  1. Vaughan, not sure how old you are but have you read the book "Herbert Woods A Famous Broadland Pioneer", written by his daughter Jennifer? I got a copy from the boatyard when we were on holiday with them in September and really enjoyed reading it. I can recommend it to anyone who has £3 to spare. Jeff
  2. Those lifebelts have been "out of place" for 4 or 5 days now and obviously no-one has noticed or bothered to do anything about it. That certainly would not have been the case if HW himself were still alive! Jeff
  3. I have read all the comments with great interest and would like to ask one simple question. How many members would enjoy the idea of being able to go back to the 60's and 70's when there always seemed to be plenty of moorings available, there were loads of rubbish bins everywhere and the B A managed to do their job with much less money than they do nowadays? There were probably many more injuns and less chiefs than there are now I cannot remember things like pubs and boatyards closing as often as they seem to nowadays. jeff
  4. I wonder if one of the bigger yards up north might be interested in taking on the yard (without the boats) and then transfer some of their fleet to a southside base? Jeff
  5. If those privateers were to have it all to themselves how many other businesses would go to the wall without the income from the thousands of visitors spending their hard earned cash in the area? The knock-on effect to all those who supply the boatyards , shops , cafes etc would be felt far and wide Jeff
  6. We tried the chippie at end of September ( don't ask me why......it was the wife's idea). I must say that I was surprised , the staff seemed quite jolly and the food was actually edible. It seems that they are trying to do their bit to help prevent the bins from overflowing. Jeff
  7. This was the first boatyard I ever went from back in 1964 on the wooden version of Gala Girl. Everything was so perfect I caught "The Bug" Thanks Summercraft ! Jeff
  8. Many happies from me too, and many more of 'em Jeff
  9. Just read this report taken from the EDP. Can anyone tell me when the fire brigade were issued with a crystal ball? Apparently the fire happened this afternoon but the fire brigade were trying to contact the owner Last Night..............Why? Jeff
  10. First boat I ever took my wife on was Pearl Horizon. That was when she got the bug almost as bad as I have. ! Jeff
  11. Just been getting my webcam fix and noticed that the picture quality is very poor. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just my PC ? Jeff
  12. If money was not a problem I would have a dozen new broads cruisers built, keep one and then "loan" them along with a mooring on a permanent basis to 11 of my NBN friends. Anybody know anyone who is a friend of mine? Jeff
  13. The bit that worries me is the reduction in the amount of public moorings available. Many years ago when Alan Johnson Boats were in existence there was always a mooring available including the area opposite the pub. If there is a reduction of another 20 to 30 mooring spaces what time would I have to get there for an overnight mooring when SWMBO fancies a fish pie at The Bridge? Jeff
  14. I can imagine that Gracie would want a boat with at least two spare cabins, one to port and one to starboard. These would be fitted out with hundreds of small pigeon holes to accommodate left shoes to port and right shoes to starboard. Got to keep the balance right ! lol Jeff
  15. Hope the weather is brilliant for you Mouldy. If you get back up North before Friday keep your eyes peeled for Crusading Light and I promise if you wave we will wave back. Whatever the weather do enjoy. Jeff
  16. Alan, I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that sea-going vessels used to pass there and without the bridge to see they could have been thought of as a hazard. Jeff
  17. Just make sure nobody is watching or you may finish up in bovver. lol Jeff
  18. We have hired both Tobago and San Elena previously. We preferred Tobago because of the centre saloon area being all on one level. We found that trying to watch the telly on San Elena was a bit awkward because of the metal bars at the edge of the raised area. Using the table was also much easier and there is more seating area in the saloon area on Tobago. Hope this is helpful to you and you enjoy whichever one you choose. Jeff
  19. Grace, I cannot believe you missed out fishing ! Jeff
  20. Maybe he is trying to sell this so that he has some spare cash to spend on his fleet of day boats !*! lol
  21. I notice that in the picture the solar powered bin is sighted in the shade !?* Let's hope it proves to be successful and is used to replace all the bins that have recently been removed Jeff
  22. Sounds like basically if you want to stay here " Do as you are told, say what you are told to say and don't disagree with anything" Another way of putting it is " You are not allowed a brain of your own so that you will not be able to have your own opinion of anything" Thought Hitler was dead! Jeff
  23. Just shows the usefulness of webcams. It's a shame there aren't more of them for us to check on behalf of the boatyards Jeff
  24. I would have thought that a yard as big as BB would have a rubbish skip somewhere that could be used. I'm surprised that someone from the yard has not been given the task of removing the trolley load of rubbish. After all it is in a position for all to see and does not give a good impression of the yard's standards. Surely a member of staff or management has noticed it ! Jeff
