Freezing Weather

Wondered if anyone had spotted any ice on the rivers or in the marinas yet?

was well surprised to get to my local lakes this morning to see 90% of them iced over. Good job I had my Eskimo ice drill handy.

What there was cleared overnight Monday or mostly - Hickling was virtually free of ice yesterday.

Not sure we are actually going to get the penetrating easterly (yet?) - the weather systems most likely to be from N and NW which is not quite so bad!!

Lime Kiln dyke from the Nancy Oldfield base to Gay's Staithe amd beyond has approx. 3/4 " of ice, no activities today . I believe Barton is similarly affected.

Overnight it’s forecast to swing SW, but still with some pretty chilly temps. 

Lets see what that freezes over.

Horning Marina (Richardsons) was frozen over Sunday and Monday, although a navagble channel was cut by an incoming boat. Malthouse Broad was frozen, except again for a navigable channel. Tuesday after the rain it was nearly all gone but with the forcast last night I got back to Boulters for fuel and pumpout then the marina and called it a very short break. A gent at Ranworth said he had heard two boats had got stck on Barton Broad but can not substantiate.

By all accounts there is ice in certain area's on the Tingdene Marina this morning at Brundall.

Monday afternoon half of Oulton Broad was frozen over, couldn't risk breaking it up to get to the yacht station so had to go back to WRC for the night. that was frozen over in the basin too.

Nothing today between Rockland Staithe and Norwich. Well other than the treacherous boat and deck

Can confirm the puddles on the footpath were ice this morning around 12am

Sutton Staithe and the Boatyard marina were frozen over when I went Sunday, I'd guess they still are.

Richardsons at Horning had very little ice when I was there yesterday, it was nice in the sun but cold, was glad to back in car after doing some jobs on the boat.

Had to prise the tray out of the freezer before topping up on vodka!

At Ranworth today there were a few ducks walking around close to the quay but I would think that 70 % was icefree and melting further.

We travelled from southern broads to northern on Saturday 19th and back to the south yesterday. It was very cold at times but stunningly beautiful. Down the Waveney and across Breydon with the canopy down in brilliant sunshine on Saturday, ditto up the Bure on Sunday. Malthouse Broad was very icy - we saw a boat picking its way through the ice but decided against trying our wooden hull against it. Salhouse mostly frozen. Most but not all dykes had ice, floating ice in Woxham. Monday was the worst day for ice, by the time we made our way south on Tuesday a lot, but by no means all, had cleared. Overall a magical few days.

Did well over 30 miles yesterday and the only boats we saw moving were a couple of BA workboats and, believe it or not, a BA ranger!

We had a BA ranger come up Acle Marina Dyke last Monday afternoon, probably checking those tolls

I see more ranger activity in winter than summer! Followed one last Friday (18th) down the bure from Horning to Ranworth, where we parted company.

Bloody freezing down here in East Dorset yesterday and before, but up  to 13c today. As the song says, "What a difference a day makes".
