Wussername
Where is the Gateway to The Broads? I had a look on Google..........as you do. Wroxham seemed very popular. Coltishall was mentioned. Acle was also in the running. Even the gravel pits at Whitlingham/Trowse made an attempt for fame. If you know where it is, please tell me. Old Wussername. Mowjo
Lowestoft is the gateway to the Southern Broads, so Yarmouth must be the gateway to the Northern Broads,
ExMemberBobdog
It's just across the road from the National Trust tea shop at Horsey Mill.

JennyMorgan
Everything flows briskly out through Yarmouth, does that make it the er-hem unmentionable of the Broads?Oulton Broad was, for many years, quoted as being 'where Broadland meets the sea', I liked that.Perhaps Yarmouth is actually the Gateway to the Broads, so don't forget the Countryside Code, 'close the gate as you leave'.Do I know the definitive answer? No!If it's Whitlingham's redundant aggregate pits then I hope folk don't leave too late, Parking Eye will undoubtedly grab them.

BroadScot
For me its the first sign on the A47 by-pass! Think before the viaduct. That's when I know I am nearlly there! Iain.

ranworthbreeze
Easy question to answer. The gateway to the Broads is where ever your boat is moored or where you collect your hire boat from. It doesn't matter if its a yacht, cruiser, day boat, rowing boat, kayak or canoe, its being on or by the water that counts. BroadScot
I said earlier the A47 By-pass.....but.....before the new road, it was the sign as you neared Norwich with the sign....A Fine City. Iain

Paul
Before we can establish where the gateway to the Broads is, can we establish where "The Broads" are. As you travel east along the A47 signs direct you towards Acle and over the bridge then fizzle out. For me "the gateway" has always been Loddon, even before we started hiring from Pacific Cruisers back in the early 80's.
BroadScot
When all said and done. There are many of them. Wroxham is said to be the Capital of the Broads, and where I hired my first cruiser, so that could be the Gateway to many, as you arrive at Wroxham/Hoveton. Iain. LizG
According to Google, the first hits imply it is Wroxham/Hoveton followed by Coltishall and Oulton Broad. However the majority of the websites implying it is Wroxham/Hoveton are one of the same company!

JennyMorgan
Surely a 'gateway' would be on the boundary? Geographically Oulton Broad & Gt Yarmouth are the liquid entrances to the Broads.

I thought they were the liquid exits. The rivers are the entrances, surely!
