  1. That sofa sounds like the Tardis!
  2. Me too !.... although we've not had a chance to stash anything there yet !!
  3. We had a skippers manual on a Herbert Woods boat this summer, had a week from 1st August.
  4. Having worked in the hire boat industry for 10 years I agree with most of what you and Vaughan have said, I had to draw the line at this part though ! https://youtu.be/QrrIRr9arkM
  5. Here you go for anyone interested - https://www.rightmove.co.uk/commercial-property-for-sale/property-97609871.html
  6. If you move back a little bit we can keep an eye on her !
  7. On modern Volvo Penta engines over 110hp there is speed limit software available, but it needs to be activated and set by a Vodia tool which is only available to dealers and some VP staff. They wouldn’t do it for nothing!! Not that it will ever happen anyway!
  8. This is probably the oldest Broads boat available for hire without a crew or skipper - https://www.marthamboats.com/hire/yachts/35-zoe Not sure if any of the wherries are older?
  9. I'm a fairly good swimmer, my wife says like a whale ! I have only fallen in once and while wearing shorts, overalls and trainers. This was the Thames in summer when I was a lot thinner and healthier and I struggled to reach the bank. If I couldn't swim or was a poor swimmer I'd have been in trouble as I had no life jacket on.
  10. Does the green have additional non slip properties? My Grandad was in the Navy between 1917 and 1930 and again 1939 to 1945. Couldn't swim a stroke and he was lucky his destroyer managed to beach itself off Dunkirk after being bombed rather than sinking !!!
  11. Where possible we'd move the morse lever so it hit the dashboard hence limiting forward speed but left reverse with a little more power. Just hope the hirer didn't have a little knowledge and a set of allen keys or unscrew the knob! I've also seen brackets mounted on the side mounted controls for similar effect.
  12. I’m currently sat on a boat awaiting sea trials to start, fitted with 4 x 13 litre diesels each consuming 129 litres per hour each !! Anyway, just need a few more cars fitted with Euro 6 engines, leave them running!! https://www.globalfleet.com/en/safety-environment/europe/features/newest-diesel-engines-clean-air?a=SBL09&t[0]=Diesel&t[1]=Diesel ban&t[2]=Euro 6d TEMP&t[3]=particulate matter&t[4]=Air pollution&curl=1
  13. Torqueedo are using the same batteries that are used in some BMW's, Penta are utilizing truck and bus technology although sea water and 600V makes an interesting combination. They are also using 300Kw fast chargers. I believe most of the Broads boats are using old 48V lead-acid systems that have been around for decades.
  14. I've not stayed for several years now but take a look at the hotel Wroxham, great location to get a boaty start to the holiday. Especially if you have a balcony overlooking the river.
  15. I don't think full electric is viable for marine use at present or in the near future beyond a few niche and limited areas. We have this being trialed but if it goes into production it will be very small scale, also note the 2 x 7.2Kw gensets. !https://www.volvopenta.com/marineleisure/en-en/news/2019/sep/volvo-penta-and-fountaine-pajot-reveal-electric-sailing-catamara.html I can also say it will be a tad expensive ! I could be wrong but I cannot think of any modern diesel car engine that is used in Broads cruisers power range, they are derived from small plant use, diggers, tractors etc. While electric power is also being looked at here it lags behind highway use so the diesel engine will be around for a while yet. What will change are the exhaust emissions, they are already becoming very strict for commercial use with IMO tier 3 on commercial engines over 130Kw requiring SCR's exhaust systems. From Jan 2021 these will also apply to leisure vessels over 24M and it probably won't take long before they start looking at smaller engines.
  16. Spot on, but as of a couple of years ago the energy companies could not supply power to run a few fast chargers for an electric bus trial in several uk cities. The answer was a great big diesel genset at each charging station !! Bit of a shame as I believe the actual bus was a big success, just let down by infrastructure which has a long, long way to go.
  17. 2019 was actually slightly larger than 2018, this year was only a mini show about a quarter of the size. They are limited with the amount of land available and won't have any more until the site is redeveloped. This came to a standstill before Coronavirus so not sure what they are planning longer term. Not surprised it was cancelled after the recent developments, we were not exhibiting this year although I was going to pop down for a couple of days.
  18. Is the water a bit high stopping most getting under the bridge?
  19. Literally ! - https://www.dockmatedirect.com/
  20. We looked at Lightning as well, I believe there were 4 people after that share.
  21. It’s a hard life! Which syndicate boat have you bought into? We’ve just purchased a share in Moonlight Shadow.
  22. What boat is it? A lot of Bounty’s and some Alphacraft had weed hatches, don’t think I’ve seen one on an Aquafibre. it would be in front of the rudder stock and hopefully the top will be a couple of inches above the waterline!
  23. We came through Wroxham bridge around 9 on Friday morning, that was entertaining! At least they should all be heading back now.
