  1. NBD probably have less of these parties because their boats cost a lot more "drinking money" Jeff
  2. When did you get Griff to model for you for the helmsman? I can tell it was Griff........just look at the width of those Yorkshire shoulders ! Jeff
  3. Is it possible for one of the mods to retitle this thread? I thought I was about to read something interesting about a river not a train users handbook !!! Jeff
  4. Potter Heigham looking towards the bridge from opposite HW's yard Jeff
  5. Great idea for sitting on the river bank to enjoy the view. I would not be keen on the idea of using them on the boat roof as some do......easy to do some damage which you may not notice but could be expensive in the long run. Jeff
  6. I agree that these sort of dangers should be mentioned during "handover/tuition time" at boatyards but I did not see any mention of the poor lady being on a hire boat. I have mentioned before that years ago a guide book was sent to all hirers when the booking was confirmed . This could be read by all crew members BEFORE the holiday and any questions taken up with the boatyard. I admire the fact that Clive has reintroduced this type of information book but there is quite a lot to read as you start your holiday (the book is on your boat when you arrive) and who is going to read it all on the first day of a holiday? Jeff
  7. Why is it not cheaper to use "self serve" tills than a "manned" one? If I am putting everything through the till myself then I should be paid as a member of staff for the time it takes to process everything through the till and receive a staff discount as well. I have never yet heard one of the "self-serve" tills ask if you need a bag or help with packing your purchases !! Jeff
  8. I noticed the slight clue in the 1st photo as well.... Jeff
  9. I remember that many, many years ago whilst watching the powerboat racing at Oulton Broad a swan was hit by one of the boats during a race. Even though one of the rescue boats was on the scene within seconds nothing could be done for the swan except to pick it (and it's wing ) out of the water. It took a lot longer for the rescue boats to find and pick up all the bits of marine ply that had been scattered everywhere. Jeff
  10. makes me wonder if any of them had an idea of jumping in a car and driving home after their "fun" day out or would that be considered irresponsible ? Jeff
  11. Just trying to work out how a comment about "reserved moorings" outside a pub turns into a BA bashing session. I did not realise that the BA controlled the short term reservation of a mooring so that Fred Bloggs could be sure to get his lunch where he wanted to. Jeff
  12. If I were in the situation of having a pub with moorings I would possibly allow a mooring to be reserved with a specified arrival time limit. If someone wanted to reserve a mooring for say 1:00 pm. then I would allow them up until say 2:00p.m and then "unreserve" the mooring and allow it to be used by someone else. Jeff
  13. My guess is West Somerton if it is on the north side. Jeff
  14. Hi Griff, The "old" licence was for two rods. If you were fishing with 3 rods you should have bought a second licence which would have allowed you to use up to 4 rods if you wanted to. I am guessing that you never got asked to show your licence/s when using 3 rods. Jeff
  15. Good luck with your lessons Robin. I'm pleased to hear that you have not gone down the "intensive route". In my opinion anyone who wants to learn to drive should be able to prove that they have had lessons in every month of the year ( i.e. in all weather conditions) before being allowed to apply for a driving test. Too many people learn in the summer months and have no idea what to do in ice, rain, snow or fog Jeff
  16. I am wondering if it is my computer or has anyone else got the problem of having to restart the webcam every few minutes? I used to be able to watch without any interruption but at the moment the picture freezes after 2 or 3 minutes and I then have to press "start" symbol to carry on......so frustrating! Jeff
  17. Thanks for sharing I notice that you found my favourite mooring spot in HW's yard. Very good spot to watch everyone coming and going plus a nice spot for fishing ( in season of course) Jeff
  18. This one is a bit difficult. I wish you all the success you deserve Rick but i'm hoping that it is not too much so that I can find a mooring when I want one. ! lol Jeff
  19. I've not managed to moor at Irstead for quite a few years now (always full) . When I was last there I cannot remember seeing a Parish Council notice declaring that the staithe is a free mooring for a maximum of 24 hours only. Does anyone know if there is such a notice ? If there isn't one then how is a visitor supposed to know this fact? I accept that there is a BA notice but surely this only applies to the BA section of moorings Jeff
  20. Just wondering if anyone found out where they finished up Jeff
  21. I think it may be prudent to not pass any speculative comments until after the result of the appeal is known. Jeff
  22. Only just caught up with this sad news. Like many others I never had the honour of meeting Jill but felt that I knew her through her wonderful photos which showed her passion for the broads. Thoughts are with the family at this sad time Jeff
  23. Charlie, the fact that you can remember these programmes does not make you an old fa*t , it just means you have a good memory like me !!!! Jeff
  24. Looking at that photo has anyone been in touch with Robin????? I can see at least 3 blue items in the foreground !!!! Jeff
