Hey folks, I need to equip my Hampton Safari with a complete set of fenders(12!) and would like to canvass opinion regarding brands if I may please? If I needed a couple I would just go for Anchor Marine or Polyform ones without thinking as these are the best looking(IMO) and seem to be very well made etc but as I need so many the cost saving of going for something like Majoni or Hurricane is appealing. However if those brands do not last very well then I would rather bite the bullet and buy something decent straight off the bat. So if anyone has any experience of these or any other value brands I would be interested and grateful for your thoughts, thanks.

Was she at Wayford Clive? There was a very similar looking(and very rotten) boat there until a few months ago but I never got around to taking a closer look(sailys aren't really my thing).

Only ever had one short-break's worth of experience with a bow thruster equipped boat (we didn't choose to have it, our original boat broke down and we were 'upgraded' to a 'posh' one) and I have to say that I was impressed with it. It was a very rainy break and it minimised having to be on deck letting ropes go etc, made stern on in crosswinds a cinch and was just generally very handy in tight spots. It and the decent heater were the best part of the 'upgraded' boat tbh. I won't be rushing to fit one on my Safari but they definitly have a place I think.

My true feelings on this aren't really NBN friendly but I hope karma catches up with this breeder in short order and Griff I hope the right pup for you appears even quicker. People who mess others about makes my blood boil!

Does there need to be an addition though? Surely a paddle board is just a manually propelled vessel as per the current byelaws? Or have I missed something? I do think there needs to be an emphasis made somehow that there are actually 'rules of the river' that ALL users should be aware of. Perhaps information boards at prominent places would be a start.

I use Local broker Alan Boswell, they know the broads properly which is why I use them. Current policy is underwritten by Zurich I believe. My renewal is up though so I will try Nav & Gen for a quote to see if theres much price difference.

Personally I don't really mind what sailing boats do as long as they don't get snotty when I have failed to read the skippers mind as to where they would like me to go. Oh but if after buggering about mid river chatting to a mate of theirs they decide to set off across my bow just as I arrive on scene then they can go whistle...... When I was a kid we had a Mirror dinghy in which I would occasionally attempt to do some sailing, I was never actually going anywhere just messing about, usually on a Broad, so I would rarely bother to exercise my 'right' of way over cruisers etc I would just tack short and get on with it.

Wayford Marine are usually pretty good at the email thing if you fancy that neck of the woods again...

Russels at South Walsham is usually fairly easy to get in to fuel up I find. LBBY can either be delightfully easy or a nightmare depending on the prevailing conditions and which direction you are coming from. Boulters can be a bit tricky but they usually nip out to help you in.

Out of interest is there a link to the Broads Byelaws on the forum somewhere ? I had a bit of a scan about and couldn't find one. If there isn't could one be created, perhaps in the Handy Information section?

Thats taken me back Griff, I once spent a working week staying at The Crown in Bawtry for a works course I was attending back in 2002, first one where I had to stay away and has to be said one of the best catered ones I have ever been on; the course itself was in an industrial unit somewhere but we piled into a minibus everyday to be taken for a pub lunch! Excellent! On another note, have you ever seen the Police Camera Action type footage of someone hooning through Bawtry in a stolen car( i think it was stolen anyway), it passes right through where The Crown is. Thinking about it it could have been on Road Wars.

Their fleet has been up for sale since last year, many of the listings on Topsail have now gone but three are left. Not sure if that means they have actually sold the ones that have gone though as I havent been through Reedham since last spring.

I used one of those waterlock mufflers on my Yanmar 1GM10 and it made a vast difference, I will be fitting one to my BMC 1.5 at some point too. I have looked aboard a couple of Sapphires and I have to agree they pack a huge boat into just 32 foot, if bridges weren't such a priority then they would be very much on my 'list'. With regard to the canopy it probably looks odd because the windscreen is the low hire boat type one, the private full Broom spec ones have a higher screen which looks more in proportion with a canopy. That canopy is a lovely snug fit on the aft cabin, must have kept the air draft nice and low. Was there full standing head room in the saloon/cockpit with it raised?

You haven't mentioned a budget yet but however much that turns out to be always allow a decent margin for upgrades/improvements/repairs etc to be carried out pretty much straight away after purchase, there will usually be something that needs doing unless you are lucky enough to be operating at the top end of the market.

I just peeked at NBS and it's the Alpha 42 from Silverline that's 65k, the 29 is a snip at a mere 50k.......
