Moorings Near To Railway Stations

Hi all,

I am looking for advice on hire boat moorings on the southern rivers that are close to railway stations. We are hiring soon and hoping to get “down south” but my son will be doing his Duke of Edinburgh expedition so needs to join us by train part way through the week.

Brundall would be our first choice, but where can I moor overnight?

Cantley and Reedham would be the obvious alternatives, but have I missed anywhere?

thanks

David

The White Heron (the Yare PH that was) are offering moorings to customers. If that works they’re pretty close to the station…😎

Church Fen at Brundall although it can get muddy on the path up to Brundall. What dates are you looking at.

Next week, so tides aren't great for getting through GY and we would like to visit Norwich, which is why Brundall is favourite. Is Brooms the only yard now that will offer moorings for hire boats?

Why not look at buses as well. They go out of Norwich in all directions. I caught one to beccles, I’m sure they’d go to places like Loddon, Rockland and Cantley.

Beeney Arms - on my walk over Halvergate marshes last month, on two consecutive days I saw trains stop there. And an easy walk down to the moorings across one field.

Brooms should have a space available.  They might be a bit reluctant if it's one of their busy days (Friday, Saturday) but it may be worth a phone call.  Their moorings are very close to the station.

What about Norwich yacht station?  It is only a few minutes from there to the main station.  You could move to somewhere like Comissioners Cut or Bramerton if you don't want to spend the night in Norwich.

I wondered if anyone was going to mention Norwich as that avoids having to get another train.

Cantley only has one bus out per day which goes back only on request - Sunday is the best day for train to Berney Arms

Norwich would be ideal, but I don't think we could get there in time. We pick the boat up on Saturday from Potter Heigham and plan to go through Yarmouth on Sunday at low water which is 14.44, we need to pick our son up on Sunday evening, so I am thinking that we would be getting to Brundall at about 19:00, which is a bit later than I would ideally like…

Busses to Rockland might be an option. Thanks for that suggestion.

I have not looked at the tides but would thought if you are leaving Potter, Wroxham would be the best place for trains and head south from there.

Yes, Wroxham is best for the trains, but if we do that, I think we would have to change the plans for going south, if we were in Wroxham on Sunday evening, we could go through Yarmouth on the Monday tide (low water GY 15:27) it would be a really long day, so Tuesday would be better, which is fine, but getting back north later in the week gets harder because low water GY is 17:13 on Thursday, so slack water is an hour later etc.
