thorpe Road. Norwich NR1 1RY 01603 610734
  5. Just looked at the Cathedral Peregrine webcam. The three chicks are growing fast and their white fluffy feathers are being replaced by their natural darker feathers at the moment they are active and no doubt awaiting their feed. Regards Alan
  6. My first car, well a Transit van (1970) called Henry it had a hard previous life and rust had set in in various areas, my guess it had been washed out in the back on a regular basis. we decked it out with a wooden floor and wooden rails on the sides to strap down our disco gear (back in the day everything was very large just like the radios of the day) sadly I was the driver and the only sober member of the group. I spent hours under the van usually in wet winter weather doing the various repairs, rebuilding the engine after re-boring etc. The engine blew twice on the M1 coming North up the hill towards Barlbrough and then having to limp home on three cylinders with a van full of gear and the eight of us. Regards Alan
  7. It was taken in March 2004 during our season start week. Regards Alan
  8. Hello GrahamP and FendlandSkies welcome to the forum. Regards Alan
  9. You could set up a syndicate of 12 owners each paying £4000.00 which would get 4 weeks allocation and at £4000 per share there would be enough money in the pot to deal with all the running costs for the first year. If anyone wants advice on how syndicates work do not hesitate to contact me or look for advice on www.boatshare.co.uk Regards Alan
  10. Hello Frank, To be honest I would stay on the Southern Broads, there is loads to do and plenty of locations to moor overnight with decent pubs all offering good meals. Regards Alan
  11. Back in the day when the lads were small we all went to work on the Tapton Lock on the Chesterfield Canal. We emptied the lock that was half full of mud and grime using a barrow hoist, the water seepage was pumped out until we had an empty lock. We had to replace some bricks but the lock needed pointing we were only allowed to use lime mortar and pointing irons many we made ourselves out of mild steel to a template. It was a great day when the top and bottom gates arrived and were fitted by the Chesterfield Canal Society volunteers, I have a picture somewhere of me and a another volunteer sat on top of the bottom gates planing the gates to fit. After Tappon we moved onto two other locks paving the way of opening the stretch of canal from Chesterfield to Staveley. I can well understand the situation and at times the frustration that the North Walshaw/Dilham Canal Society must be feeling. Regards Alan
  12. I was also moored in the same spot, my mate Chris took one of his guitars for his stay with us. Regards Alan
  13. Also check if the boat is registered under the Small Ships Registry under part 1 or part 3, if this is the case you will need to amend the name or even have to re-register under your name/names. Regards Alan
  14. Hello Simon, I have already welcomed you on one of your posted topics. Regards Alan
  15. Hello Simon, Welcome to the forum. Like Broad Ambition, on Ranworth Breeze we also have a spare mud weight that we tie to one of the aft rails on the bathing platform, as Griff says you have to watch for drag but if you overnight on a Broad it beats going around in circles. Regards Alan
  16. Hi John, Lets call it a difference of opinion then, I have however been involved in the service industry working hand in hand with the brewing industry for well over 40 years, in my location there are at least 6 pubs that have been pulled down or tuned into shops or petrol stations, one of the later used to do over 20 barrels a week and was a vibrant if somewhat volatile pub. Within two miles of where I live there is at least ten affiliated clubs that have shut down. The only upturn I see in our location is even in small pubs is an increase in revenue due to having live bands. You may not like it but Wetherspoons seem to have the right model, they are always full, the beer is well kept and there is always offers on food and drink. Regards Alan
  17. These days a pub that only sells beer and not food, is doomed to failure. The food has to be good, it can be basic as long as it is what the customers want with options for other tastes. Regards Alan
  18. All of the above looks good but the sugar content would not be good for me. Regards Alan
  19. Wishing you all a good weekend at the Meet. Regards Alan
  20. We went in during our season start allocation (beginning of March) after mooring at Commissioners Cut and walking up to Thorpe. We had a couple of beers, but there was no chance of any food, the bar was being served by the cleaner, we left after a couple of regulars propped up the bar and went to get some food. Regards Alan
  21. I have just looked at the Norwich Cathedral Peregrine webcam, the additional camera that shows the the nesting box from above puts a new view on the development of the three chicks. Regards Alan
  22. Hello Paul, Have a look in the Handy Information tab, we have a distance chart and various other files. Regards Alan
  23. Hi Poppy, I doubt you will get many suggestions of where to display it, but plenty of suggestions of where to stick it Regards Alan
  24. Hi Paul, I send and receive various parcel at work, we never opt for any sales using Hernes, we pick another carrier. Regards Alan
  25. Yesterday was Tan's inquest so not a great for us, but we do have some sort of closure. Regards Alan
