  1. That clip is a bit disengenuous as the East West Rail link used to exist and for the most part still does, just a bit missing due to Mr Beeching's and various governments lack of foresight got rid of it. Similarly Most of HS2 uses the route of the Great Central Railway which was completed in 1899 to continental loading gauges in preparation for.... The channel tunnel, and again Mr Beeching and governments closed the liine (most of it this time ) in 1966. The Road from Oxford to The A1 is slower now than it used to be due the poliferation of roundabouts in the Bicester area.. The original plan for Milton Keynes was a city running from London to Birmingham between the M1 and the west coast main line. Like the shrinking of the MK plan, I suspect it's announce something huge then " listen to the people" and build something a lot smaller.... as they intended...
  2. 3 rivers race already? Yes now the 3RR is online, the entry forms and notice of race are already available www.3rr.uk 1st and 2nd June 2019 first start 11:00, you have been warned!!!!!!
  3. A copy of meccano is what I had, I also remember the bleeding fingers.. After that it was on to Airfix, sadly every time we moved, all my models got thrown out.. I just have one left. But built much later by me, a Revell 1/32 Tornado ADV, Much modified: A, Because it's not a very good model of an ADV. B, Because I built it in an on the ground situation, with the nose cone open and I made a radar to fit inside.. The Tornado Has an allocated corner, in the model railway shed, though the railway will be 1/76 scale.. 4mm to the foot, EM Gauge.
  4. That's reasonably quick, my wait for the second test was six months!! (first test failure energency stop in the first rainy day in 6 months, and going for 5th gear... I was in a different car it only had 4 gears...)
  5. I think I saw the life jacket in Horning on Sunday, a Fisherman had stuck a pole in a fence with a life jacket on sticking out into the river, (at the kingline cottages) he was a few feet further up river fishing...
  6. Angling Directs notice says they are looking for new premises in Wroxham / Hoveton, it's not that they are going out of Business..

    My Day

Morning all, My day (yesterday), Yesterday was the 24th Running of the Tri Icicle race by Snowflake Sailing club. Well, first an apology, I normally Put a notice out If I am involved with a big sailing event that will impact on the rivers and I forgot.. I was somewhat busy last week.. I didn't hear any problems with motor cruisers during my race, they all tried their best to get through the chaos as best they could. Even the fishermen seemed cheerful, even those that seems to be having a match down at the abbey end of St Benets straight. Due to the lack of wind we all were towed down to Horning waterworks for the start, All, being 51 boats, an unusually big entry for this race. The course selected this year was to put the bottom mark just short of the straight before Acle Bridges, and the top mark some way above the Dyke to Womack. Our own class race, Third start at 11:20, boats being sent off in up to 10 boat groups at 5 minute intervals. We started... last, not good, but by the time we got to the bottom mark we were 3rd of 7, after turning back up river we slowly caught up and overtook the leading two mostly because they kept sailing in the middle of the river with the tide against them. After Thurne mouth the big sailing cruisers who had started 15 minutes after us were catching rapidly, their longer waterline length and taller masts giving them a great advantage in speed. After rounding the top mark we got swallowed up by the cruisers and two Yeomans passed us. At Ant mouth we got rammed by another competitor that dropped us to 5th while we sorted things out. As we arrived at Horning waterworks we hoped to see a finish but no, it was much further on. Not good with the increasing tide and reducing wind. At the next bend up from the waterworks there was a huge traffic jam, you got a puff of wind sailed forward , lost wind then drifted backwards into the fleet. I think we all had a turn at being first, of those there, eventually after about an hour the race for us was effectively abandoned and we gave or got a tow home. Just 19 of the very fastest /Tallest boats actually finished the race with a Star Class boat winning the main trophy. It was a long day having been setting up the boat at 08:30 we finally got her to bed at 17:00. With next year being the 25th Aniversary of the event, we will hopefully have better wind, more boats, and I'll remember to put out a notice for those who want to avoid us..
  8. Reopening the cremated Swan comes closer, as the swinging swan sign has been restored and put in place. A man has been restoring the plasterwork on the front. Meanwhile next door the battens are being put in place for the thatching.

    My Day

well not really my day, but it made My day. The BBC has allowed Horning sailing club to use a drone video of the club and surroundings. I think it was taken on a Saturday afternoon / evening, August /September.. it's on our front page https://horning-sailing.club/video/horning-sailing-club.mov or https://horning-sailing.club/index.php
  10. Now just for something completely different, Channel 5 20:00 tonight episode two of.. http://www.channel5.com/show/the-great-model-railway-challenge/. ThinK of it as the great bake off crossed with railway modelling. it's strange, it's not a lot to do with real railway modelling, but it's getting good reviews...
  11. There was a plan to have Dr Who appear on Star Trek new generation, but various business deals stopped it..It may yet happen one day in the future or is that the past... the Daleks merge with the Borg now thats an enemy..

  16. A final bump up for our show, on Saturday.
  17. It's a bit over the top to build a complete new dual carriageway, you could keep the old 47 as one side and save a lot of money. But I do like the road junction to cantley. Dodging sugar beet lorries determined to cross the carriageway is dangerous.
  18. TV, radio, on line, I gave up with newspapers as they gave up with reporters. The EDP is now just a collection of articles sent in by someone with something to sell or promote..
  19. I still have a Seagull Sliver Century Plus in the Shed, unfortunately it would sink the 8 ft dinghy, as it's a bit big. however those outboards look very interesting..
  20. Err all that coneing off is for is..... Gardening on the roundabout....
  21. The last of the Cremated Swan scaffolding was being removed as I went past, one man trying not to caber toss a 20ft pole held vertically.. The buildings next door are still covered but their roof is now entirely boarded up.
  22. They put the cones to the side of the road over night, we shall see what happens.. it wouldn't surprise me if it's just a few bits of paint work...
  23. The NDR Wroxham road round about is now a forest of cones. All approach roads are now coned down to single lanes including the roundabout. There is some heavy machinery around up some side lanes. I suspect they are going to redesign the layout..
  24. Next best thing to a picture of a sailing Boat..... Lots of Sailing Boats... Picture courtesy Holly Hancock (Yeoman Nationals 2015 Black Horse Broad)
