If that's the case I would be looking at the installation and how the boat is operated rather than the engine itself. The majority of modern engines are reliable, but not all are installed correctly or matched to the job they are being asked to do.

The small ones are Kubota but the larger ones are Toyota or John Deere based. If it's something broken on the marinised side they could have availability problems.

We are staying in Drakes Dyke which is the 3rd house on the left as you enter Wroxham. We have a day boat as well and cannot believe our luck with the weather! Quite entertaining watching the day boat rush hours! Including the Richos day boat at 9pm last night navigating by a mobile phone torch and sounding well lubricated. Feel sorry for any Richos staff having to stay behind to deal with them!

In Warwickshire they break up the 12th and go back the 29th, we often seem to be out of sync with large parts of the UK. As I've 3 children it saved me a fortune on flights a couple of years ago, sadly the holiday companies seem to have woken up to our different dates !

They could turn it into a smart waterway like the M25 and have different limits depending on how bad the traffic is. The gantries would need to be quite high though to allow for sailing vessels.....

I know he was was a pilot and ended up a bigwig but had to Google the rest ! He graduated in 1958 and served in 83, 44 & IX Sqn and became an instructor in 1964 . He sadly passed away yesterday morning, he'd not been well for some time. Yes he did create Poole Powerboats along with John Macklin, borrowed some money and built his first boat in the late 60's. I've met him about 5 or 6 times over 17 years, always a pleasure. Most memorable was at a suppliers award ceremony, my colleague dropped the award plate and quick as a flash Robert grabbed it before it hit the floor and smashed to pieces. To this day we have no idea how he moved so fast !!

D1 / D2 are Shibaru engines built by Perkins. D3 is the 5 cylinder car engine. D4 / D6 are pure marine engines, you won’t find them anywhere except a boat. D5 / D7 / D8 / D9 / D11 / D13 / D16 are all used in construction equipment, trucks, buses etc.

Land based gensets have radiator cooling but the radiators are huge with great big fans on them, not much good on a Broads boat.

Brexit planning maybe causing me issues at work but it won't stop me going on holiday!! We have 1 week booked in a riverside house with a dayboat in April and another week for August in North Norfolk.

We’re open to midday Monday although only 5 of us in the office as rest have booked time off or working from home. I can work from home but as it’s only 20 mins walk and we have a pub lunch planned I think I’ll make the effort!!

Electric lorries will be on the streets from next year, there’s already been a trial with busses which was a sucess. As long as you ignore the diesel gensets powering the chargers as the utility companies were completely useless in providing power. I think providing enough power to re-charge electric vehicles is going to be sticking point.
