Reserving A Mooring!

Wow all the way from the swan that's some cruise  , no its not  OK to reserve a mooring in that way how would they like if it were done to them , my guess they would be up in arms , you acted perfectly correctly as far as I'm concerned its first come first served and the soon people get that the better , not surprisingly its the same place as last reported for the same thing could even be the same person I guess and I wouldn't be surprised to learn this is happening quite often there , had she been insistent with me I'd have referred her to BA and even called them for clarity if she continued at which point she'd most likely walk away .

Well done for standing you ground on this your boat was there first therefore you have right to moor ,

There's way to much of the me me me attitude of late iv even had boats this summer cruising up and down at whitlingham and church fen ( brundall ) in an attempt to intimidate someone to move for them in much the same way as happens at ranworth .

There's one element of boaters that moor for 2 days at bramerton that space boats out so others can't moor then as soon as their friends appear they all move up and make space for them , the last time it happened to me and I got no response when asking them to move up I moored stern on between them only to be told I couldn't do that , they soon moved when I stated I would ring BA and explain the situation etc .

OK rant over but things like this hack me off .

I was talking to an old boatyard proprietor yesterday and, apart from the Authority, we had a general natter about changes on the Broads. His greatest regret was the decline in common courtesy and the rise in selfishness. Was a time when we were all in it together, not now. Got to say that I agree with him.

Much to the dismay of my family, a few times when people are having what I think is an unjustified rant at me, or just being plain rude, I simply pull a long face, mouth open , tongue out and make a long aaaoooowwwwuuuuuugggghhhh

kind of noise. Very childish but hugely effective. It stops folk in their tracks, instantly, end of conflict.

I keep it for especially rude people, which thankfully there isn't that many in big picture of things.

With regard to lip reading I had a surreal conversation with my mum in one of her (5 ) recent visits to Broomfield hospital. The hospital had lost and or broken both of her privately owned hearing aids. So we sat there having a perfectly silent conversation to the huge amusment of the other folks in the ward and the medical staff. But you can hear they said to me. Yes I know I said but I also lip read as my mum has been deaf as a post since I was a small child. Was quite amusing.

I dont think I can lip read, but I hear a lot better if someone is talking to me and I can see their face, I do however have tinnetus, which gives me great grief in noisy places as I cant distinguish from close quiet sounds and far loud ones.

Like all male members of my family, I have a hearing aid. I don't wear it. I discovered that when I do wear it Ellie talks about handbags, perfume, what chores she needs me to do and the weekly shop. If I take it out she seems to be talking about football, boats, woodwork and fishing. So in the drawer, it stays!

I rather think the problem may be the overstayers at Whitlingham, Brundall Church Fen and Bramerton. The BA seem to ignore what goes on in these areas and turn a blind eye to boats moored for a few days at a time. You're absolutely right though, it's certainly a me, me, me attitude.

I believe most of us wish only to stay overnight and move onto another location. 

Last week at Bramerton we only stopped one night and left the next morning to arrive back at the marina. We did stop at Beccles for two nights because of the bad weather, if it had been good weather we would have stopped elsewhere.

We have never managed to stop at Whitlingham due to it always being full.

BA certainly do not turn a blind eye they patrol that stretch very regularly , church fen is a little different as in half is parish Mooring's and half BA and the same applies as Rockland if you pay a nominal sum to the parish then you can stay longer than 24 hrs , the culprits are deffinatly not the usual suspect's iv seen some very big expensive boats especially at whitlingham for 3-4 days at a time .

Oh dear, now you've made that public knowledge it will probably be even more difficult to stop at Church Fen and Rockland Staithe! It does seem to me that there have been more large visiting craft this year than usual, maybe some of them think that the bye-laws don't apply to them.  Mind you, there are plenty of regular boaters that think that too  aren't there?!

I thought it was common knowledge to be honest iv know about Rockland for yrs and used it once , church fen never used it n never had too , I'm not too sure exactly who you mean by regular boater's but all boater's can use there vessels when ever they wish there's nothing to stop them , however there is an element that think by laws don't apply to them but since I live out on the river and see far more than BA patrols do and indeed most forum members I recon that its not always down to one sector in fact I know it isn't by laws apply to much more than mooring and if abused can be just as selfish as overstaying .

The thing is with both Rockland and church fen is knowing where to go to pay , I happen to know that and its easily found out but many won't bother , the thing is not to be selfish and folk that intimidate others to move when they haven't a clue as to how long they have been there is just as selfish as overstaying .
